Have you ever wondered why your boobs are the shape and size that they are? Welcome to the club. We’ve all wondered why we have the boobs we have – whether it’s because we wish they were bigger, smaller or shaped differently.

Every woman’s body is different, hence our varying breast sizes and shapes. However, the same factors determine what kind of breasts we each have. Let’s dive into what determines your breast type.

It’s all about genetics.

Spoiler alert: your genetics largely determine what kind of breasts you’ll have. It all comes down to the density of your breasts, which is determined by your genes. Genetics affect your hormone levels, and those hormone levels decide your breast density. Breast density compares the amount of fat to the amount of tissue in your breasts. The denser your breasts are, the less fatty tissue you have and vice versa. So, thanks to genetics, your boobs’ shape and size were determined before you were born.

Your age plays a part, too.

A woman’s body experiences numerous changes as she ages. One of the greatest changes that comes with aging breasts is weakened ligaments. Cooper’s ligaments are the ligaments that support the majority of breast tissue. As these ligaments weaken with age, your breasts may begin to sag and look different than when you were younger.Women who are past the age of menopause may also have less fatty tissue in their breasts. This transition can cause the breasts to change shapes.

Your weight also affects your boobs.

Your weight contributes to your breast shape and size. Wishing you could gain weight to add volume to your bust? Or, maybe you’d like to lose to lose a few pounds so you can go down a bra size? Not quite! Gaining weight doesn’t always mean your boobs will become fuller, and losing weight doesn’t always mean your boobs will get smaller. How much weight your boobs gain or lose depends on – you guessed it – genetics.

Because every woman’s hormones are different, no two women will have the same results in her breasts from a weight change. Let’s say two 35 year-old women both gain 15 pounds. One of the women may experience a change in breast size and shape, changing her bra size. Yet, the other woman may not see any changes in her breasts. That’s because genetics determine where your body gains or loses weight first. And, how your boobs react to weight fluctuation depends on how much fatty tissue was already in your breasts.

Constantly losing and gaining weight can also change the appearance of your breasts. The collagen and elastin that supports your breast tissue becomes stressed from the weight fluctuations and begins to break down. After drastically losing and gaining weight, your boobs may look saggy.

Many factors affect your breast shape, but the greatest factor is genetics. Your boobs are the way they are simply because you were born that way. But, that doesn’t mean you can’t exercise to preserve your breasts’ youth. It does mean, however, that you should love your boobs as they are. After all, no one has a pair identical to them.

Let me guess – your month-old swimsuit is already losing its like-new look. You’re only wearing the swimsuit in the sun or the water. After all, that’s what swimsuits are for. So, why is your somewhat new swimsuit already looking tired? It’s likely due to common things you’d never guess would damage your swimsuits. You must know what makes swimsuits age if you want to keep swimsuits looking new.

Here are seven things that are damaging your swimsuits:

1.  Drying swimsuits in the dryer.

High-heat is bad for your swimsuits. The heat causes the elastic to warm-up and stretch, then shrink back. Exposing swimsuits to this kind of treatment will wear down the swimsuit and its elastic over time. It’s best to let swimsuits airdry.

2.  Hanging swimsuits to dry.

Not every method of air drying is safe for swimsuits. You don’t want to hang your swimsuits to dry because it can stretch the fabric. The wet fabric is heavier, and gravity pulls the swimsuit down. This can result in a distorted fit even after only hanging the swimsuits to dry.

It’s best to lay swimsuits flat on a surface to air dry. This ensures the swimsuit’s weight is distributed evenly and the fit/material won’t be jeopardized.

3.  Not rinsing swimsuits after each use.

It’s important to rinse swimsuits after each use to rid them of harmful elements. Your swimsuit is exposed to sunscreen, tanning oils, chlorine or sweat with each wear. These products can wear the fabric down if they are not rinsed off.

4.  Exposing swimsuits to hot water.

Hot water is also damaging to swimsuits. The water – like high-heat – can distort the bathing suit’s elastic, fabric and colors overtime. That’s why we suggest never rinsing or washing swimsuits in hot water and reserving one swimsuit for hot tubs. That way, you can let your least favorite swimsuit take the heat (pun intended) in the hot tub, preserving your newest and best suits.

