If you decide to do your shopping online, there are certain special strategies you’ll need to keep in mind to help ensure you’re happy with your purchases.

Here are some foolproof tips for finding your dream lingerie with a mere click of a button:

Make sure you know your size

First and foremost, it’s crucial that you know your accurate lingerie sizes. So, have you been fitted by a pro within the last six months? If not, it’s time to get measured. You’ll need to know both your cup size and band size. Also, it’s incredibly helpful to know your “sister sizes.” What’s that, you ask? You can find your sister size by going up one cup size and down one band size, or up one band size and down one cup size. For example, if you typically wear a 36D, your sister sizes would be a 34DD and 38C.

Sister sizes are useful for several reasons. If an online store is sold out of your size, you don’t have to give up hope on that stunning bra you’ve fallen for — you can simply buy your sister size. Also, you may be able to solve certain fit issues with your sister size. For example, if you find you’re slightly spilling out of the cups in a particular style, you might try going down a band size and up a cup size. Or, if the band feels just a tad too snug, you can try a larger band size and smaller cup size.

Remember: Unfortunately, not all brands fit exactly the same. So just because you buy a certain size in one brand doesn’t mean you’re guaranteed to wear the same size in another. That’s why it’s a good idea to scope out that particular brand’s size charts online to determine how their particular products will fit you. It can also be beneficial to have some brand loyalty where bras are concerned. Once you know your size in a particular line, it’s far less risky to buy from that brand online since you already know how their products fit you.

Figure out your breast shape

Beyond your size, you should also take your breast shape into account when shopping for the best bras online. That’s because there are particular bra styles that are suited to each breast shape. For example, balconette bras work well for wide set breasts, while molded cup bras are ideal for asymmetrical breasts. Not sure what your breast shape is? That’s just one more reason to get fitted. A pro fitter can help to determine your shape, and even make suggestions for which bra styles may best meet your needs.

Always read the reviews

Many websites allow customers to write reviews. Take advantage of this feature! Hearing from real women how particular bras fit them may help guide you toward smarter shopping choices.

In some customer reviews, you’ll even see their height or bra size, which can make those reviews even more insightful. For instance, if a woman with your same bra size found that the band ran a little tight or the cups a little roomy, that’s some knowledge that could come in hand when you’re deciding what size to purchase.

The site Brayola takes things up a notch: their innovative system creates a personalized shopping experience based on your preferences. You start by telling Brayola about your favorite bra. Then the site searches for other women with the same go-to bras as well as size. Ultimately, you get to browse through your own carefully curated shop where everything on the page caters to your needs and likes. Plus, Brayola offers photos of their products on real women, not just models, so you can get a visual sense of how a bra might fit your body.

There’s hardly anything more thrilling or rewarding than buying a new bra — and you can do that from the comfort of your own home. Keep these tips in mind on your next digital shopping excursion and you’re sure to find some stellar pieces to add to your collection that not only make you look fabulous but also fit your figure flawlessly.

The truth is, we love our lingerie for making us look — and feel — sexy. And we love our shapewear for giving us a flawless figure and unparalleled confidence. But what if we could find pieces that could do both? The good news is that these magical undergarments do indeed exist. There are a number of lingerie pieces that actually double as shapewear, meaning you can reap the benefits of both in one piece.

Ready to take advantage of this multitasking magic? Here are three items to add to your lingerie collection — stat:

Longline bra

sexy black lingerie

Sandrine Plunge Longline Bra P5351 | Sandrine Hipster P5355 in Black

It’s easy to see why the longline bra is making a big splash in the lingerie world recently. For one, it’s a universally flattering style. There’s something innately elegant about the longline bra — just that extra bit of fabric gives it an eye-catching edge. That’s not the only advantage that this bra style has, either. The additional material that extends beneath the cups also has shaping benefits. And to boot, it provides some extra support, which is especially helpful for ladies with fuller/heavier busts.

