Having a well-stocked lingerie drawer will boost any woman’s confidence. Knowing you have various bras on hand gives you peace of mind that you’ll be prepared for any occasion. So, how many bras do you need? And, which bra styles do you need to create a well-stocked lingerie drawer?
Let’s discuss specific bra styles that you need and why these styles are essential.
Two to four every day bras
First things first, you’ll need two to four every day bras in your lingerie drawer. These are the bras that you’ll want to wear to work, under a sweater or during a night out. There’s no wrong or right bra style to be considered an every day bra. It’s simply based on personal preference. My every day styles consist of a push up, a padded bra and a padded plunge neck bra. All three styles are comfortable, but I mainly wear the push up when I want a little extra cleavage. But, I could wear it under a sweater and feel comfortable.
You want two to four every day bras because you should wash bras after two to five wears. How often you wash the bra will depend on factors like how long you wore it, etc. Having more than one go-to bras in your rotation ensures you can properly launder the bras.
One or two sports bras
Whether your workouts consist of a brisk walk or a strenuous fitness class, you’ll need a sports bra. Of course, how often you exercise and the type of exercise you do will determine which sports bra is best for you. Your exercise regimen also determines how many sports bras you need. One or two sports bras suffice for most people. However, if you perform long workouts almost every day of the week, you’ll want a couple more. (Because you’re probably sweating quite a bit.)
As you exercise, dead skin, sweat and body oils rub off on to your sports bra. Wearing the sports bra too many times between washes can irritate your skin. If your workouts are very low-impact, you should still wear a sports bra instead of a regular bra. Sports bras keep your breasts in place – supporting your breasts and alleviating soreness after exercise.

A strapless bra
Your lingerie drawer is not complete without a strapless bra. A strapless bra is suitable for many wardrobe styles – from off-the-shoulder tops and strapless dresses, to sleeveless blouses and razorback tanks. I’d recommend having one strapless bra that truly fits and makes you feel confident. But, if you live in a place that is warm year-round, you may want one or two more.
A convertible bra
A convertible bra is essential because the straps can be worn multiple ways. The Jeanie Strapless Contour bra by Parfait, for example, can be worn five ways – strapless, criss-cross, halter, one-shoulder and regularly. This type of bra adds versatility to your wardrobe. And, since it can be worn so many ways, it can usually serve as one of your every day bras. Now, that’s getting your bang for your buck!
A bralette
A bralette is another lingerie drawer staple. Bralettes are typically worn for style and comfort, and they come in a variety of styles and designs. Bralettes are also great for when you need coverage, but don’t want a lot of support – like when lounging around on the weekend. Having at least one bralette in your lingerie drawer gives you an extra accessory to style and an easy bra option.
These are the bra styles that are most conducive for your every day wardrobe. But, in addition to these styles, you can have special occasion bras that make you feel sexy. You may not wear those bras often, but they can make an occasion feel more special than if you wore your every day bras.