5.  Not laundering swimsuits.

You need to launder swimsuits even though you rinse them after each wear. Rinsing a swimsuit drastically reduces the amount of product left in the fabric. However, it doesn’t completely remove the products. You’ll need to wash it with detergent to remove the excess oils.

It’s best to wash your swimsuits by hand to avoid the harshness of a washing machine. If you must machine wash your suit, put into a lingerie mesh bag before tossing it into the machine.

6.  Sitting on the side of the pool.

One of my favorite summertime pastimes is sitting on the edge of the pool. But, I’ve learned I must sit on a towel on the edge of the pool. Otherwise, the concrete will pull and snag your bathing suit bottoms. Once those bottoms get snagged, they never look the same.

7.  Only having one go-to swimsuit.

Having just one swimsuit may be the culprit of all your swimsuit problems. One damaging element we haven’t mentioned yet is the sun. And, you’re likely always in the sun when wearing your swimsuit. Exposure to sun will fade your swimsuit’s colors overtime, just like the sun does to any piece of fabric.

You’re never giving your swimsuit a break if it’s the only one you wear. This will cause your swimsuit to show early signs of aging – even if you launder it properly and rinse it after each use. You’ll want to have more than one swimsuit in rotation to help preserve the swimsuits’ lifespans.

You spend quite a bit of time finding that perfect swimsuit. And when you do find it, it’s not always inexpensive. Help your favorite swimsuits look better longer by taking a few extra steps to care for them. You’ll be thankful you did when you can still wear the swimsuits two seasons later!

No topics are off the table when girlfriends get together – relationships, work, periods, bras. Girlfriends come together for advice because everyone’s combined experience brings a wealth of knowledge.

It’s essential that as many women as possible are educated about bras because so many of us are wearing the wrong bra size. Let’s dive into some key bra facts your girlfriends need to know, so the next time the topic comes up, you’ll be able to provide helpful advice.

1.  Your bra shouldn’t be uncomfortable.

It seems many women are under the impression that bras just can’t be comfortable. In reality, bras should never be uncomfortable. An uncomfortable bra is a sign that you’re wearing the wrong bra size. When you find the right bra, it will hug you in all the right places and boost your confidence and your mood.

2.  There is such a thing as a good-fitting bra.

Your girlfriend may think there’s no such thing as a good-fitting bra. Lucky for her, you know the truth. There is a bra (and likely, several of them) out there for every shape and style. Whether you have big or small boobs, a good-fitting bra exists. I promise.

3.  Bra fittings are essential.

Bra fittings are the only way to truly know your bra size. During a bra fitting, a bra fitter will take measurements of your bust to determine the best cup and band size. Don’t let your friends skip a bra fitting when bra shopping. It’s a good rule of thumb to get one before every bra shopping trip, or about every six months to a year.

4.  Wearing the right bra size matters.

Wearing the right bra size is the key to feeling confident and comfortable in a bra. All too often, buying new bras falls off the priority list. Instead, you wear a bra that’s slightly too big or too small. What does it really matter? Trust me, it matters! Once you get into a bra that’s truly your size, you’ll love wearing your bras. And, you won’t know how you ever allowed yourself to wear the wrong size.

5.  Your bra size can fluctuate.

There are many factors that can cause your bra size to change – weight gain, weight loss, pregnancy, age, menopause, breastfeeding, etc. So, if your girlfriend mentions that her boobs shrunk or grew, it’s very possible she’s right. The best way to manage fluctuations in bra size is to get a bra fitting when there’s a change.

6.  You’re likely wearing the wrong bra size.

You’ve probably heard that 80 percent of women are walking around in the wrong bra size. (I was one of them.) The thing is, women that are wearing the wrong bra size don’t realize it. Encourage your girlfriends to get a bra fitting so they’ll know if they need new bras.

7.  You shouldn’t dry bras in the dryer.

You’ve probably heard the rumor that you shouldn’t dry bras. It’s no rumor – it’s a fact. The high heat from the dyer can damage a bra’s elastic, fabric and shape. It’s best to let a bra airdry so it preserves its like-new quality.