The fabric underneath the cups on a longline bra helps to smooth out the top of the waist, almost like a bustier would. That makes it a phenomenal pick for wearing under body-hugging dresses or tops with high-waisted skirts. To get the most support and shaping, look for longline bras that feature boning. Fortunately, there are a wide array of styles to choose from as well, so whether you’re looking for a longline bra with plunging neckline, unlined cups, underwire, or padding, you’re bound to find one that fits your needs.

Bustier

shapewear lingerie

Elissa Low Back Bustier P5017 | Elissa Bikini P5013 in Black

Super supportive yet undeniably sultry, the bustier is a surprisingly versatile piece to have in your arsenal. This form-fitting garment hugs your entire torso, shaping the waist while also gently pushing the breasts up. Basically, you’re getting support, lift, and shaping all in one. If you have an hourglass shape, consider this piece your new go-to for showing off your feminine figure. And since a bustier typically has no straps, it’s a phenomenal substitute for a strapless bra when you want a little extra help in the shaping and support department.

There are a wide variety of bustiers to choose from. If you’re full-busted, consider a bustier with supportive lined cups with underwire, which will provide the perfect combo of lift and coverage.

High-waist brief

sexy plus size lingerie

Charlotte Padded Bra 6901 | Charlotte High Waist Brief 6917 in Red/Black

In case you haven’t noticed, the high-rise panty is back with a vengeance. And we couldn’t be more grateful for this retro resurgence: not only does it have a super seductive pin-up vibe, but it’s undeniably comfortable. Oh, and did we mention it can function as shapewear, too?

Since the panty extends farther up on your mid-section toward your navel, it won’t cut into your tummy or hips. That means you’ll achieve a smoother line under clothes, with no unsightly bulges. Plus, a high-waist brief accentuates your curves, highlighting your shapely hips and derriere. And if that won’t make you feel like a feminine goddess, what will? Look for a seamless high-waist brief if you’re wearing a form-fitting dress or skirt to avoid any visible panty lines. In luxe fabrics like silk and satin, this panty style is just as chic as it is comfy.

Who says shapewear can’t be stylish? You really can have it all with these three lingerie staples. Before investing in any of these multitasking garments, you’ll obviously want to be sure you know your proper size (and if you haven’t gotten fitted in the last six months or more, it’s time to do so). But once these practical pieces are in your collection, they’re sure to become instant favorites.

It’s hard to believe that bras (as we know them) haven’t been around that long. In fact, the word “brassiere” was only added to the Oxford English Dictionary a little over a hundred years ago (in 1911). Since the bra was invented, it’s come a long way. Today, there are a slew of different styles to choose from — with underwire and without, with molded cups or unlined cups, full cups and demi cups, and more — all in a wide variety of different colors and fabrics. Arguably one of the most important innovations in lingerie was the push up bra. Not only does it put your cleavage on display, but it provides unparalleled lift and support. There’s a push up bra for every breast size and shape, and it’s a surprisingly versatile style. It serves well under a form-fitting cocktail dress but looks equally stunning under a casual blouse with a plunging neckline.

Did you know that push-up bras are one of the most popular styles? In fact, women rated them the No. 1 Greatest Fashion Invention Ever in one survey, ahead of bootcut jeans, stilettos, and the little black dress. But where did the push up bra come from? Let’s dive into the origins of this well-loved lingerie piece.

Before the push up bra…

The truth is, women have been wearing bra-like garments to cover or restrain their breasts for centuries. According to The Huffington Post, female athletes in ancient Greece donned a strip of fabric that somewhat resembles a bandeau bra during physical activity — it both supported the breasts as well as accentuated them.

Then, corsets were all the rage during the Victorian Age. And finally, in 1914, socialite Mary Phelps Jacob invented the “Backless Brassiere. According to Time Magazine, she came up with the idea while getting ready for a party. She sought a more comfortable undergarment that would be less restrictive than a corset and allow her to dance — so she sewed together two handkerchiefs and some ribbon. It was an instant sensation, and she eventually patented her design.

