Way too many of us are living our lives wearing bras that do nothing for our outfits and our confidence. We’re going about our days fixing our bra straps, pulling down our bands, and adjusting the cups thinking that it’s completely normal when it’s not. Adjusting a strap or a cup every once in a while is one thing, but if you’re constantly fixing your bra throughout the day, something is very wrong with the fit. It’s a sure sign that the bra you’re one isn’t the one for you, and quite frankly, you deserve so much better. You wouldn’t let your friends wear bras that didn’t fit them perfectly, so why should you? It’s time to show yourself the same love and care.

Which sounds great, but it doesn’t exactly help you find your dream bra – the one that solves all of your fit issues and makes you look like a billion bucks.

A supportive bra, defined

A supportive bra should fit your body like a glove, support your breast tissue without causing discomfort or pain, stay in place throughout the day, and blend seamlessly with the rest of your wardrobe. When you’re wearing it, you’ll find yourself forgetting that you’re even wearing a bra. In addition to feeling like a supportive hug, it makes your clothes fit better and boosts your confidence tenfold.

Yes, bras like this do exist! You don’t need to suffer in a bra that isn’t right for you.

Here’s how to find a bra that checks off all the boxes:

1.  Get a bra fitting

If you haven’t had a bra fitting in the last six months or more, do yourself a favor and get a bra fitting. Not only will the bra fitter be able to determine your bra size, but they’ll also handpick bras for you to try on. They might also open up your eyes to different styles and brands that you wouldn’t typically pick out for yourself. Plus, you can throw out your old bras and take home your new ones on the same day – no need to wait for your order to come in the mail.

2.  Get to know your breast shape

Do you know your breast shape? It’s the key to finding a supportive bra. Everyone who wears lingerie can benefit from learning about their breast shape – and it only takes a few minutes to determine which shape you have. Check out our guide here when you’re ready to get started.

3.  Try everything on

Trying on a wide range of styles is the best way to figure out which styles work best for you. Now that you know your bra size and breast shape, finding the right bras will be much easier. If you’re an online shopper, you’ll still want to read the product reviews and check the size charts (bras can be in UK sizing, US sizing, etc.), but you’ll probably be fine ordering bras online at this point. Just be sure to check the store’s return policy and chat with them before ordering if you have any questions.

Pro tips

It’s always a good idea to set a budget before shopping for new lingerie. It’ll give you a starting point and keep you from spending more than you can afford. That way you can focus on the beautiful lingerie that is within your budget and not worry about feeling guilty or suffering from buyer’s remorse later. Lastly, remember that lingerie that helps you feel good about your body is another form of self care. It’s important to edit your lingerie wardrobe every so often and replace, donate, or toss the bras that don’t fit anymore. Why not start today?

Finding a supportive swimsuit top isn’t easy, especially if you wear a D cup or larger. With swimsuit season coming up, you might be wondering if wearing a bra underneath could be the solution to getting the support you need. It makes sense in theory. Your everyday bras are supportive so surely they’ll add an extra layer of support under a bikini top, right? Not exactly.

Here’s why wearing a bra to the beach isn’t the best idea:

Why you shouldn’t wear a bra under your swimsuit

Bras aren’t designed to be worn while sunning or swimming. Fabrics like lace, mesh, and satin are vulnerable to chlorine and sand damage, which reduces their lifespan considerably. A dip in the ocean can cause irreversible damage to the fabric and fit – both of which can’t be fixed. Additionally, we wouldn’t recommend wearing a bra while sun tanning either. Direct sunlight can fade the color of the fabric and make the bra look much more worn than it is. Plus, sunscreen can stain those fabrics too.

If support is what you’re looking for, there’s a better option.

And it’s called a bra-sized swim top.

Why you should wear bra-sized swim tops instead

Bra-sized swim tops are swimsuit tops (and one-pieces) that are designed according to your bra size. Instead of buying a size M, for example, you’d opt for your bra size (34D). These are great because they fit like a supportive bra but feature fabrics that are beach-friendly. Plus, you’ll get the support you’ve been looking for without feeling like you’re wearing lingerie to the beach.

Who should wear bra-sized swim tops?