8.  You should handwash all of your bras.

Bras are delicate items, and you shouldn’t wash bras in the washing machine. Instead, it’s better to handwash them in the sink. If you must use a washing machine, insert the bra into a lingerie mesh bag before washing. This keeps the bra safe from the harsh cycle and prevents it from getting tangled on other items in the wash.

Bras are designed to maximize a woman’s comfort and confidence. However, a poor-fitting or damaged bra can be detrimental to both elements. The next time a girlfriend has a bra question or problem, you’ll be able to point her in the direction. Because comfort and confidence shouldn’t be sacrificed.

Many women don’t realize how much their bra impacts their self-confidence. Instead, the bra gets little thought. It’s not something other people see, and it serves a simple purpose – so why bother? Right? Wrong.

You see your bra and how you look in it, and that can kill or boost your self-confidence. While it’s true that the bra serves a purpose, that purpose isn’t necessarily simple. The bra supports your bust, helps accentuate your figure and makes you feel good. So, don’t be quick to write off the importance of a good bra.

Is your bra killing your confidence without you even knowing? It might be! Here are five signs your bra is killing your self-confidence:

1. It’s old and worn-out.

Contrary to popular belief – looks do matter. A bra that looks old could be killing your confidence. A tired, dingy bra may be able to do part of its job, but not its whole job. Remember, a bra’s job is to make you feel good and look good.

Putting on a worn-out bra every day won’t make you feel good about how you look in it. Old bras can also get stretched out. A bra that’s stretched can’t support or lift your bust the way it did when you bought it.

2. You’re embarrassed when you remove your shirt.

You shouldn’t feel embarrassed or lackluster when you see yourself in your bra. In fact, you should love how your bra looks on you.

I remember a time when I’d hurry to remove my bra so my husband didn’t see me in it. The bra wasn’t flattering on me, and it did nothing for boobs. I then realized that the bra killing my confidence. I got a bra fitting and bought bras that were truly my size. From then on, I was no longer embarrassed by my bra.

3. It’s too big.

A bra that’s too big is disheartening because there’s nothing you can do to fix it. Tightening the band will only create more space in the cups. Adjusting the straps won’t make it fit tighter either. Whether the cups are too big or the straps fall off your shoulders, it’s hard to maximize your confidence wearing a bra that’s too big.

If this sounds like you, I promise the issue is with your bra, not your boobs. Get a bra that truly fits, and you’ll feel great.

4.  It’s too small.

Wearing a bra that’s too small is another confidence killer. The bra can be painful and uncomfortable. Your bra may be too small if the band rides up on your back or the straps dig into your shoulders. Another sign that you need a bigger bra is that your boobs spill out of the cups.

5.  You don’t like how the bra looks under clothes.

Wearing the wrong bra size can result in you disliking how your body looks in clothes. For example, you may have skin bulges on your boobs or back when wearing a bra that’s too small. Or, you may be able to see that the cup of the bra is gapping beneath your clothes if it’s too big.

Remember

Of course, you can wear the right bra size and still be uncomfortable in your clothes. This could be because the style or fit of the bra doesn’t suit your preferences. Whatever the reason, disliking how you look in clothes is a major hit to your confidence. Don’t allow yourself to wear a bra that makes you feel anything less than fabulous.

It’s time for a bra fitting if any of these confidence-killing bra symptoms hit home for you. Your new-found confidence will thank you after just a couple of hours in a bra that truly fits.

There are two groups of women: women wearing the right bra size and women wearing the wrong bra size. Only 20 percent of women are wearing the right bra size. The other 80 percent of women are wearing the wrong bra size and may not even know it. Which category are you in? You’re in the right place if you’re unsure which side of the spectrum you fall into.

Here are four tips to ensure you get into the right bra size and out of the wrong one:

Get a bra fitting now – and about every six months.

Bra fittings are essential to wearing the right bra size. In fact, bra fittings are the only way to accurately determine your bra size. A bra fitter takes a few measurements of your bust to evaluate the right cup and band size for your body.

There are several signs of an ill-fitting bra, like falling straps, a painful fit or gaps in the cups. Get a bra fitting now if you’re unsure if you’re wearing the appropriate bra size. (Then, get a bra fitting every six months to a year after the first one.) You’ll want to buy at least a couple bras for every day wear once you determine your bra size. It’s best to have a couple bras in your rotation so you don’t wear them out quickly.