A new style makes a splash

One might say the push up look has been around for quite some time — after all, the corsets of the 15th and 16th centuries were designed to push the breasts upward, putting them on display. However, it took some time for the push up bra as we know it to finally come into fruition.

One major milestone happened during the 1930s when cup sizes were introduced. This sizing system meant a more comfortable bra with far more versatility in terms of shaping and accentuation of the bust line. Meanwhile, underwire was slowly becoming mainstream as well, and as such, bras were providing more and more lift.

Then, in 1947, Frederick Mellinger invented the first padded bra, according to Women’s Health Mag. This was a significant innovation: It gave women the ability to add more volume and shaping to their bust lines. But the real breakthrough happened in 1964 when designer Louise Poirier created the Wonderbra for Canadian company Canadelle. The Wonderbra, which was designed with the intention of replacing a girdle, was an instant hit for being both practical and sexy at the same time.

And there you have it. Today, you can find a wide range of push-up bras to meet your unique needs and preferences. Remarkably, though, this style has only been available for a little more than 50 years. There’s no doubt about it: We’re ultra grateful for the invention of the push up bra. Contrary to popular belief, this style isn’t just for smaller breasted women looking to boost their bust line. It’s also just a supremely supportive style that offers incredible shaping and support. Isn’t it about time you added one to your collection?

If there’s one thing that we women all have in common, it’s this: our breasts eventually start sagging. It’s a fact of life — no matter how small or large your boobs are, no matter how good your genes are or how much you work out your chest muscles, they will inevitably begin to droop as you get older. So naturally, many of us eagerly seek out ways to halt this process. One common belief is that wearing a bra may help to ward off sagging. But is this true? And if it is, which kinds of bras are most effective?

Truthfully, it’s a complex subject — but we’re prepared to answer all your burning questions. Read on to learn how bras can or can’t play a role in stopping your breasts from going south.

Can bras stop sagging?

We hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the reality is this: No, a bra cannot completely prevent your boobs from sagging. But before you get bummed, know this: There are things you can do to slow the process down.

Indeed, a bra will temporarily hold your breasts in a higher place. So if your breasts are already starting to droop, wearing the right underwire bra — whether a demi-cup bra or a push-up bra, can give you some major lift. However, that doesn’t mean that wearing those bras will stop them from sagging. Sagging is merely a fact of aging. As you get older, the ligaments that help keep your breasts looking perky begin to stretch out. Meanwhile, breast tissue gets gradually replaced with fat. And of course, your skin loses some of its elasticity as well. Now add in the factor of gravity and it’s easy to see why sagging is basically unavoidable.

That said, there are other lifestyle factors that come into play with sagging that you can control. And spoiler alert: one of them does have to do with wearing a bra.

Related: 4 Myths About Sagging Breasts Busted

What can you do to stop sagging?

Even though you may not be able to prevent it entirely, here are a number of things you can do to delay it.

One 2008 study at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine found smoking and having a high body mass index, for example, are risk factors for breast sagging. According to a separate study published in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal, smoking breaks down elastin, a protein that gives skin its supple, youthful appearance.
It’s also worth pointing out that weight fluctuation can lead to sagging, as it causes the skin on the breasts to stretch out, so it’s best to avoid any yo-yo dieting.

While exercises like pushups, chest presses, and dumbbell flyes may not stop sagging (they don’t work the breast tissue itself), they will strengthen the muscles beneath your breasts, which can help offer a subtly lifted appearance.

You may want to think twice about sunbathing, too: when your breasts are exposed the UV rays, that can have a negative effect on the skin. You’ve heard how neglecting to put SPF on your face can cause wrinkles, right? Well, your boobs are no different. UV radiation breaks down the collagen in your skin, which accelerates sagging and wrinkling.