Anyone who wants to! They come in a wide range of sizes, including hard-to-find small band, big cup sizes (perfect for full-busted people). Because they’re designed with your bra size in mind, you can be sure you’re getting a great fit and you won’t have to worry about your bust being too big or too small for the cups. Also, bra-sized swim tops are sold as separates. So if you have a huge size difference between your bust and your hips (which makes buying a bikini off the rack a real challenge), you’ll be able to mix and match the sizes for the best fit.

Where to buy bra-sized swim tops

You can find bra-sized swim tops online and in many local lingerie stores. Retailers like Nordstrom, Kohl’s and Linda The Bra Lady have an excellent selection online for you to choose from. Prefer shopping in store? Your local lingerie boutique may just be the best place for bra-sized swimwear. You trust your favorite lingerie store with helping you pick out new bras, why not shop for swimsuits there too? Their expert staff can ensure you’re wearing the right bra size and find the best swimsuit for you. Perfect!

If you’re in the mood for a new swimsuit, now’s the perfect time to shop. There are plenty of cute swimsuit options out there that will support your bust and boost your confidence, including bra-sized swim tops. Why not have a look?

You’ve tried on all your bras (plus an adhesive bra and even going without one), but nothing feels right. You’re not sure if you can work with the bras you have or if you’ll need to buy a new one for your outfit. Sound familiar? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.

In this series, we’re tackling your lingerie questions and sharing the best bras to wear for every occasion.

Next up: a common lingerie question we get asked often. If you’ve ever wondered “What’s the best way to store bras?”, this article is for you.

Here’s what you need to know:

What’s the best way to store bras?

It all depends on the style of the bra.

Molded bras

Molded bras have pre-formed cups that are shaped on a special machine to ensure a uniform shape. Their design gives your bust a more symmetrical and rounded look under clothing. Most t-shirt bras are molded bras. Due to their delicate nature, molded cups are one of the most susceptible styles to damage. Poor care and storage can lead to wrinkled or misshapen cups, which can’t be fixed.

How to store molded bras

Molded bras should never be folded in half because that can damage their cups. It’s best to store them in a drawer lined up with one bra in front of the other. You also can stuff the cups of molded bras with socks or underwear if you only have one or two to help them keep their shape when you’re not wearing them.

how to store bras

Unlined bras, wireless bras, bralettes

Unlined bras, wireless bras, and bralettes are non-molded styles of bras. They may have soft padding or no padding, underwire or no wire, lined or unlined, etc. They can have three-part cups, like the Marion Unlined Wire Bra, or vertical seams to shape the bust, like the Adriana Lace Bralette. This group also includes bandeaus and triangle bras, like the Ciara Bralette, too.

How to store unlined bras, wireless bras, and bralettes

Unlike molded bras, these styles can be folded in half at the center and stacked on top of each other to save space. No need to worry about lining them up to keeping the shape of their cups. If you prefer to hang your bras, hang them by the center panel (which has little to no stretch) – not by the straps, as the straps can stretch out over time.

how to store bras in drawer

Bustiers and longline bras

Bustiers and longline bras are characterized by their longer band and wider wings. While longline bras typically stop a few inches below the bust, bustiers can extend past the waist and to the hips. These styles are known for shaping and contouring curves. Since the majority of a bra’s support comes from its band – they’re a supportive option for full busts, too.

How to store bustiers and longline bras

Bustiers and longline bras are best stored in a drawer, laying flat with the cups facing up. These styles can be stacked on top of each other. If the bustier has molded cups, like the Elissa Longline Bustier, you’ll want to place that on top of the unlined bustier so the cups don’t get crushed. You can also hang your bras up in your closet by draping them over a hanger (with the center panel resting on the hanger).

Next up: a popular lingerie care question. If you’ve ever wondered “Can bras go in the washing machine”, this article is for you.

Here’s what you need to know:

Can you wash bras in the washing machine?

The answer is two-fold: You can wash most bras in the washing machine, but your bras will last longer if you hand wash them.

how to hand wash bras

Machine washing your bras

Most bras can be washed in the washing machine, but not all. The washing machine can be too harsh for delicate fabrics like silk, lace, and satin, so it’s best to follow the garment’s care tag instructions exactly. If you prefer machine washing your bras, avoid using hot water, bleach, and heavy detergents and never mix your lingerie with denim or anything that isn’t within the same color family because the dye can transfer.