Toss or donate bras that don’t fit

Don’t let poor fitting bras take up space in your lingerie drawer. This only makes it possible to wear a bra that doesn’t fit, which puts you back in that majority.

Try on yours bras and toss any that don’t fit well. You can donate bras that are gently worn. You can keep favorite bras that are no longer your size, but don’t let them live in your lingerie drawer. For example, you may have good, bigger bras that fit well during pregnancy. You don’t need to toss these, but you do need to store them somewhere else until you can wear them again.

Be mindful of lifestyle changes

Be mindful of lifestyle changes, so you’re aware of when you need to get a new bra fitting. Both minor and major changes can cause your bra size to fluctuate. Things like pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight gain, weight loss or menopause can change your bra size. (Every woman is different, and it may not require a significant weight change to adjust your bra size.) Simply being mindful of any lifestyle changes lets you proactively address a change in bra sizes.

Take inventory of your bras often

A bra that fit well a year ago may no longer fit the same way today. This could be because of lifestyle changes, but it could also be because the bra is aging. Your bra becomes stretched with every wear, and improper laundering or storing of your bras can speed up the aging process. An aging bra can’t do its job well. Therefore, it’s so important to take inventory of your bras often.

About every six months, try on each bra in your collection. Does the bra still feel supportive and shaping? Does it fit the way you want? Does it make you feel comfortable and confident? Consider replacing bras that don’t check off these boxes. Otherwise, you’ll find yourself back in that 80 percent of women wearing the wrong bra size.

Bras are designed to keep you feeling comfortable and confident. However, you must wear the right bra size to reap these benefits. Be mindful of your bra inventory and make bra fittings a priority if you want to continue wearing bras that truly fit.

An ill-fitting swimsuit is a nuisance and a confidence killer. And, that’s the last thing you need when wearing a swimsuit. Alas, finding yourself in a swimsuit that doesn’t fit is all too common. The process of trying on swimsuits can be tiring and disappointing. Before you know it, you’ve bought a swimsuit you don’t love for the sake of buying one.

But, you won’t have to end your swimsuit shopping feeling disappointed again. We’re covering all the signs that a swimsuit isn’t your size.

Here are 10 signs of an ill-fitting swimsuit:

1.  The bottoms are saggy.

Saggy swimsuit bottoms are not the result of a small butt. Instead, saggy bottoms are a sign of a poor-fitting swimsuit. Bottoms aren’t meant to fit loosely. If they’re loose when dry, imagine how loose they’ll become after getting wet. Try a different size or style if swimsuit bottoms are saggy.

2.  The straps fall off your shoulders.

The straps on your swimsuit shouldn’t slip off your shoulders. The straps help hold the swimsuit in place, and they can’t do that if they’re not on your shoulders. Try a smaller size if the straps still fall after tightening them.

3.  The panel between the cups sits on your boobs.

The panel between your swimsuit cups should sit on your chest – not on your boobs. This little panel helps keep the swimsuit in place, as well as helps support your bust. You likely need a bigger size if the panel isn’t resting on your ribcage.

4.  The bottoms squeeze your butt.

Swimsuit bottoms should fit tightly, but they shouldn’t squeeze your butt. You probably need a bigger size or a different fit if your butt is bulging out of the swimsuit. Even cheeky swimsuits shouldn’t overly squeeze your butt.

5.  The band rides up on your back.

Like bras, the swimsuit’s band helps support your bust. It’s a sign that you need a tighter band if it rides up on your back. You can try fastening the swimsuit on a tighter clasp. However, you’ll need a smaller size if tightening the band doesn’t resolve the problem.

6.  The cups squeeze your boobs.

Showing extra boob in your swimsuit is fun. However, the cups shouldn’t be squeezing your boobs so much that they’re popping out. Try going up a size if the cups are squeezing your bust.

7.  The bottoms ride up.

Having swimsuit bottoms ride up and give you a wedgie is more than annoying. It’s a sign of a poor-fitting swimsuit! You likely need a bigger size in the bottoms if you’re experiencing this issue.

