If you’re wondering if your bra size will change from gaining weight, there’s no simple answer. If you gain weight, it’s possible you’ll bra size will change. But gaining weight in your bust isn’t always a given. It’s possible your bra size will remain the same after gaining weight. There are several factors that determine if you’ll gain weight in your breasts when you gain weight.

Factors that can cause your bra size to change when you gain weight

Every woman’s body is different. A woman’s body determines how and where she shows a weight fluctuation. Some women quickly notice a change in bra sizes after gaining as little as five pounds. On the other hand, some women need to gain quite a bit more weight before ever seeing a difference in their bust.

Here are the factors that determine if your bra size will change (including both the cup and the bra band) when you gain weight:

1.  Your genes.

Your genes have everything to do with your boobs. Your genes determine your boobs’ shape, size – and how they gain and lose weight. It all comes down to the density of your breasts, which is determined by your genes. Your genes affect your hormone levels, and those hormone levels decide your breast density. Whether or not your bustline increases after gaining weight depends on how dense your breasts are – how much fatty tissue they originally contained. Women with less fatty breast tissue may experience less change in their bra size from gaining weight. On the other hand, women with more fat tissue in their breasts may notice more changes.

2.  How much weight you gain.

Two women could gain 15 pounds and have different experiences in their breasts. It’s impossible to tell your body where to gain weight. Some of us reflect weight fluctuations first in our butts and some of us in our bust. Again, how quickly you see a change in your bust from gaining weight depends on how much fatty tissue was already there, how much weight you gain and, of course, genetics.

3.  Your age.

Many changes take place in the breasts as a woman ages. The ligaments in older breasts can become weak, making the breasts sag. And women that are past menopause may have more fat in in their breast tissue. This means that older women may notice a bra size change more quickly from gaining weight.

Remember:

Some women hope that gaining a few pounds will go straight to their bustline. Others hope gaining weight won’t affect their bra at all since a change in bra sizes requires buying new bras. However, a change in bra sizes could very likely happen when you gain weight. So, it’s a good idea to know the various signs that you’ve outgrown your bra. A bra that is too small may be uncomfortable and painful. You may even notice that your boobs are spilling out of the cups.

You should get a professional bra fitting even if you think your breasts haven’t changed after gaining weight. Gaining weight doesn’t necessarily mean you need a bigger cup size. You may instead need a different band size or a smaller cup size. Your bra size depends on the shape of your breasts, which varies from woman to woman. Always get fitted for a bra after gaining weight to ensure your bra is maximizing your comfort and confidence.

Wearing a bra that truly fits you shouldn’t be an after-thought. Although for many women, it is. Take me for example – I was wearing the wrong bra size without realizing it for years. Instead of realizing I was in the wrong size bra, I blamed negative aspects of my bra on bras themselves. I told myself things like:

“No bra will fit you perfectly.”

“Your boobs will never look like that in a push-up bra.”

These were pre-conceived ideas I had about bras. But after having my first professional bra fitting, my perspective on bras completely flipped. I did find a bra that fit me perfectly. And I did find a push-up bra that boosted my confidence and my bustline. Finding the right bra size doesn’t just mean you’re more comfortable in your bra. There’s a slew of perks that come with wearing the right bra.

Here are five amazing side effects of finding the right bra size:

1.  Your clothes fit better.

Wearing the right bra size makes your clothes fit better. For example, wearing a bra that’s too big can leave gaps between your boob and the cup. This gap can be noticeable under your clothes, especially when you’re moving around. On the other hand, wearing a bra that’s too small can squeeze your back or make your boobs spill out of your cups. Those skin bulges are also visible under your clothes. The right bra omits all that because it hugs your body just right to show off a smooth silhouette.

2.  Your bra flatters your boobs.

Your bra will flatter your boobs once you find the right one. You’ll no longer feel like your bra does nothing for your bustline. And won’t feel like you look “blah” in your bra either. If you want to minimize your bust, maximize it or accentuate your natural shape – the right bra can do it.

3.  You get a confidence boost.

Putting on a bra that fits you well gives you an immediate confidence boost. You feel fierce when you slip on your clothes, and you feel even better in just your lingerie. I used to prefer being braless in front of my husband when getting undressed. I didn’t feel confident in my bra because it did nothing for my boobs. I’d quickly take off my bra when I undressed with him around. However, now I’m not so quick to remove the bra because I love the way my boobs look in it.

 4.  You feel more comfortable in your bra.

The right bra won’t cause you pain or discomfort. Sure, you may still love the feeling of taking it off at the end of the day. But, a bra that fits you perfectly won’t terrorize you all day. The straps won’t dig into your shoulders. The cups won’t squeeze your boobs. You’ll feel supported and comfortable from the time you put it on until the moment you take it off.

