What are shallow breasts?

Feel like your breasts lie very close to your rib cage without protruding very much? That’s one of the key characteristics of shallow breasts. They also tend to start a tad higher up on the chest. Shallow breasts usually lack volume toward the top of the breasts and are broader toward the bottom.

It’s worth noting that shallow breasts can be close set or wide set, and can also range in size.

Bras to try

The idea with shallow breasts is to seek out styles with ample support, but not too much coverage up top.

Balconette bra

Since maximum support and minimal to moderate coverage is the name of the game with shallow breasts, an underwire balconette bra is a spectacular choice. Balconette bras only cover a little more than half of the breasts, meaning you won’t have to worry about the cups cutting into the breast tissue (and causing the dreaded quad-boob). Seek out a balconette bra with three-part cups. Ideally, the cups will have vertical seams, which provide lift (horizontal seams provide projection, and shallow breasts may not fill out the cups completely).

Demi-cup bra

Your best bet with shallow breasts are bras that have less coverage in the cups. That’s where a demi-cup bra comes in: It only covers about two-thirds of the breast, so you don’t have to worry about not filling up the top of the cups. Look for one that has a little spandex or other material to give the cups some stretch for a flawless fit. And if your breasts are wider set, find a demi-cup bra that has side boning built in.

Contour bra

This type of molded bra, which includes the ever-popular T-shirt bra, sculpts your breasts into a nicely rounded shape, so it’s super flattering on shallow breasts. As an added bonus, contour bras have smooth, seamless cups, so you don’t have to worry about them showing through your top or dress.

Padded bra

While unlined bras are great when you want to feel a bit more au naturel, they don’t offer much in the shaping department. A padded bra will contour your breasts and offer the appearance of overall fullness so that they look less shallow on top. Plus, padded bras are phenomenal for preventing your nipples from showing.

Push-up bra

The reason why this style works so well is that it pushes the breast tissue upward, and that’s where your breasts are the most shallow. Just make it a point to find a push-up bra that doesn’t have too much coverage in the cups to ensure you can fill them out.

My lingerie drawer used to consist of bras, panties and socks thrown about. (Sound familiar?) However, I took a few minutes to organize my lingerie drawer about a year ago. And, let me tell you – I’m still reaping the benefits of my efforts!

I’m going to dive into how my organized drawer impacts my day-to-day. But, let me first explain how I organized my lingerie.

How To Organize Your Lingerie Drawer

You can organize your lingerie drawer in just a few simple steps. I organized my lingerie by first removing all items from the drawer. I then tossed items that were old, falling apart or no longer my size. (Consider donating bras that are gently worn!) After condensing the collection, I put all the items I was keeping back into the drawer. However, this time I didn’t just dump the bras, panties and socks in. I separated them into three categories. I placed my fastened bras cup-to-cup on the left; I put socks in the middle; and I put panties on the right.

My other lingerie – like hosiery, teddies or babydolls – go into another drawer. However, you could get more creative when organizing your lingerie. You’d be surprised how much space is saved when these items are organized, and the drawer isn’t full of items you never wear.

What Happened After I Organized My Lingerie Drawer

2.  I only wore lingerie that suited me.

Only wearing lingerie you love does a number for your confidence. It’s empowering to know you’re wearing intimates under your clothes that you feel good about. You know, not stained panties or a two-year old bra that’s one size too big.

Organizing my lingerie drawer let me take inventory of my collection. I could then easily see if there was a lapse in my collection and buy new items if needed. Now I only own pieces that are flattering and look new. So, it’s guaranteed I’ll feel confident in any piece I pull out.

3.  My drawer stayed organized.

I figured my lingerie drawer would go back to its previous state within a couple weeks of organizing it. But guess what? It didn’t! It’s been a year, and the drawer is still tidy.

The separation within the drawer makes it easy to put items back in their place. My husband even puts my lingerie back correctly when he does the lingerie. And, I’m encouraged to keep it organized because I love the convenience it adds to my day.

It takes a small chunk of time to organize your lingerie drawer, but the benefits are plentiful. Organization is key to making the most of each day. Your home and office are organized for the sake of productivity and efficiency. So, why shouldn’t your lingerie drawer be organized?

Here are seven signs it’s time to replace a swimsuit:

1.  You don’t love the style anymore.

3.  There are snags in the fabric.

Snags in a swimsuit’s fabric instantly ages the swimsuit. It’s certainly fine to wear an old swimsuit, but you don’t want the swimsuit to look old. The snags could be from not laundering the item properly or rubbing against the side of a pool. Either way, you’re not going to like the look of the snags, so it’s best to replace the piece.

4.  The bottoms are stretched out and saggy.

Overtime, swimsuits can become stretched out – especially bathing suit bottoms. This means that the suit’s waistband may no longer hug your waist. It could also mean that the cheeks of the bottoms no longer cup your booty. Saggy bottoms don’t support your booty or do anything for your confidence! Toss those bottoms before they kill your confidence.

5.  The cups no longer fit or boost your bustline.

The cups in a swimsuit are designed to lift, support and boost your bust. Your swimsuit may stop working for your bust for a few reasons. You could have lost weight, gained weight or the suit could simply be stretched. It’s important that you love the way your boobs look in your swimsuit. And, the right cup size is just how you can accomplish that. Ditch your suit if the cups aren’t making you love your bustline.

6.  The elastic is damaged.

Damaged elastic on a swimsuit isn’t just a cosmetic issue. It’s a functional one, too. Elastic helps the swimsuit hug your body – lifting and sculpting in all the right areas. Elastic that is starting to show may be visually unpleasing, but it’s also a sign the swimsuit needs to be replaced. The more the elastic is exposed to elements – like sun, heat, water or oils – the faster that elastic will deteriorate. You certainly don’t want to be mid cannonball when your elastic straps pop. Toss that swimsuit, and replace it with another you love even more.

7.  The swimsuit no longer makes you feel confident.

Every tip we’ve discussed thus far has one thing in common – how each affects your confidence. You want to look and feel your best in your swimsuit. Don’t dry swimsuits in the dryer.

Heat from dryers can be very damaging to swimsuits. The heat can cause the elastic to deteriorate or stretch. Overtime, these changes to the elastic cause the swimsuit to lose it’s like-new fit. Avoid drying your swimsuits in the dryer to preserve the quality.

Hand-wash swimsuits.

Avoid washing your swimsuits in the washing machine whenever possible. The washing machine can be harsh all parts of a swimsuit – straps, cups, padding, etc. It’s best to wash a swimsuit by hand to ensure it’s handled delicately.

Use a lingerie mesh bag for washing.

Wash your swimsuit in a lingerie mesh bag if you must wash it in the washing machine. The mesh bag protects the swimsuit from the intensity of the washing machine. And, the mesh material allows water to rinse the swimsuit gently while protecting it from other items in the wash.

3.  Don’t sit on the side of the pool.

Sitting on the edge of the pool will create pulls on your swimsuit bottoms. This is because the concrete sticks to the swimsuit’s material. It’s also important to note that sliding against any edge of the pool can damage your swimsuit in the same way. Make sure to sit on a towel on the edge of the pool, and be careful to not rub against the pool siding.

4.  Rotate your swimsuits.

You want to rotate your swimsuits, just like you rotate your bras. The more you wear a swimsuit, the more it’s exposed to sun, sunscreens, oils and sweat. And, the more you must wash and dry it.
