One of our favorite lingerie styles, triangle bras are much more common than you’d think. Their sexy, minimal coverage design can be found in bikini tops and bralettes in fabrics such as sheer mesh and stretch lace. Their soft padded cups often feature removable padded inserts so you can customize the level of coverage. Keep in mind that a triangle bra won’t provide the same support as your favorite t-shirt bra or underwire bra, but what they lack in support they make up in style.

Will a triangle bra give my bust a natural look or a more rounded shape?

Triangle bras are designed to enhance the natural shape of your bust. Their design is closer to that of a bralette than a t-shirt bra.

For a rounded shape, look for a demi bra, t-shirt bra, or padded bra. In most cases, you’ll need a bra with molded cups to get the rounded shape you’re looking for.

Fit tips

When shopping for a triangle bra, keep in mind that the level of support they provide varies depending on their construction.

A triangle bra with a thin band will provide less support than a triangle bra with a wide band – this is because at least 80% of a bra’s support comes from the band. A bra with a wide band with boning is a more supportive option than one without.

Depending on the brand, triangle bras can be found in sizes like L and XL and band/cup sizes too. If you have a full bust, opt for a triangle bra that has cups with underwire in your bra size for the best fit.

Hand washing lingerie is the gentlest option (as it involves the least amount of agitation), but machine washing on the delicate cycle is also an option if you don’t have time to hand wash. If you do machine wash your bras, be sure to hook them first, separate the colors (bright colors may bleed onto your light-colored bras), and sort them into mesh lingerie bags. Panties should also be sorted by color and placed in separate bags so the bra hooks don’t snag delicate underwear.

To wash, use a gentle detergent or laundry soap designed for lingerie and wash them on a delicates cycle in cold water. Once they’re washed, either hang dry them (drape the center front of the bra over the hanger – don’t hang a wet bra by its straps) or lay them flat to dry (away from sunlight which can cause the colors to fade over time) with the cups facing up.

Lastly, be extra careful when storing your lingerie. For molded bras, line them up in a drawer with the cups facing up – one bra in front of the other. Unlined bras, bralettes, and non-molded sports bras can be folded in half and stacked on top of each other to save space. Panties can be folded and sorted by color or style in a lingerie drawer. Babydolls, chemises, and bodysuits can be on hangers in the closet or folded in a drawer. Bustiers and corsets often require special care, so they’re best kept in a drawer away from dust and sunlight.

A breast augmentation is a big decision – one that requires a lot of planning beforehand. If you’re considering a breast augmentation, we encourage you to do as much research as possible before getting the procedure done. Know the risks, get clear on your reasons for wanting it, and above all, make sure that you’re doing it because it’s something that you really want – and it’s not to appease someone else.

When it comes to lingerie, buying bras after a breast augmentation is a different experience than buying bras pre-augmentation. Unfortunately, it’s typically not something that you find out about until you’re in the fitting room trying on a bunch of bras wondering why none of them fit quite right.

Here are three more things to consider when buying bras after a breast augmentation:

It’s important to wait until you receive your doctor’s approval before getting a bra fitting.

As exciting as buying new lingerie seems, don’t try to rush the healing process. Post-surgery, your breasts will be swollen and sore. As they heal, the swelling will go down and they’ll start to settle. No matter what your new size is, your breasts will need plenty of time to heal after surgery. During this time, you’ll be wearing a surgical bra that your doctor recommends.

You might be antsy to see how your new shape looks without a plain surgical bra, but it’s better to be patient. Wait until you get your doctor’s approval before getting a bra fitting and avoid bras with underwire. Your surgical bra is wireless for a good reason (bras with underwire can do more damage than good after surgery), so stick with it until you get the go-ahead from your doctor.

You might have to try on a bunch of bras to find the right styles for you.

As a bra fitter, I’ve helped a lot of people with augmented breasts find bras that fit. Many of them came to me because they couldn’t find the right bra size on their own. All too often, they would tell me that they told their doctor they asked for a certain cup size, but that cup size wasn’t fitting quite right. It’s entirely possible that you’ll end up wearing a different bra size than you expected.

Augmented breasts require special considerations when it comes to fit. They don’t have the same relaxed ease that non-augmented breasts do, so bras tend to fit augmented breasts different than non-augmented breasts. You’re likely going to have a difficult time finding a bra with a center panel (the part of the bra between the cups) that lays flat against your chest – even when the bra has a snug band.

With taller center panels, you may notice the center panel pulling away from your chest (which is normal when your breasts are so firm and full). For the best fit, look for bras with low center panels. Plunge bras are typically a great option for augmented breasts. Avoid full-coverage styles with tall center panels and push-up bras, too.

Low back bustier

Adhesive bras are sold with two separate cups that may or may not attach or fasten between the breasts. Molded adhesive bras are often the most popular because they provide a seamless, rounded shape under clothing and leave the back completely bare. Adhesive bras are a viable option for backless tops and dresses.