8.  You don’t feel confident in it.

Your swimsuit should boost your confidence, not reduce it. If you don’t love the way the swimsuit looks on you or fits you, it’s not the right one.

9.  It doesn’t provide you with enough support.

You may be wearing the wrong size suit if you don’t feel you’re getting enough support. It’s a good idea to wear bra-sized swimwear when you’re looking for a lot of support. You can get a bra fitting, then find the best swimwear size for you.

10.  It’s uncomfortable.

It’s essential for your swimsuit to be comfortable. A swimsuit that’s slightly too big or too small can be annoying. Add on being wet or hot in that uncomfortable swimsuit, and you’re not going to be a happy girl. Decide what’s uncomfortable about the swimsuit, then try on others to find the perfect fit.

Swimsuit shopping is much easier when you can instantly pinpoint what fits and what doesn’t. It may take time to find the perfect swimsuit, but don’t give up. It’s out there!

As much as you love (and paid for) your bras, you do your best to take care of them. Right? You may think you’re caring for your bras, however, many women are damaging their bras without realizing it.

Here are the six most common ways you’re damaging your bras.

1.  You’re drying bras in the dryer.

Drying bras in the dryer is one of the best ways to ruin them. High heat is extremely harmful to your bras. A bra’s elastic becomes stretched and loses its quality after heating up. After a while, this means your bra isn’t going to have its original fit. The underwire could even pop through the fabric due to drying bras in the dryer. So, think again before tossing a bra in the dryer for time’s sake.

2.  You’re washing bras in the washer.

Washing machines aren’t good for your bras either. The cycles can be harsh, and bras easily get tangled and snagged by other items in the wash. It’s best to wash bras by hand in the sink.

3.  You’re washing bras too often.

So, you thought you were doing your due diligence by washing your bra after every wear? Not so much. This is actually aging your bra. You don’t need to wash and dry your bra every time you wear it. It’s okay to wear a bra a few times before washing it if you’re not sweating a lot.

4.  You’re not washing bras enough.

Are you someone who washes bras every couple weeks? Do you remember the last time you washed your bras? Not washing bras enough can also damage them. Sweat, dead skin and body oils rub onto your bra every time you wear it. So, you don’t want to go too long between washes or you risk breaking out your skin. It’s best to wash bras every few wears.

5.  You’re washing bras in hot water.

Hot water should never be used with your bras. Overtime, exposure to hot water will damage the bra’s elastic and material. (Similar to high heat.) Use cold water when soaking and hand-washing your bras in the sink.

6.  You’re tossing your bras into a drawer after wearing them.

Simply tossing a bra into a drawer is asking for it to get hurt. It could get caught between drawers or snagged on another item. Organizing your lingerie is a simple way to keep lingerie looking new. You can hang them on lingerie hangers or organize them in a drawer. It’s best to fasten bras, then place them cup-to-cup when using a drawer.

7.  You’re wearing the same bra every day.

Wearing the same bra every day is an easy way to age it because it’s the only one being used. This means its taking all the oils, sweat, etc. And, it’s getting washed too often than it needs to be. Over-wearing your bra will lead to early signs of wear and tear. You should have at least a few go-to bras in rotation. Using each bra equally ensures no single bra gets worn out too quickly.

Are you guilty of unknowingly damaging your bras? That’s okay! I once was, too. But, you now know the secret to keeping your bras looking beautiful and new. Your boobs, your bras and your wallet will thank you!

No woman is excited to put extra effort into laundering her delicates. Yet, we do it because it preserves the quality of those nice items. And swimsuits are no different. Just like lingerie and other delicates, swimsuits will look new longer if you take time to properly launder them. So, you’ll want to think twice before tossing your swimsuits into the washer or dryer after wearing them.

Here’s the best way to wash and dry your swimsuits:

Hand wash in the sink.

It’s best to hand-wash your swimsuits in the sink instead of using the washing machine. Fill your sink with cold water and a little mild laundry detergent. Let the swimsuit soak in the wash for about 30 minutes.

It’s important to use cold water, not hot water, when washing your swimsuits. Hot water can be damaging to a swimsuit’s materials, causing it to age faster. (That’s also why we recommend reserving one of your older swimsuits for hot tubs.)