But without a doubt, one of the best things you can do to prevent premature sagging is wearing a supportive sports bra. When you work out — especially with exercises like dancing, running, and plyometrics — you subject your breasts to additional strain. Over time, that strain can stretch out the Cooper’s ligaments in your breasts, thus eventually causing them to sag. The right sports bra can minimize bounce, thus limiting strain and preventing that premature sagging from happening. Look for sports bras with adjustable straps and bands that are made with traditional cup sizes (as opposed to XS-XL.) Sports bras that combine encapsulation and compression technology are ideal, especially for high impact workouts. Look for sports bras that contain wide straps and sturdy underbands for maximum support as well.

The bad news? Bras may not be able to completely ward off sagging. The good news, though, is that there are still many things you can do to keep your breasts looking perky for as long as possible, such as avoiding smoking and sun exposure, maintaining a healthy weight, and wearing a supportive sports bra during workouts.

When it comes to planning a boudoir shoot, there are many things you have to decide on, including the photographer, outfits, hairstyle and makeup, and of course — the setting. While the setting isn’t always given as much consideration as — say, which bra and panties you’ll wear — it should be carefully selected. Where you shoot will not only have a major impact on the mood and vibe of your photos, but it also may impact how you feel during the experience.

From the furniture to the lighting, there are many aspects to weigh in choosing the perfect location for your boudoir shoot. Need some inspiration? Here are a few settings to consider.

Your bedroom

There are many benefits to shooting in your own home. For one, you’re bound to feel mega comfortable in this space, which could translate to confidence on camera. Also, the shoot will have an inherently personal touch. And to boot, you won’t have to worry about renting space, making it a cost-effective choice.

Of course, you’ll need to factor in the lighting in your home. If your bedroom doesn’t have very large windows, you may want to consider the living room or even a home office instead for an equally exciting shoot. A boudoir shoot presents the perfect excuse to go out and buy some new sheets, decorative pillows, or a luxe throw, too, to make the photos look fresh.

The studio

Without a doubt, one of the most popular settings for boudoir shoots is at the photographer’s studio. Here, the photographer will have the most control over the lighting, etc. meaning the conditions will be optimal for stunning shots. Some photographers may even have some amazing props stashed away, such as alternate bed headboards, throw pillows, mirrors, etc. so that you can customize the shoot for your desired aesthetic.

It’s always advisable to check out the studio in person before the shoot (or at the very least, scope some photos) so that you can decide if it suits your tastes. Ask the photographer whether the furniture and decor are adaptable — they’ll likely be amenable to you making the space your own.

A hotel

More and more people are opting to shoot their boudoir session at a local hotel. After all, many hotels have luxurious decor and stunning views, and they offer a setting that’s a little more thrilling than your own home yet still comfortable. While booking sites will show photos of the rooms, it’s very important that you ensure you know exactly what you’re getting when you reserve your room. So don’t hesitate to call the hotel and ask about viewing a specific room, or at the very least, check out photos from real guests on TripAdvisor.

Keep in mind that shooting at a hotel may very well mean a higher cost. While some photographers build the cost into certain packages, many will expect you to cover the room charge. So if you do choose this location, you may want to make a night of it to get the most for your investment. Invite a couple girlfriends over after your shoot for some champagne and pampering, or spend the night with your significant other (after all, you’ll be all glammed up!).

A secluded place in nature

If you’re fortunate enough to live near a secluded pond, beach, or wooded area, why not take advantage of that for your boudoir shoot? Of course, this will require some extra considerations regarding the temps for the time of year you’re shooting. Also, you’ll need to be mindful of the fact that the weather will come into play — that means keeping an eye on the forecast and being flexible about rescheduling if need be.

That said, the images will no doubt benefit from the stunning scenery. After all, what could be a more awe-inspiring backdrop for your lingerie shoot than nature in all its glory? Plus, you’ll be dealing with natural light, which is always ideal. As an added bonus, you can be super creative with your ensembles when shooting outdoors to keep with a certain theme. For example, a beach boudoir shoot can be fun in regards to your wardrobe — a see-through beach cover-up and the right bathing suit for your body can go a long way. Besides, who needs a bed when you have the sand to stretch out on seductively?