Always use a mesh lingerie bag – it will add an extra layer of protection for all your delicates (be sure to wash your bras and underwear in separate bags) so they don’t get snagged, ripped, or ruined in the washing machine. Also, don’t leave your lingerie soaking in the wash for a long time. A quick delicates cycle will do the trick. Lastly, be sure to hang dry your lingerie after washing it. Never ever throw your lingerie in the dryer – the heat can completely ruin lingerie. Press out the water and hang your lingerie to dry instead.

how to machine wash bras

Why handwashing is better

A good rule of thumb: the gentler you are with your bras, the longer they’ll last. Of course, it’s also important to factor in whether or not you’re wearing the right bra size (a bra that’s too small will have to do twice the work to provide some support for your bust), how often you wear your bras (do you wear the same bra everyday OR do you rotate them so you never wear the same bra two days in a row) and how often you wash your bras, too.

Bras can be expensive – no one wants to spend money on replacing damaged bras every few months. For the most part, handwashing your lingerie will keep it looking new for longer while helping to maintain its coloring and shape. Though it might take longer, handwashing is much gentler on lingerie than running it through the washing machine – and absolutely necessary for luxury lingerie and all of your favorite pieces.

Here are our favorites:

Best Strapless Bra for High Necklines

Jeanie Strapless Contour Bra

how to wear a bra with a high neck top

Jeanie Strapless Contour Bra and Hipster in Black

Strapless bras are the perfect match for a high neck top. With summer coming up, you’ll be seeing a lot of sleeveless high neck tops in stores. When you’re wearing a cute top and want to show off your shoulders, nothing ruins the design more than your bra straps showing. Fortunately, when you wear a strapless bra you don’t have to worry about that.

There are plenty of lacy strapless bras and bandeaus out there, but you’ll probably get the most wear out of a molded strapless bra with seamless cups. This style will shape and support your bust while remaining virtually undetectable under clothing. Add in a wide, supportive band with side boning to keep the place in place and you’re good to go. Our top pick? The Jeanie Strapless Contour Bra, which checks off all the above boxes + a few more.

Best Longline Bustier for High Necklines

Elissa Longline Bustier

what bra to wear with high neck top

Elissa Longline Bustier and Bikini in Black

Are you wearing a high neck top in a sheer fabric? Why not make your lingerie part of your outfit. Lingerie as outerwear has solidified its place in fashion – and we love a good bustier or longline bra under a sheer top for a little vintage-inspired flair. Bustiers and longline bras typically extend to the high waist or hips. Many of these styles feature the same firm, high-quality fabrics found in shapewear – making them a more comfortable alternative to corsets and shapewear, too.

If you’re looking for a supportive bustier that will shape your bust and contour your curves, you’ll love the Elissa Longline Bustier. This stunning style features all-over microfiber for a smooth fit, seamless strapless molded cups, boning to contour your waist, tummy, and hips, and beautiful lace accents. A phenomenal choice for fashionistas and brides-to-be, the Elissa Longline Bustier is one of our top picks.

If the Elissa Longline Bustier is too long in the torso for you, check out the Sandrine Plunge Longline Bra. You may not be able to wear this style under high neck tops (unless you tuck the straps in and use fashion tape), but it works under sheer tops and on its own as a top too.

Best Padded High Neck Bra

Evoke Padded High Neck Bra

what type of bra to wear with high neck tops

Evoke Padded High Neck Bra and Bikini in Ivory (from our sister line MOD By Parfait!)

Of course, the most obvious answer would be to wear a high neck bra under a high neck top, right? Not always – it really depends on the cut and fabric of your high neck top. If the bra doesn’t line up with the neckline (and it shows underneath), you may be better off with a strapless bra instead. Speaking of strapless bras, if you’re struggling with finding a supportive strapless bra check out our guide here. Though you might not wear it every day, a strapless bra is an important component of any lingerie wardrobe. You’d be surprised how many outfits you can wear a strapless bra with!

Here are our favorites:

Best Padded Demi Bra for Lift

Charlotte Padded Bra

what is the best bra for lift and support

Charlotte Padded Bra, Bikini, and Highwaist Brief in Blossom Print

Demi bras are a universally-flattering style that offers a lot of lift for many breast shapes. The cups are positioned to lift breast tissue up and keep it there. They can make asymmetrical breasts look more symmetrical and pendulous breasts look more evenly full.