If you can’t hand wash, use a mesh lingerie bag in the washer.

Refrain from using the washer and dryer for laundering your swimsuits. If you’ve no option but to use the washer, use a mesh lingerie bag. Machine cycles can be harsh, but the mesh bag keeps the swimsuit contained. The mesh material allows water to flow freely while protecting the suit against other items in the machine. So, you won’t have to worry about straps getting tangled with other items in the wash.

Use a towel to absorb excess water.

Don’t wring out your swimsuit after removing it from the sink. This is can also be harmful to the suit’s fabric and fit. Instead, you’ll want to use a towel to absorb the excess water. Removing excess water before letting the swimsuit dry helps it to dry quicker. You can roll your swimsuit into a towel or lay towels above and beneath your swimsuit. Then, press into the towel so it can absorb that water.

Lay the swimsuit flat to airdry.

Let your swimsuits airdry on a flat surface. This keeps the swimsuit’s weight distributed evenly, so the suit doesn’t become stretched. Just make sure that the surface will not snag the swimsuit. It’s a good idea to use a towel between the surface and the swimsuit.

You’ll never want to hang your swimsuits to dry. Hanging swimsuits to dry requires the swimsuit to hold its own weight. And, it must hold even more weight when it’s wet. This causes the swimsuit to stretch. For example, hanging a bra-like swimsuit by its straps will stretch the straps. You don’t want that because the straps help hold the swimsuit in place! Or, perhaps you’re used to hanging swimsuit bottoms on a pants clothes hanger to dry. This will stretch them, and you’ll get that unflattering saggy bottom look.

You also want to always avoid drying swimsuits in the dryer. The high heat damages the elastic in your swimsuit. The swimsuit will lose its original fit and shape after heating up and cooling down from the dyer.

We recommend always hand-washing your suits to keep them looking new and fitting well. Because a good-fitting swimsuit is the key to feeling confident when wearing it.

There are a lot of questions out there about bras. Do you have to hand-wash bras? Is the dryer bad for bras? Bras are delicate, little garments, so it’s no surprise that there are common questions around them.

If you’ve got bra questions, you’re in the right place! We’re answering the top questions women have about bras.

1.  How often should you wash bras?

Generally, you should wash your bras every three or so wears. However, this will vary from woman to woman. If you sweat a lot or wore the bra for an extended period of time, you may need to wash the bra sooner. Sweat and body oils can be harmful to a bra’s fabric, so it’s essential to not go too long between washes.

2.  Do you really have to hand-wash bras?

Yes, it’s best to hand-wash bras in the sink to protect the delicate materials. If you must wash bras in the washing machine, use a lingerie mesh bag. This little bag protects the lingerie from other garments in the wash. It also keeps the lingerie safe during the machine’s cycle.

3.  Are dryers bad for bras?

Yes, drying your bra in a dryer is damaging for your bra. Your bra’s elastic heats up and expands in the dryer, then shrinks back afterwards. Overtime, this damages the elastic and the bra loses its original fit. There’s no way around this one – you’ll want to let your bras airdry every time.

4.  How do you know if a bra fits?

A bra that truly fits will make you feel comfortable and confident. The straps won’t dig into or slip off your shoulders, and the band won’t ride up on your back. A good-fitting bra will hug your body, but not create boob or skin bulges. There won’t be gaps between your boobs and the cups either.

5.  What’s a bra fitting?

A bra fitting is when a lingerie professional fits you for a bra. She’ll take a few measurements of your bust to determine your best bra size. Bra fittings are typically free, performed in the fitting room and done with or without an appointment.

6.  Is a bra fitting a necessity?

Yes, getting a bra fitting before bra shopping is the best way to find a bra that fits well. Without getting a bra fitting, you risk buying a bra that’s too small or too big. We recommend getting a bra fitting every few months, or before buying new bras.

7.  How many bras do you need?

It’s important to have a few bras in rotation. This allows you to launder them promptly and not over wear them. You’ll want to have about three bras for everyday wear, plus special bras, like a push-up, sports bra, strapless, etc.