There’s no right or wrong setting for a boudoir photo shoot — it’s all about selecting a place that’s right for your budget and personal tastes. Ultimately, the ideal location will give you peace of mind and confidence so that you can enjoy the experience and indulge in the sexiest side of you.

Let’s just take a moment to appreciate the miracle that is convertible bras. With straps that can be detached and adjusted, this multi-functional style can be worn a myriad of ways. Since they can be transformed, they offer a variety of options. In other words, they are the jack of all trades of underthings.

In fact, we’ll go so far as to say that every woman should have a convertible bra in their collection. Since these bras can transform into a variety of different styles, they can be adjusted to fit literally any wardrobe, whether you have lots of strapless dresses or off-the-shoulder sweaters.

Still on the fence about whether to invest in one of these ultra-popular undergarments? Here are just a few things we love about convertible bras:

Convertible bras are ultra versatile

Indeed, convertible bras are about as versatile as they come. First of all, they can be fastened into a number of looks, from halter and criss-cross to one-shoulder. Not only that, but they also come in a wide range of styles. For example, there are convertible push-up brasconvertible contour bras, and both underwire convertible bras and wire-free convertible bras. In other words, there’s a convertible option for every woman, no matter her needs in regards to support, lift, and shaping.

But back to the versatility aspect. Buying a convertible bra is a smart move because it allows you to be more of a minimalist in terms of your bra collection. Since the convertible bra can function in so many ways, you may find you don’t need nearly as many bras as you did before. Of course, you will still need some other options that a convertible bra can’t replace, such as a sports braracerback bra, or longline bra, but still — this multi-tasking garment can provide a ton of options, making it a worthy investment.

Some convertible bras double as strapless bras

There are lots of ways to take advantage of the removable straps on a convertible bra. But don’t forget that in addition to the many different ways you can wear it, you can also choose to keep the straps off completely! This eliminates the need for a strapless bra in your collection because a convertible bra doubles as one.

Pro tip: If you’re full busted, you may want to look for certain features in your convertible bra so to ensure it stays up when you wear it as a strapless. For example, anti-slip silicone tape can help to keep the bra in place so that you don’t have to worry about constantly pulling it up.

Convertible bras can also be worn with straps

Perhaps one of the most underrated aspects of a convertible bra is that it can be used as a traditional bra. When you don’t need to transform the straps for a special top or dress, you can just wear it with the shoulder straps in their normal place. Wearing it this way provides plenty of support, which is a major plus for those with larger or heavier breasts.

By now, you may be wondering how you managed to get away with not having a convertible bra in your arsenal. Since they’re super versatile, they can accommodate different types of garments and sleeves, meaning your investment goes a long way. In fact, you may find that just one convertible bra won’t do — with so many different styles of cups and fabrics to choose from, there’s something to be said for having a few different convertible options at your fingertips.

In order to get the most out of your convertible bras, it’s important to be sure you’re wearing the correct size. If you haven’t gotten fitted by a professional in the last six months, head to your nearest department store or lingerie boutique to find out your band and cup sizes. That way, you can shop for convertible bras with peace of mind that they will fit you flawlessly, and you’ll undoubtedly get plenty of wear out of them for months to come.

Real talk: All bras stretch out. It’s an unfortunate reality, but one we must accept. Though we’d love to wear our favorites for a lifetime, the fact is that most bras only last about six months to a year. That said, there are many things that you can do to protect your bras. Think of it this way: When you apply weatherproof spray to your boots or dry clean your coat, you help to preserve those pieces. Similarly, there are certain strategies to employ in order to maintain their shape. In other words, while bras are bound to eventually stretch out with wear, you can indeed slow the process down.

Without further ado, here are four foolproof ways to prevent your bras from prematurely stretching out:

Rotate your bras

One of the best things you can do to preserve your bras is rotate them. When you wear the same bras two (or more) days in a row, you don’t allow the elastic to recover. As such, it will start stretching out more quickly, and you’ll need to replace the bra sooner.