Depending on the style you choose, you may even be able to get a little push-up padding for lift, but keep in mind that they are far less supportive than your favorite bra. Adhesive bras lack a band, so their support is limited to what you’re naturally blessed with. If you wear a larger cup size, they won’t provide the lift that you’re used to from your every day bras.

Go braless

Can’t find a bra that will work under your outfit? Consider going braless. Braless can be a good option if you’re worried about ruining the silhouette of the top’s design. If you wear an AA, A, B, or C cup, going braless might seem like a natural option. If you wear a D cup or larger, going braless might not seem like your first choice.

How to go braless if you wear a larger cup size? Look for a top or dress that has a structured bodice so you can get lightweight support for your bust. Empire seams, adjustable straps, and halter necklines may also make it easier to go without a bra. No matter which option you choose, wear it with confidence and let your natural beauty shine though!

Design-wise, plunge bras are typically molded bras with a low center panel. Their design brings breast tissue front and center – making them a stellar choice for v-necklines. Because you’re going against gravity to lift breast up, you’ll need a snug band to keep everything in place.

Plunge bras, like any other bra style, will fit best with a snug band that fits comfortably but feels firm and secure. So even if the band feels snug (but not tight) at first, opt for that size because it will stretch in time depending on how often you wear it (and how well you take care of it).

Demi bras

Demi bras are designed to cover half of the breasts while providing a lifted look. No need to worry about your breast tissue spilling out of the center or having to readjust your breast tissue throughout the day. Demi bras are a universally-flattering style that works for almost every breast shape, so there’s a good chance it will work for you too.

Fit tips

Emma Plunge Molded Bra | Emma Hipster in Nude

Real talk: It can challenging to find a bra that works with a plunging neckline. No matter which style you choose, opt for a snug band that feels secure and stays in place. For a new bra, you’ll want to start the bra on the loosest hook to get the most wear out of the bra. Keep in mind that the placement of the band is crucial to the fit – you don’t want the bra band to ride up your back.

If you choose a plunge bra or push-up bra with padding, the band may move up your back if the band is loose-fitting. For the best fit, your band should be parallel to the floor. You should also be able to fit two fingers between your skin and the band. Any less and the band is too tight; any more and the band is too loose.

Another fit tip: Don’t over tighten the straps. Tightening the straps will not give you the lift you want – that comes from the band and cups working together. Instead, be sure you can fit two fingers between your skin and the strap without the band moving up (adjust the straps accordingly if you need to).

Plunge bras have a tendency to push breast tissue toward the center. If your breast tissue is full at the bottom, you want feel like it’s trying to escape through the center of the bra. In some cases, a plunge bra may not work for you – and that’s totally ok. If you can make it work or only need to wear the bra for a few hours, consider using double sided fashion tape to avoid a possible wardrobe malfunction.

Demi bras are a great option for a number of breast shapes. Keep in mind the same principles for fit – snug band, breast tissue contained within the wires of the cups, and adjusted straps – and you’ll be good to go!

What’s the best bra to wear under a t-shirt?

A seamless bra in a shade that closely matches your skin tone. If you’re drawn to beautiful bold colors, opt instead for a neutral hue under a white t-shirt or anything sheer. The neutral shade will blend better with your skin tone and keep the attention on your outfit – not your bra.

Molded bras

When it comes to the bra’s design, molded bras are a natural fit for t-shirts because of the smooth, rounded shape that they create. Molded bras can also even out asymmetrical breasts, add volume with push-up padding, provide coverage to keep nipples from showing through, and lift, shape, and center breast tissue, too. Molded bras come in a variety of styles – push-up bras, demi bras, plunge bras, and longline bras – to name a few.

Non-molded bras

If molded bras aren’t your thing, non-molded bras are another great choice. For a hidden look under t-shirts, choose a lightly lined bralette or lightly lined bra with seamless cups. Avoid three-part cup bras and anything embellished or embroidered because the seams can show under t-shirts. And don’t forget to bring a t-shirt with you when you’re trying on bras in the fitting room so you can see how they look!

Fit tips

With t-shirt bras, your breast tissue should be completely encapsulated within the cups. If you choose a wired bra, you don’t want the wire resting on your boobs (all of your breast tissue should be in front of the wire.) Wireless bras are more forgiving in terms of fit – just be sure your breast tissue isn’t spilling over, under, or outside of the cups.

If you’re full-busted, check to make sure that the bra isn’t giving you a double boob or quad boob effect. Plunge bras and push-up bras can definitely cause this. If that’s the case for you, size up in the cup and see if that fixes the fit. If not, you may need a different style.

People with pendulous breasts that are shallow on top and full on bottom may have trouble filling the cups completely in a full coverage t-shirt bra. If this is the case, opt for a demi bra or balconette bra instead to get the best fit.