As a modern demi bra with a vintage-inspired feel, the Charlotte Padded Bra is a total knockout. The three-part cups create a lifted and centered shape without any padding needed. The firm fit of the power mesh band enhances the fit overall and ensures that the bra will stay in place.

Best Unlined Demi Bra for Lift

Sandrine Unlined Wire Bra

what type of bra lifts and separates

Sandrine Unlined Wire Bra and Hipster in Cameo Rose

Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need padding for a lifted look! A bra with three-part or four-part cups is already designed to lift, center, and shape your bust – no padding needed. If you’re worried about adding bulk, a cut and sew bra is an excellent solution. You won’t have to stress about your bra size looking bigger than it is and you’ll get the shaping benefits and supportive of a well-made multi-part cup bra. We have a few favorites, including the Marion Unlined Wire Bra, Briana Unlined Wire Bra, and Sandrine Unlined Wire Bra.

Best Push-Up Bra for Lift

Matilda Push Up Bra

how to lift breast with bra

Matilda Push-Up Bra and Hipster in Nude

Push-up bras are a natural choice for a lifted shape. This popular style is characterized by strategic padding within the cups. Though the amount and placement of the padding may vary (some push-up bras even have removable pads!), push-up bras are all designed to lift and center breast tissue.

If you’re looking for a push up bra with seamless cups that won’t show through your tops, you’ll love the Matilda Push-Up Bra. This supportive style creates a rounded shape while lifting breast tissue for maximum cleavage. Plus, the stretch lace details and smooth microfiber fabrication feel comfortable all day long.

Best Super Push-Up Bra for Lift

Lynn Super Push-Up Bra

how to lift sagging breast with bra

Lynn Super Push-Up Bra and Brazilian Thong in Black

If gravity-defying cleavage is your goal, check out the Lynn Super Push-Up Bra. This heavily padded style is designed to increase your bra size by 1 to 2 cup sizes. Constructed with a wide range of cup sizes in mind, the padding creates a lifted yet natural look. It’s perfect for filling out tops and dresses that may be too large in the bust or for trying out a new look for a girls night out. For small busted people who have ever wondered what it would be like to have a larger bust, this is a great option for you. And if you wear a DD bra and want a larger bust, this is a solid choice for you too.

First up: t-shirt bras. If you’ve ever wondered “What type of bra should I wear for t-shirts?”, this guide is for you. It also applies to fitted tops and dresses, too (basically anything you’d want your bra to disappear under).

Here are our top picks for a seamless look:

Best Full Coverage T-Shirt Bra

Jeanie T-Shirt Bra

what bra to wear under a white t shirt

Jeanie T-Shirt Bra in Nude & Black | Jeanie High Cut Brief in Nude & Black

For a full coverage fit, the Jeanie T-Shirt Bra is your best bet. This seamless bra features smooth molded cups for a rounded look under clothing and wide wings for extra support. It’s also a bandless style – meaning there isn’t any additional fabric (the band) below the cups. This keeps the cups from digging into the fleshy part of your ribcage and makes the bra more comfortable.

Best Wireless T-Shirt Bra

Aline Wire-Free Padded Bra

what color bra to wear under white t shirt

Aline Wire-Free Padded Bra in Nude & Black | Aline Bikini in Nude & Black

The Aline Wire-Free Padded Bra makes a great t-shirt bra. The seamless cups, smooth microfiber fabric, and wide underband add comfort, support, and versatility to a beautifully classic design. The band features side boning to keep the bra in place and wide adjustable straps. This style flatters a multitude of breast shapes and proves that supportive wireless bras do exist!

Best Plunge T-Shirt Bra

Emma Plunge Molded Bra

which bra is best to wear under t shirt

Emma Plunge Molded Bra in Nude & Black | Emma Hipster in Nude & Black

There are plenty of plunge t-shirt bras out there, but we’re confident you haven’t tried anything like this one. The Emma Plunge Molded Bra is an excellent choice for a t-shirt bra. The plunging neckline works under low-cut and v neck tops while the seamless design ensures it will be virtually undetectable almost any outfit.

Pro tips

If you’re wearing a white t-shirt, look for a shade that matches your skin tone as closely as possible for a seamless look. Pay close attention to the shirt’s fabric too. If it’s sheer or see-through, opt for a bustier or bralette to make a subtle statement. Another option? Don’t rule out pink and red bras under a white t-shirt as they may work for you too.