This, of course, requires that you have enough bras in your collection. The number you need will depend on how often you do your laundry. For example, if you only do laundry once a week, then you’ll definitely need a few more in your collection than if you do your laundry every other day. The bottom line is that rotating your bras is crucial — so make sure you have at least four bras to switch out if you do laundry frequently and at least seven bras if you don’t.

Hand wash them

The way you wash your bras can make a massive difference in their lifespan. The best way to go, of course, is to hand wash your bras. This method is the easiest on your delicates, and thus, the least likely to stretch them out. Due to the agitation, a washing machine will wear down the elastic fibers much more quickly.

That said, there may be times when you wish to wash them in a machine. If you opt to go this route, make sure to place your bras in a lingerie bag to protect them. This prevents the straps and hooks from getting caught on anything in the machine, which can cause them to get tangled, snagged, and yes — stretched out. And of course, if you do use a machine, make sure to set it to a delicate cycle and use cool water only.

Keep in mind that it’s especially ideal to hand wash underwire and padded bras in order to preserve their shape, as wire and padding are most likely to get impacted in a washing machine.

Air dry your bras

It may be tempting to toss your bras in the dryer, but doing so can wreak some serious havoc on them. Dryer machines use intense heat — and that level of heat causes damage to not only the underwire but the fibers in your bras. Putting your bras in a dryer can break down the elastic, thus causing them to stretch out faster.

You’re much better off air drying your bras on a flat surface, like a drying rack or counter, or over a hanger. Also, never wring them out or twist them, as this can stretch them out and/or leave them otherwise misshapen. If you want to get excess water out of them, you can gently press them between two towels.

Don’t hang them by their straps

Now that you know to air dry your bras, you might think you should hang them on a hanger by their straps — but not so fast. This method is best avoided, as hanging bras this way puts some strain on the straps, causing them to stretch out. As a result, you may eventually notice that no matter how much you tighten your adjustable straps, they’re still not staying up on your shoulders.

Instead, if you prefer to dry them on a hanger, you can lay them horizontally so that they’re hanging by the center gore. Otherwise, laying them flat works well.

By keeping these tips in mind, you can protect your precious bras from stretching out prematurely. While wearing them does guarantee that they will inevitably stretch out gradually, you’ll get maximum use out of them if you care for them properly. Here’s to making your go-to bras last for as long as possible!

When buying bras, there are a ton of decisions to make. Should you buy underwire bras or wire-free? Full-coverage or demi-cup? Bralette or padded bra?

One of the most important decisions you can make revolves around the level of lining or padding in your bra. In other words, choosing between unlined brasmolded bras, or something in between.

If you’ve struggled with picking between these common styles, fret not: We’ll dive into all the differences between them so you can be a smarter shopper.

You should try molded bras if…

You want some serious shaping

One of the primary benefits of molded bras revolves around shaping. The molded cups can actually sculpt your breasts into a more rounded, lifted shape — a universally flattering look. This can be especially advantageous for women with pendulous or shallow breasts.

You have asymmetrical breasts

Are your breasts two different sizes? Don’t stress — you’re not alone! Asymmetrical breasts are actually somewhat common. In fact, no woman’s breasts are entirely symmetrical. But if their size difference is bothering you, molded bras can be immensely helpful. The padding in these bras can help to even out their appearance.

You want ample coverage

If you’re concerned about your nipples showing, molded bras are an ideal pick. The thickness of the cups means you won’t have to worry too much about any embarrassing situations. As such, they’re a perfect style to wear under clingy or form-fitting tops, such as a body-hugging tank.

You should try unlined bras if…

You prefer your natural shape

If you love your breast shape (hooray!) then why try to sculpt it into anything else? An unlined bra allows you to embrace the inherent beauty of your bustline. While an unlined bra with some underwire will still give you lift, it won’t do much in the way of shaping — which is a good thing if you’re happy with your natural look.