 5.  You’re excited to get dressed in the morning.

Wearing the right bra for your body puts some extra pep in your step. It makes getting dressed a little more exciting. Think about it – the first thing you put on when getting ready are your bra and panties. It’s encouraging when you love how you look in those pretty under things.

Finding the right bra and bra size is not overrated. It’s the little things you do for yourself that makes you feel like the best you every day. And, wearing a bra that fits you well is one of those things! Think you may be in the wrong bra size? The best way to determine your size is by first getting a bra fitting at your local lingerie store.

For years, I wished I had bigger boobs. I was bummed about my small boobs. I thought having a bigger bust would make me feel more confident – in a swimsuit or in a nice blouse. And, I just wanted to have cleavage. However, I’m now at a place where I love and embrace my smaller bust. The grass always seems greener on the other side. But its all about perspective. If you’re down about having smaller boobs, don’t be!

Here are four reasons to embrace your small boobs:

1.  Realize all the positives of having small boobs.

When you wish for bigger boobs, you likely only think of the positive side of big boobs. You have natural cleavage, and you get a confidence boost from achieving a certain body image. But, have you considered all the positives of having small boobs?

A small bust makes it easy to sleep any way you want. Sleeping on your belly won’t typically cause you discomfort. (Unless that “time of the month” is making your boobs sore.) I have to assume it’s also easier exercising with small boobs. They stay still, for the most part, in your sports bra without getting in the way or causing you pain. Buying clothes may also be easier for us small-busted women. We don’t have the issue of popping out of our shirts or having gorgeous tops fit us poorly on the bust.

2.  Understand your boobs are beautiful as they are.

Your boobs are beautiful as is. Daydreaming of having a bigger bust distracts you from that. When I stopped wishing for bigger boobs, I realized how great my boobs already were. You may have small boobs, but they’re probably perky. And, take a look at your nipples and their proportion to your breasts. Beautiful boobs aren’t just bigger boobs. There’s so much more that makes boobs beautiful. And yours don’t need to be bigger to be better.

3.  Remember it’s easy for you to go braless.

Having a small bust makes it oh-so-easy to go braless. Of course, women with bigger boobs can go braless, too. But, I have to think having small boobs makes not wearing a bra more carefree. There are so many times I just throw on a sweatshirt and take my dog for a walk – no bra. And lately, I just don’t want to a wear a bra at all. With an extra layer or a jacket – or not – I’m effortlessly out the door.

 4.  You can always wear an enhancing bra to increase your bustline.

You can always opt for bras that make your boobs look bigger. From a push-up bra to a demi cup bra, there are options to increase your bustline. And, you can achieve any look you want with an enhancing bra – whether it be cleavage or a rounder, fuller bust. You can simply remove the bra once you no longer want the bigger boobs. Now, that’s having your cake and eating it, too!

You have to stop seeing your small boobs as a curse to see them as a blessing. There are many perks to having small boobs (pun not intended), just as there are with big boobs. Realizing your boobs are awesome as they are is a great way to boost your self-love. Having bigger boobs may give you a confidence boost. But loving and no longer critiquing your body gives you a major confidence boost as well.

Your boobs will undoubtedly change. So for now, embrace your small bust like it’s going out of style. Because I assure you, small boobs will always be beautiful and in style.

Parfait Matilda Contour Plunge Padded Bra P5311 in Bisque

Wearing the right bra size makes a huge difference in your day. It boosts your confidence because it works for you, not against you. And it makes you feel comfortable in your bra. Many women are wearing the wrong bra size, but don’t realize it.

Do you think you may be wearing the wrong bra size? Ask yourself these questions for a quick check to see if you might need a different bra size:

1.  Does your bra hurt you?

The right sized bra won’t be uncomfortable. If wearing your bra is causing you discomfort at all, you could be wearing the wrong size.

2.  Does your band ride up?

The bra band will ride up on your back if the band is too big. It rides up because it’s not tight enough around your body to help support your breasts. Try decreasing the band size if the band is riding up.

3.  Is there a gap in between your boob and cup?

I thought having a gap between your boob and the cup of the bra was normal. I was so wrong! This is one of the signs that your bra is too big. The cups should fit your breasts snugly, yet comfortably. If you’re experiencing this gap, you need a smaller cup size.

4.  Does the center of your bra rest on your chest?

The center panel that connects the two cups is known as the gore. The gore should rest directly on your chest. This helps keep the bra in place and provide support. If the gore is not touching your chest, and sort of hovering over it, your bra is too small.

5.  Do your bra straps fall easily?

Loose bra straps can be the result of the adjustment slider sliding out of place. So, first try re-adjusting your bra straps if they are loose. If the straps continue to fall down, it’s because you’re wearing a bra that’s too big.