8.  Is it normal for bras to be uncomfortable?

No! A bra that fits well should never be uncomfortable. You’re likely wearing the wrong bra size if your bra is causing discomfort.

9.  Do you have to wear a bra?

Absolutely not! Many women wear bras for support, shaping or modesty. But, that doesn’t mean you must wear one. Wear a bra only if you please.

10.  How do you make bras last longer?

You can preserve your bra’s quality and fit by taking care of it. You’ll want to properly launder bras and keep several in rotation. Laundering the bras removes damaging oils, but laundering it properly keeps the material looking new. Having more than one go-to bra lets you give bras a break so you don’t wear them out.

Is it time for a new sports bra? Whether you’re a complete gym bunny or just a casual jogger, having the right bra for you is vital. If you’re a full-busted lady, this is even more important. So, where should you start? Here are some things that the ideal sports bra should definitely have.

1.  It should be comfortable

First things first, you need to make sure that the bra you choose is comfortable. That’s really a baseline requirement here. When you try on the sports bra, you need to take account of how it feels. You will be wearing this particular bra when you’re feeling at your most active. If it’s not cozy and comfortable, you’re going to end up with a real problem.

2.  But also stylish too!

Now, we’re not saying the gym has to be a fashion show… It doesn’t. It’s about fitness. However, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with looking your best while you get your sweat on. Long gone are the days when a sports bra was merely a functional piece of your wardrobe. Oh no, now there are loads of different styles from which to choose and loads of patterns that you may want to rock too. Dare to be creative here!

3.  It should have quality material

It should really go without saying that your bra needs to have the highest quality material. Buying a new sports bra is really a type of investment. You need to make sure that you’re getting what you pay for here. When looking at the various options out there, be certain to touch and feel the material. Doing so will help you figure out whether the fabric is worth it.

4.  But needs to be breathable

Of course, the fabric doesn’t only need to be high-quality. No, it also needs to be breathable too. The last thing you want is to be sweating away and having material that makes the whole thing a load worse. Nightmare. Make sure that the fabric is light enough that it will allow your skin to breath while you’re working out. If you don’t get this simple thing right, you will find that the bra is uncomfortable. It’s that simple.

5.  A sturdy, thick band is a must

Now, let’s take a moment to consider the support you need. If you’ve got larger breasts, this is certain to be one of your biggest considerations. You don’t want to make the mistake of buying a bra that doesn’t keep you firmly in place. One of the ways that you can ensure that this is the case is by looking for a sturdy, thick band. Believe it or not, much of the support comes from this stretch of material.

6.  As well as thick straps too

Of course, you don’t want to overlook the straps! Having some thick material here could make all the difference. It could also help to get a racerback style piece, which will ultimately offer you some more support as well. When you’re checking out the sports bra options out there, take some extra care over this aspect of the piece. You should check out how thick the straps are and how they are attached to the main part of the bra.

7.  The cups should fit well

Before you even think about getting a new sports bra, you absolutely have to make sure that you get measured. That should really go without saying! However, that’s not all you need to keep in mind. When you try on a bra, you should also make sure that the cups fit as well as possible too. Often enough different styles offer a different type of fit. You need things to be snug but not too tight in the cup area.

8.  And your breast tissue shouldn’t spill out

It’s safe to say that if your breasts are spilling over the top of the bra, it’s probably not the right one for you. That much is obvious. But wait, there’s another test you could do as well that’s super easy. When you try the bra on, raise your arms above your head. If you find that you ‘pop out’ below the bra, you’ve got the wrong size. Trying this is essential if you’re trying to find the right sports bra as movement is everything.

9.  It should be right for the sport

Did you know that there are actually different types of sports bra out there? It’s true. There’s a real difference between a low, medium, and high impact sports bra. Which you ultimately choose to get depends mostly on the type of sport that you want to do. Should you be taking part in something that’s ‘low impact’ like yoga or pilates, you need a bra that matches. Equally, if you plan to do high-level aerobics, you will need a bra that works for that too. Consider this when you choose your bra.

Every single woman out there needs to own at least one good sports bra. There’s no way of getting out of that one. However, don’t make the mistake of believing that finding the right one has to be a chore. So long as you follow the advice here and look for all of the above, you should have no problem.
