Looking for a lingerie review or more information on a product before purchasing? You’ve come to the right place.

In this series, we’re sharing our favorite styles (and a few reasons why you’re sure to love them too.)

Sandrine Plunge Longline Bra

Construction

lace longline bra

The Sandrine Plunge Longline Bra is a sexy lace bra with a longline silhouette. The molded demi cups feature a plunging neckline and lace overlay that lifts and shapes the bust and frames the décolletage. This pretty style features a wide, multi-hook band that is as supportive as it is beautiful. Side boning in the band works to keep the bra in place – no need to worry about the bra rolling up throughout the day.

best longline bra

Aside from being aesthetically beautiful, the true beauty of this bra lies in its construction and fabrication. The molded cups are lined and designed to create a rounded shape that evens out asymmetrical breasts and provides lift and support without any extra padding. The lace overlay found on the cups, wings, and band feels lightweight and adds a romantic element to the flattering fit. This style works for a multitude of breast shapes. The plunging cut requires the center gore to be cut low – making this bra a good style for most round, tear drop, and wide set breast shapes.

longline plunge bra

Fit

longline demi bra

The Sandrine Plunge Longline Bra features a power mesh-lined band with a lace overlay. Due to the firm fit and minimal stretch of the power mesh, the band fits very snug. If you find a firm band uncomfortable, you may want to opt for your sister size (up one size in the band and down one size in the cup) for this style.

From personal experience with this style, the cup size of your sister size will have relatively the same volume and will fit closely to your regular bra size while the band will provide a little room for a more comfortable fit. Also, the bra fits the same in all colors, so you can order with confidence if you’re purchasing one or two at a time (I wear and love the Black, Cameo Rose, and French Blue).

How to style the Sandrine Plunge Longline Bra

black longline bra

Before we get to styling the Sandrine Plunge Longline Bra, let’s talk about the impressive color range. This style is available in five colors (Black, Cameo Rose, French Blue, Wild Pink, and Burgundy) with bridal beauty Ivory on the way for Spring/Summer 2019. The Black and Cameo Rose are gorgeous neutrals and the French Blue, Wild Pink, and Burgundy are also surprisingly easy to wear (wear them anytime you’d opt for a black or bold colored bra).

what is a longline bra

The longline silhouette of the Sandrine Plunge Longline Bra lends itself to a bunch of different styling options. You could wear it as a top under a blazer, jacket, or cardigan and show off the stunning style on a night out or pair it with a button down, sheer top, or V-neck dress for a glam daytime look. Once you get used to the snug fit of the band, you’ll find that it nips in the torso and provides a smoother silhouette under clothing – making it a great choice to wear under a fitted dress or with a high waisted brief for a little shaping.

Sandrine Hipster

pink longline bra

The Sandrine Hipster is a hipster cut panty in all-over lace. It features wide cut panels in sheer lace that hug curves without feeling restricting. This style runs true to size and has the perfect amount of stretch. It’s not meant to fit tight, but rather skim over the body. The lace is high-quality and doesn’t feel scratchy. The leg openings are cut thin and without elastic so you don’t have to worry about them digging into your thighs. The elastic at the waistband keeps the panty in place and doesn’t dig into hips. Aside from being feminine and classically chic, the Sandrine Hipster is one of those styles that is so comfortable you’ll forget you’re wearing underwear. If you’re looking for a replacement for your old, worn out undies (new year, new lingerie!), this is a style you’ll want in every color.

Care

how to wash bras

Proper care is crucial if you want your lingerie to last. We recommend washing bras and panties in cold water and avoiding the dryer at all costs. Hand washing lingerie is the gentlest option (as it involves the least amount of agitation), but machine washing on the delicate cycle is also an option if you don’t have time to hand wash. If you do machine wash your bras, be sure to hook them first, separate the colors (bright colors may bleed onto your light-colored bras), and sort them into mesh lingerie bags. Panties should also be sorted by color and placed in separate bags so the bra hooks don’t snag delicate underwear.

To wash, use a gentle detergent or laundry soap designed for lingerie and wash them on a delicates cycle in cold water. Once they’re washed, either hang dry them (drape the center front of the bra over the hanger – don’t hang a wet bra by its straps) or lay them flat to dry (away from sunlight which can cause the colors to fade over time) with the cups facing up.

Lastly, be extra careful when storing your bras. For molded bras, line them up in a drawer with the cups facing up – one bra in front of the other. Unlined bras, bralettes, and non-molded sports bras can be folded in half and stacked on top of each other to save space. Panties can be folded and sorted by color or style in a lingerie drawer.

how to organize bras

One last thing…

Education is a big part of my job as a bra fitter. I feel fortunate to be partnering with Parfait on creating lingerie-related content with the goal of helping readers make educated and empowered shopping decisions. There is so much to bra fitting that we can’t cover in a single blog post, so the goal since the very beginning of the blog has been to tackle it one article at a time.