6.  Do your boobs spill out of your cups?

You may see a little side boob in most bras. (Unless you’re wearing a full coverage bra, like a full cup bra.) But in general, your boobs shouldn’t be hanging out the sides of your bra. If your boobs are spilling out over the tops, sides or bottom of your bra, you’re wearing the wrong bra size. You probably need to go up in cup size.

7.  Are your cups wrinkly?

Your boobs will never fill out a bra that’s too big. This can result in the cups looking wrinkly, even while wearing the bra. Your boobs will fill out the cups perfectly when wearing the right bra size. Try going down a size if you’re experiencing loose or wrinkly fabric in your bra cups.

8.  Do your bra straps leave marks on your shoulders?

Bra straps shouldn’t leave marks on your shoulders. If this occurs, it’s because there’s too much pressure on the straps. Dented shoulders can be related to the bra band and are a sign you’re wearing the wrong bra size. When the bra band rides up, it requires the straps to carry more weight of your breasts. But, the straps aren’t meant to carry weight at all. The straps are merely there to hold the bra in place.

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, it’s very likely that you’re wearing the wrong bra size. I’d never suggest going to a lingerie store and trying to find the right fit yourself though. You’ll want to get a bra fitting at a local lingerie store to ensure you get the most accurate fit.

My 2017 New Year’s resolution was to be my own best friend. Being your own best friend means caring for yourself, going after what you want and doing things to promote your own happiness. This was my only resolution for the year, and you know what? It made for one of the best years yet.

If you don’t have a New Year’s resolution for 2018, you only need this one. Here’s why your resolution should be being your own best friend:

1.  It affects all areas of your life.

Being your own best friend is an all-inclusive New Year’s resolution. It inspires you to look out for yourself in all parts of your life – your relationships, family, social life, career, etc. A best friend will tell you the truth. She looks out for you, and she’ll give it to you straight. So, being your own best friend means you’re looking out for yourself in all ways possible.

You’re forced to see relationships for what they are. Your inspired to take time for yourself and your hobbies because you know it will make you happy. Your empowered to go after what you want because it’s what drives you.

2.  It inspires you to be healthier.

Being your own best friend also inspires you to make healthier choices. A best friend only wants what’s best and healthy for you. So, by default, you must see things this way, too. You’ll feel more motivated to make healthy eating decisions and to exercise regularly. Of course, it’s all in moderation. But, the point is that you’re watching out for your own well-being. Your physical health is a big part of that. Whether it’s meal prepping on Sundays or starting a morning exercise routine – your health falls under this New Year’s resolution.

3.  It forces you to see what’s good for you.

This New Year’s resolution forces you to see what’s good for you and what’s not. You’ll tell yourself to rid your life of things that longer serve you, just like a good friend would do. The things that you fill your time with make up the contents of your life. But those contents don’t always remain beneficial, and change can be good. If something is no longer working for you, or empowering you, it doesn’t need to stay in your life.

Perhaps it’s a relationship or your current career path that’s no longer good for you. One of the greatest ways I was my own best friend in 2017 was resigning from a job. I’d wanted the job so badly – it was my dream job, in a way. But, it became so stressful and overwhelming that it was negatively affecting other areas of my life. And no matter how much I revealed my unhappiness to my superiors in the office, nothing changed. I decided to leave for my own well-being. I had to do what was best for me. Because if you’re not looking out for yourself, who is?

Being your own best friend may seem like an easy New Year’s resolution to take on. And it is. But, at the same, keeping your own best interest at heart and doing things that truly serve you aren’t always easy. Sometimes you get into a situation, and you feel stuck. You feel like there is no other option than to continue on the path you’re on. But that is not the case.

In 2018, I challenge you to be your own best friend. I challenge you practice self-love every day, promote your own happiness and to create the life and self that you want!

How you feel about yourself impacts all areas of your life, which is why self-care is so important. Showing yourself love makes you feel empowered and allows you to be your best self. Here are eight ways to show your body (and self!) more love:

1.  Get the perfect body image out of your head.

For starters, get the “perfect body image” out of your head. It doesn’t exist! The idea of the perfect body is subjective – not everyone has the same image in mind. Change your perspective of what is beautiful, and you’ll feel much more confident in your skin. When you’re not comparing yourself to something, you have more gratitude for your body and all it does for you.

2.  Exercise regularly.

Yes, we all know that exercise is good for the body. But, exercise does more for your body than make it strong. It also improves your mental health. I can be in a lousy mood, but I always feel rejuvenated after forcing myself to take a brisk, 30-minute walk. Don’t be too critical about what type of exercise you’re doing. Take 30 minutes or so a few times a week to get yourself moving. It will make your body and mind feel aligned, and you’ll feel good that you’re taking care of yourself.