You want something lightweight

Especially during the sweltering months, you may be eager to wear lightweight bras. Unlined bras are perfect for summer days — with zero padding and less fabric overall, they feel like wearing next to nothing.

Or, if neither work…

Not sold on molded bras or unlined bras? Good news: you can find an in between.

Lightly lined bras basically provide the best of both worlds — with a little extra fabric, they provide more coverage than unlined bras but not as much as padded bras. However, they still allow you to show off your natural breast shape, as the cups are not molded in any way.

The reality is, you don’t have to choose between molded bras and unlined bras — both may have a place in your collection. After all, each has different benefits and may work better with different ensembles or on different occasions. While molded bras offer superior shaping and coverage, unlined bras are lighter and show off your natural shape. And both styles can provide plenty of support, depending on the features of the specific bra. Choosing between molded bras and unlined bras all comes down to your priorities. And at the end of the day, if you really can’t decide, you can compromise with lightly lined bras.

The babydoll is hands down one of the most popular lingerie styles today, but it’s nothing new, and it’s definitely not a passing fad. In fact, as early as the 1930s, women wore short lace-trimmed bed jackets and capes that hit well above the knee — styles that closely resembled babydolls. Then, in 1956, Carroll Baker starred in the movie Baby Doll wearing a short nightie that quickly took on the name of the film. Nowadays, the babydoll is a go-to for women who want to look both innocent and sexy at the same time.

If you’re eager to add a babydoll to your collection (and who can blame you?) Here are a few shopping tips to keep in mind:

Consider the support

Babydolls come in a wide variety of designs. Especially you’re full busted, you’ll definitely want to consider the level of support. Many babydolls contain separated cups — some have underwire and others don’t. It comes down to a matter of personal preference where underwire is concerned, though you should keep in mind that wire will give you a more lifted appearance. Some babydolls contain padded cups, and others are unlined. Again, it’s your choice whether you’d like to let the natural shape of your breasts shine or rather you’d like molded cups to sculpt them into a rounded shape.

Whichever babydoll you choose, it’s crucial to pay attention to fit. Not only will this ensure that the babydoll is as a flattering as possible, but it will also ensure that you’re getting adequate support.

Try out different fabrics

While babydolls are known for being sheer, they are available in a range of materials.

Indeed, the majority of them tend to be made from semi-transparent, lightweight fabric, such as chiffon. However, there is still a bevy of options to choose from. Whether you prefer a babydoll that’s opaque in silk or satin, or a see-through babydoll in lace or mesh, you’re bound to find one that lines up with your tastes.

Don’t forget detailing

It’s all in the details when it comes to lingerie. So if you’re really looking to make a statement, don’t shy away from babydolls that have playful, eye-catching accents, such as a bow at the center of the cups or at the bottom of the straps, ruffles, ribbons, lace trim, slits, and keyholes. The smallest detail can make a babydoll instantly more stunning, so if you’re aiming to impress with your lingerie, you may want to seek out a piece that’s adorned with something special.

Find the perfect panty

Babydolls are typically cut extremely short, typically only covering the tops of the thighs. Moreover, they are often cut with a slit in the middle or made with a transparent material. That means they’re perfect for showing off a stunning pair of panties. Some babydolls may come with a matching panty, but we recommend trying out a few different styles, such as a Brazilian thonghipster, or bikini, to see which you like best with your babydoll and also your body type.

That’s part of the fun with babydolls — you can mix and match the panty you wear with it, achieving a slew of different looks with the same piece of lingerie!

Because babydolls fit more loosely below the waist than chemises do, they are better at concealing your tummy or love handles. Because they are fitted at the top, babydolls still show off your bust and waistline to create a sexy finish for your look.

Pro tips

With a short hemline, form-fitting bodice, and looser skirt, the babydoll is basically a nightgown but with a distinctly seductive yet youthful vibe. And they’re a flattering choice for nearly any body type. As they provide a little more coverage than a bra and panty set, they’re perfect for when you’re feeling modest. But make no mistake — just because they show less skin than some other lingerie pieces doesn’t mean they aren’t super sultry. The babydoll not only shows off your legs and draws attention to your bust, but it’s also typically sheer, so it has an element of tease.

If you have curves, we’re here to give you just one cardinal piece of style advice: show them off. And what better way to flaunt your figure than with lingerie? In fact, some lingerie is specially designed to accentuate your curves. Just as you dress for your body type with certain styles of dresses, tops, and denim, you’ll also want to consider your shape when shopping for underthings.

So, which pieces are best for hourglass figures? In this guide, we’ll break down our top favorite lingerie looks for voluptuous bodies.

Bustier & Bikini

strapless bustier

Elissa Bustier P5017 | Elissa Bikini P5013 in Black

bustier is a go-to for curvy ladies for a reason: It draws attention to the smallest part of your silhouette (your waist) while also highlighting your full bust, making you feel oh-so-feminine. There is also a wide range of styles to choose from, so whether you’re looking for something sleek and simple or ornate with elaborate detailing, you’re bound to find a bustier that matches your tastes.

A bustier typically provides a significant lift for the bust but also smooths out the waist. Pair it with a classic bikini panty in a luxe fabric and you’ve got a stunning ensemble. To boot, a bustier can double a shapewear under certain ensembles — how’s that for multi-tasking?

Demi Bra & Hipster

The beauty of a demi-cup bra is that it lends some major lift and showcases your cleavage without being quite as dramatic as a push-up bra. Try an allover lace unlined demi-cup bra to strike a classically elegant look, or opt for a padded demi-cup bra in a fun pattern for a look that’s a bit more flirty and fun. Whichever vibe you go for, you can pair your demi-cup bra with a hipster panty, which is playful yet still undeniably sexy at the same time. Though a hipster provides a tad more coverage, it also shows off your curvy hips, making it a phenomenal choice for anyone with an hourglass shape.

Longline Bra & Hipster

longline underwire bra

Sandrine Plunge Longline Bra P5351 | Sandrine Hipster P5355 in Burgundy

If you have a penchant for retro romance, then this set should definitely be in your collection. The longline bra may have a certain vintage appeal, but it’s been making a major comeback — and with good reason. This style is ultra flattering and also super supportive at the same time. Not only does the longline bra provide superior lift, but the extra fabric provides additional support under the bust, which is especially helpful for those with larger/heavier breasts because it takes some of the strain off your back and shoulders.

Also, a longline bra has shaping benefits: Like a bustier, it smooths out your torso, making it a perfect pick to wear under form-fitting dresses or a high-waisted pencil skirt when you want to accent your small waist and feminine hips. There are a wide variety of longline bras to choose from — some only extend a couple inches below the cups and others extend all the way down to the top of the hips. Additionally, longline bras come with underwire or wire-free, and with unlined cups or padded cups, so you’re sure to find one that meets your unique needs.

As for what to pair with a longline bra, you’ll be hard pressed to find a more perfect match than the hipster. This panty style is universally flattering, but looks especially striking on hourglass figures, as it hugs curves without digging into curvy hips. Though the hipster may provide more coverage than a bikini or thong, make no mistake — it’s still ultra seductive, especially when worn with a sultry longline bra.

Wired Babydoll & Thong

Looking for something a little more exciting than just a bra and panty set? You can’t go wrong with a babydoll. It lends more coverage than a mere bra and panties, but it still has an undeniable sex appeal. For curvy women, we recommend a babydoll with underwire in the bust — separated cups will not only ensure you have ample support but will also give you a more defined, lifted look. Go for one in a rich hue like red or purple, or if you want to play it safe, timeless black. And if you opt for a sheer babydoll, you can have fun mixing up what you wear underneath, as your panties will peek through oh-so-subtly.

The truth is, there’s hardly any lingerie that doesn’t look stunning on an hourglass body. Still, these are some of our favorite looks when you’re seeking to show off those feminine curves. Remember: Curves are something to be celebrated, and wearing lingerie is a wonderful way to do just that.