If you have any questions about any of these products or if you would like us to do a review on one we haven’t done yet, let us know in the comments below.

Which red lingerie set will you be picking up at your local lingerie store?

Featured image lingerie:

Bras are one of those things that you almost always want to try before you buy. Between the differences in sizing, fit, and styling between brands, they’re a bit of a gamble to buy online. If you’re anything like us, you’ve probably ordered a few bras in the past that ended up not working out. When you’re shopping alone, bra shopping can be frustrating, discouraging, and stressful. Plus, you then have to deal with the hassle of mailing the bras that didn’t work back and waiting for a refund.

Enter the brick and mortar lingerie store. Nothing compares to shopping at a physical store. Ordering online can be risky, but shopping in store is completely different. No need to spend hours reading reviews and comparing bras online, you’ll know for sure if something is a keeper when you’re shopping at a store.

If you’re tired of browsing through pages of bras online or if you’re looking for an easier way to bra shop (and get a bra fitting from a fit expert on the same day), a trip to your local lingerie store might be just what you need.

Here’s how to find the best lingerie stores near you:

Use our specialty store locator

The quickest and easiest way to find a local lingerie store? Our specialty store locator, of course. To find a nearby lingerie store, type your address, city name, or zip code into the search bar and a list of stores will show up. From there you can find each store’s phone number, address, and a link for directions. How easy is that?

Google can be a huge help

A Google search can also help you find lingerie stores in your area. Simply type in your zip code or city name and add “lingerie stores near me” into the search bar. A list of local stores will pop up on your screen in a matter of seconds. Stores that carry a selection of lingerie (such as Victoria’s Secret, Nordstrom, and Kohl’s) may show up in the search results too, so don’t be afraid to click on “More places” in the results box and dig through the list. Some of the best lingerie stores are hidden near the middle and bottom!

Don’t forget about Yelp

Yelp is another search tool for finding local lingerie stores. With Yelp, you can also refine your search results to filter out the highest rated, most reviewed, and best matches for your searches. Yelp works similarly to Google – just type “lingerie store” into the “Find” box and your zip code (or you can select your Current Location) and Yelp will do the rest. If you’re looking for reviews for a local lingerie store, Yelp is the place to go.

Ask your friends for recommendations

We often ask our friends and family for restaurant recommendations, why not ask them for shopping recommendations too? Your best friend, sister, or mom might have a favorite spot that you’ll love too. Even if you prefer shopping solo, you’ll at least get an honest opinion on the store’s selection, customer service, and overall vibe. How amazing is that?

Final considerations

Online shopping has definitely changed the way we shop, but bras are typically better when bought in person. As such, we can’t recommend shopping at local lingerie boutiques enough. When you shop at a local lingerie boutique, you’re getting help from some of the most knowledgeable bra fit experts in the industry. They’re there to determine your bra size, hand pick bras for you to try, and make it so much easier for you to find bras that fit well and feel amazing on.

Bra shopping is a process. As much as we’d love to go into a lingerie store and walk out with new bras in a matter of minutes, it never quite works out that way. In most cases, bra shopping starts before you walk into the store, so it’s best to be prepared.

In this guide, we’re sharing a few things you can do to make bra shopping a little easier. Read on for everything you need to know.

Start with a bra fitting

If you haven’t had a bra fitting in six months or more, you’ll want to get fitted before buying new bras. If you’ve never had a bra fitting before, here’s what to expect: a bra fitter will measure your bust in the fitting room, determine your bra size, pick out bras for you to try, and check the fit of each bra to make sure they’re fitting you right. Bra shopping is a personal experience, so if you’re not comfortable with removing your shirt for a fitting or having your bra fitter check each bra in the fitting room, you can always let her know. Bra fitters want to make your bra shopping experience as easy and pleasant as possible – and communication and comfort are key to a good bra fitting.

Set a bra budget

How many times have you walked into a store and wanted to buy everything? To avoid going over budget, determine how much you’re comfortable with spending before you walk in the door. Be upfront with your bra fitter and let her know if you’re only looking for one or two bras or if you have a certain amount in mind you’re willing to spend on new lingerie. The same goes for online – know your budget, search for coupons and promo codes before adding an item to your cart, and don’t be afraid to pause and walk away from the computer if you feel overwhelmed. New lingerie can be pricey and stressful to shop for, but you’ll feel more in control (and be less likely to have buyer’s remorse) if you set a budget ahead of time.

Make a list of what you need

Overwhelmed by all of the bra styles out there? You’re not alone. If you want to make bra shopping easier and more enjoyable, make a list of the bras you need before you start shopping. Go through your bras and identify the bras you want to keep, donate, or toss. Then determine which bras your wardrobe is missing. If you’re building a new lingerie wardrobe from scratch, start with 2-3 everyday bras, 1 bralette, 1 sports bra, 1 strapless bra, and 1 beautiful lingerie set that makes you feel like a queen. Depending on your lifestyle, you may want to adjust the list to reflect what you’ll wear on a weekly basis. For example, if working out is important to you, you’ll need another sports bra or two so you can rotate your bras and always have one to wear on laundry day.

Shop smart

Searching for a strapless bra for a special occasion dress? Bring the dress with you. Do you live in t-shirts and comfy tops? Wear a t-shirt when you’re bra shopping so you can see how the bra will look under a favorite top. Shopping smart applies to online shopping too. Sign up on the email lists of your favorite lingerie stores so you never miss a sale. Consider following them on social media if you check Instagram more than your email. Buy a few new bras throughout the year and stock up on the fun colors and styles you’ve wanted to try during the big mid-year and end-of-the-year sales (like Black Friday and after Christmas) to get the best deals.

Try on everything and critique it thoroughly

Before buying a new bra, check the return policy. If you’re taking a chance on a store or brand you’ve never purchased before, you’ll want to know the return and exchange policy in the event the bra doesn’t work out. After purchase and before taking the tags off, wear the bra for a few minutes. Remember: A bra might feel different at home than it did in the store. While you’re wearing it, note how the underwire feels, make sure your breast tissue stays within the cups, check the fit of the bra straps (do they fall off your shoulders or do they stay put?), check the fit of the band (does the band stay in place or does it move up your back?), and check if the fit changes when you’re going about your day. Once you’ve decided the bra is a keeper, take off the tags and wear it with confidence.

Unsure what bra size to buy? We’re here to help. Read on for our top bra shopping tips.

Get a bra fitting first

When was the last time you had a bra fitting? If it has been six months or longer since your last fitting, it’s time. Bra fittings are the secret to finding bras that fit and your local lingerie store is the best place to go for a bra fitting. At a bra fitting, a fitter will determine your bra size, pick out bras for you to try on, and help you shop for new lingerie. Think of the bra fitter as your lingerie personal shopper. She’ll pull from her extensive knowledge to recommend the best styles for your breast shape, bra size, style preferences, and budget. And a bra fitting is typically free. What more could you ask for?

Use your bra size as a guide

You’ve probably heard that your bra size is more of a guide than a set rule. It’s true. Bras can fit differently from brand to brand. Here’s a familiar scenario: You just tried on two different bras that are the exact same bra size. You notice that the second bra fits different than the first bra. In fact, you’d probably need to go up a size in the band and down a size in the cup (your bra sister size) to get the best fit.

How can two bras that are the same size fit completely different? This is partially due to the fact there isn’t a universal sizing standard in the lingerie industry. This means that a 34D in one bra can fit different from a 34D in another bra. This also means that you need to take other factors into consideration when trying on bras – like the fabric, style, and construction – to get a great fit. Relying on your bra size alone may not be the best choice. But being open-minded to trying on different brands and styles until you find the one that works for you is the best decision you can make.

Focus on the fit of the bra

You’ve probably heard that your bra size is more of a guideline than a set number. Instead of worrying about the size, focus on the fit and the feel of the bra instead. Consider these questions when you’re trying on bras: “Does this bra feel comfortable?”, “Does the underwire poke me or hurt at all?”, “Do I need to adjust the straps more?”, “Does the band feel too tight or too loose?” Don’t be afraid to wear the bra for a few minutes and move, stretch, and jump in the fitting room (this is especially important for sports bras because you’ll want to check if your breast tissue is contained when you’re moving around).

Get help from a local lingerie boutique

Unless you’re replacing an old style or buying a new color in a favorite bra, bra shopping is never easy. We always suggest shopping for lingerie a local lingerie boutique. In addition to a large size selection (A to N cup and beyond), a lingerie boutique is sure to have the expert help you need when picking out new bras. No need to worry about grabbing a bunch of bras and hoping they’ll work out. A bra fitter will do all the work for you. Doesn’t that sound amazing?

We hope these tips help you find bras that fit well and feel amazing. For more help with bra fitting and bra sizing, head over to your local lingerie boutique.

Choosing a bra is never easy. Even when you have drawers full of beautiful bras, it can still feel like you have nothing to wear.

If you’re unsure which bra to wear, we’re here to help.

Here’s how to choose the right bra for any occasion or outfit:

Consider the occasion

Wondering which bra you should wear? Consider the occasion first. If you’re going to a work party or networking event, it’s typically best to wear a neutral bra that provides coverage and is out of sight. Hidden support is key here. Full coverage t-shirt bras and molded bras will do the trick. A t-shirt bra or contour bra provides a seamless, rounded shape while the full coverage fit keeps breast tissue comfortable and completely contained.

Getting ready for a fun night out? Opt for a plunge bra or pretty longline bra decked out in lace. A longline bra can also be worn as outerwear, so don’t be afraid to pair this pretty piece with a high waisted skirt or jeans and show off your lingerie. Weekends call for lounge bras or bralettes, wire-free bras and wireless bras can be worn anytime, strapless and plunge bras work perfectly under strapless tops and dresses with plunging necklines.

Consider your outfit

Choose lingerie that complements your outfit. That doesn’t mean that your bras and underwear have to match (we’re fans of mixing and matching our lingerie), but it does mean that you’ll want to consider your outfit. T-shirts and fitted tops and dresses call for seamless contour bras and seamless underwear underneath. With a slouchy sweater or looser fitting top, you can get away with a beautiful lace bra with unlined cups or a daring plunge bra with pretty details. It’s totally up to you.

When it comes to strapless tops and dresses, your best bet is a well-fitting strapless bra. Tucking the straps of your favorite plunge bra into your dress may save you a trip to the lingerie store, but it won’t be nearly as supportive as an actual strapless bra. When shopping for a supportive strapless bra, look for a wide bra band and anti-slip silicone tape on the inside of the cups and wings (avoid silicone tape if you have a latex allergy). Side boning (to keep the bra band from rolling up) and molded contour cups (to keep your breast tissue lifted and in place) may also be worth considering in a strapless bra.

Consider the fit

The bra you choose will come down to the occasion and your outfit, among a few other factors. As with any undergarment, the fit is key. Try to avoid wearing the ill-fitting bra in the back of your closet that you’ve been meaning to throw away. If you’re struggling with finding bras that fit well and feel amazing, we suggest visiting your local lingerie store for a bra fitting. The bra fitters at your local lingerie store are there to make recommendations and help you find bras that fit. From a new bra or two to a whole new wardrobe, they’ll pick out bras that will make getting dressed in the morning even easier.

Lingerie is notoriously difficult to shop for. Just when you think you’ve figured out your bra size, the inevitable happens: the lingerie brand discontinues your favorite style, you find out your go-to store doesn’t carry your new bra size (we’ve included three excellent Victoria’s Secret alternatives below), or you realize that you want a different style entirely (like a bralette or wireless bra, for example).

If you’re looking for a new store to buy lingerie from, this article is for you. Read on for the best places to buy bras.

Local lingerie boutiques

Local lingerie boutiques are the perfect place to buy new bras. Whether you’re shopping for a few new bras or a whole new lingerie wardrobe, the trained experts at lingerie boutiques have you covered. They’ll help you find exactly what you need and make sure you buy the right sizes in everything you pick out. We recommend local lingerie stores because you can find a wide selection of bras in sizes from 28A to 46N at lingerie boutiques – making it easier than ever to shop for hard to find sizes. Many lingerie boutiques are also trained to help with first-time bra fittings, maternity bra fittings, and mastectomy bra fittings, as well. The safe, judgment-free zone they create can help anyone feel comfortable getting a bra fitting while their top-notch customer service ensures you’re given the VIP treatment the moment you walk in the door.

Department stores

Have you ever shopped at a department store for lingerie? Many department stores such as Nordstrom and Lord and Taylor offer in-store bra fitting services in addition to a variety of styles and sizes. Nordstrom also offers on-site alteration services, so you can get a bra’s straps or band professionally tailored for the best fit. Department stores may seem like a pricey choice for lingerie, but when you’re buying pieces that you’ll wear 8+ hours a day, 7 days a week, you’ll be glad you made the investment. Additionally, their sale rack, annual sales (Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale), and off-price stores (Nordstrom Rack) can’t be beat if you’re shopping for new lingerie on a budget.

Online stores

Online stores may not offer the same bra fitting services that local lingerie boutiques and department stores provide, but you can find great deals on lingerie online. Of course, shopping for lingerie online can be tricky, so we suggest only ordering online if you’re already familiar with a brand’s sizing, if you’re re-purchasing a favorite bra, or if they have a hassle-free return and exchange policy. Online shopping can also be helpful if you don’t have a lingerie store nearby. Unfortunately, not all of us have the luxury of living near a lingerie store. Plus, many of our favorite lingerie boutiques have online stores as well. While it may not be the same as an in-store experience, you can still support and purchase lingerie online from some of the best lingerie stores in the world.