3.  Lose negative thoughts about yourself.

Losing negative thoughts about yourself is one of the best ways to boost your daily self-love. We are often our hardest critics, and that criticism can be exaggerated or completely false. Consider that there is one person that your best interest at heart and can build you up or tear you down. That person is you! So, ditch that negativity and only have positive, empowering thoughts about yourself.

 4.  Making healthy food choices.

What we put into our bodies fuels us or slows us down. Being conscious of what you’re eating can help you feel better about your body. (Not to mention, your body will just feel better.) I love candy, but when I eat too much of it too often, I get bloated and lethargic. And my face begins to breakout. Those things don’t leave me feeling good about myself.

5.  Surround yourself with positive people.

The people around you affect how you feel every day. Distance yourself from people with negative perspectives. Instead, surround yourself with positive people who want to build themselves up, as well as you. Their positivity will encourage you to be more positive about yourself.

6.  Do small things that make you feel confident.

I’m a big believer in doing the small things that make you feel confident. For me, it’s having polished nails, tamed hair and applying a mask twice a week to calm any breakouts. These confidence-boosting efforts take extra time, but they help you feel good. And, feeling good is invaluable.

7.  Get enough sleep.

Lack of sleep can make you negative, moody, emotional and unproductive. These are traits that make you feel lousy. Make sure you’re getting an amount of sleep that makes you feel refreshed.

8.  Allow yourself “me time.”

Having quality alone time allows you to refocus your thoughts and renew your energy. There will always be things you could be doing instead of taking time for yourself, like work, social events or being with your family. But you can’t give your best self to those areas of your life if you don’t feel like your best self. So, pencil in your “me time” apologetically. (Check out our list of quality “me time” activities.)

When you show your body love, you’re showing yourself love. And, it’s so essential that you love and feel confident in the skin you’re in. Make efforts to love yourself every day, and you’ll experience a happier you and life.

A true lingerie lover will have a bountiful lingerie inventory. From corsets and a variety of bra styles, to matching sets and stockings, she has it all. But there are some non-traditional items she needs to complete her lingerie drawer.

Here are six non-lingerie items every lingerie lover must have:

1.  Shapewear

No lingerie drawer is complete without shapewear. Whether you’re a size two or a size 12, every woman needs good shapewear. It keeps your garment from riding up, and it offers a smooth silhouette under your clothes.

2.  Lingerie wash bag

A lingerie wash bag is essential when using the washing machine to launder lingerie. It keeps your lingerie safe within its meshing, so water can gently flow through. And, it protects your lingerie from other garments in the wash. Of course, it’s best to hand wash your intimates to extend the lifespan of lingerie. However, sometimes you’re in a pinch and need a quicker option. And, when lingerie lovers have so much lingerie they adore, having a lingerie wash bag is a must.

3.  Lingerie travel container

Just like a lingerie wash bag protects lingerie in the wash, a lingerie travel container protects lingerie in your luggage. This item is one of many lingerie packing hacks to make travel easier. There are a few different styles of lingerie travel containers. Some are hard shells to protect your bra cups from being pushed in during travel. Some are larger containers with compartments to let you stack bras and organize panties. Others are simple pouches, making it easy to find panties in your luggage. From lingerie to swimwear, these travel containers are perfect for keeping delicate items safe and organized.

4.  Adhesive bra

An adhesive bra is a non-traditional piece of lingerie. These bras are backless and strapless, simply adhering to your breasts. Adhesive bras are great to wear with garments that are low-cut, backless or have a unique fit.  This type of bra can give you additional cleavage, if you want it, and it covers your nipples. Lingerie lovers need this item to add more versatility to their wardrobes.

5.  Pasties

Like an adhesive bra, pasties keep your nipples from showing through your clothes. These are a go-to for when you want a natural look, yet don’t want to be worried about your nipples peeking. Pasties come in variety of materials and shapes. It’s a great idea to have a couple pairs of pasties. You can keep one in your lingerie drawer and one in your lingerie travel case.

6.  Bra converting clips

A lingerie lover will most likely have a convertible bra. Convertible bras can be converted into a variety of bra styles – like strapless, halter, one-shoulder or crisscross. But, what do you do when your convertible bra is dirty or misplaced, and you need a bra to wear with a racerback top? You use bra converting clips! These clips pull your bra straps together in the center of your back for strap-free shoulders. This is another item that you should keep in your lingerie drawer and in your lingerie travel container.

If you thought you had it all, lingerie lovers, think again! You now have some extra items to add to your drawer. And with these non-lingerie items in your lingerie inventory, you’ll be ready for anything.