Which t-shirt bra is your favorite? Let us know in the comments below.

Supportive bras with 28 and 30 inch bands can be difficult to find. These band sizes are outside of core sizing in the lingerie industry, which is comprised of 32-36 bra bands and composes the majority of the sizing selection you see in most clothing stores. People who wear 28 and 30 inch bands may wear anywhere from an AA to K cup or larger. Small band, small cup sizes (28AA-30B) often struggle the most with finding bras that fit, especially when they’re looking for a t-shirt bra or strapless bra with molded cups. Small band, big cup sizes (28DD-K+) have a larger selection of full-busted bras to choose from. These sizes can be found at many independent lingerie stores and online.

We’re firm believers that everyone who wears bras should have access to beautiful bras in their size that fit – that means bralettes for full-busted people and seamless t-shirt bras for small busted people, too. Fortunately, the lingerie industry is ever evolving and always looking for new ways to make people happy and satisfy their needs and wants.

If you wear a 28 or 30 inch band, you’re in luck. Here are the best places to shop for these band sizes:

Local lingerie boutiques

Before you take your search online, you might just find the perfect bra in your local lingerie shop. Independent lingerie boutiques are very different from the lingerie shopping experience you’re used to from retailers like Victoria’s Secret. Firstly, lingerie boutiques have trained bra fitters that are experts in their craft. These boutiques have strict requirements for fittings and put their employees through a lengthy certification process before they’re able to fit bras on their own. Second, lingerie boutiques have a much larger size range than most chain lingerie stores. They have close relationships with the lingerie brands they carry and stock sizes anywhere from AAA to N cups – ensuring that you’ll get a quality bra fitting from a lingerie expert and bras in the sizes that fit you best.

They have bra sizing guides to help you find the right fit, detailed product descriptions, and plenty of pictures to help you make the best purchasing decision. Additionally, HerRoom, Brayola, and Linda The Bra Lady have lingerie blogs (which are treasure troves of helpful information) to guide you along every step of the way – from picking out the right bra size to fitting the bra at home to teaching you how to care for it so it lasts as long as possible.

Cute plus size bras can be hard to find. You don’t want anything matronly or too old-fashioned or full-coverage, but you also don’t want a plain t-shirt bra. A demi bra with lace cups and a nod to retro lingerie would surely check off all the boxes, right? Fortunately, the Marion Wire Bra has you covered.

In a recent round-up, Oprah magazine selected our Marion Wire Bra as one of their favorite plus size bras for everyday wear. This chic vintage-meets-modern bra features demi cups wrapped in two-tone lace and lined with the lightest layer of lingerie mesh, a supportive smooth microfiber band, padded straps for extra comfort, and a fabulous keyhole cut-out between the cups.

The Marion Wire Bra is a stunning style that works for a multitude of breast shapes – from full on bottom to round/full to asymmetrical. The lace cups stretch just enough for a comfortable fit while the tall center front does a great group of separating breast tissue. A must-have for any lingerie wardrobe, this is one of those bras that you’ll find yourself reaching for again and again.

Thank you to Oprah magazine and Celia Fernandez for featuring our Marion Wire Bra in Black as one of their top 20 comfortable, plus size bras for everyday wear!

When was the last time you packed light? Packing light has its perks – no need to wait in the baggage claim or lug around an overstuffed suitcase throughout your trip. Plus, you’ll get the absolute most out of your wardrobe and getting dressed in the morning will be a breeze with your pre-planned outfit. Of course, packing light is often easier said than done. It’s understandable if you want to be prepared for any occasion on your trip, but hear us out: Do you really need ten bras and six pairs of shoes in addition to everything else? We don’t think so. We’re making a case for packing light – starting with your lingerie, of course.

For a weeklong trip, you’ll likely be just fine with packing 2-3 bras. And if you want extra mileage out of your lingerie wardrobe, a multi-way bra is the perfect solution. Multi-way bras include both strapless bras and convertible bras (which are cut differently than strapless bras and feature straps that detach). Multi-way bras are just as supportive as strapless bras and they’re available in a wide range of colors and sizes. As such, a multi-way bra in a shade that closely matches your skin tone or a classic black hue is a natural fit.

Ready to meet the bra that is going to make your vacation life so much easier? Here are our favorite multi-way bras:
