uncomfortable bra

Buying new lingerie is exciting. Who doesn’t love taking home a new bra or lingerie set? Of course, we’ve all had a moment where we felt like the lingerie fit differently when we got it home. Maybe it’s the lighting or the way it’s fitting you, but you just know something is off. You don’t remember it fitting like that at the store.

Wondering why your new bras are feeling uncomfortable? It could be due to a few different reasons. Read on for some of the most common causes.

The bra band is tighter than you’re used to

Has it been a while since you last bought new bras? When you become accustomed to a loose-fitting band, a snug band can feel tighter than normal. A change in your bra size (like buying a smaller bra band) has a direct impact on the fit. In fact, it might take a week or two for you to get used to the snug band of your new bra.

If it’s not the bra size, it could be the fabric. For example, a power mesh band has less stretch than an unlined stretch lace band. As a result, the power mesh band will likely fit snugger and retain its shape much better than the lace band.

You bought the wrong size

Is the underwire digging into your sides? Is your breast tissue spilling over the cups? You might be wearing the wrong size. When it comes to bra sizing, mistakes can happen. Maybe your bra fitter measured you incorrectly or sent you home with the wrong size. Or maybe you got a bra fitting while you were on your period and now you need a smaller cup size. It happens.

A lot of bra fitting has to do with personal comfort preferences. Some women prefer a snug band while others choose their bra sister size with the bigger band because a tight band feels uncomfortable to them. A bra fitter doesn’t know how you feel in your bra – she can only look at the bra and tell you if it fits or not. You have to go with what feels right to you. Remember: Your bra size is more of a guide, so ignore the size on the tag and always pick what feels the best.

It’s not the right style for you

Another indicator that the bra isn’t right for you? You find that the fabric or underwire irritates your skin after wearing it for longer than a few minutes. You didn’t notice it when you tried it on in the store, but you definitely notice it now. Or maybe you’re sitting down and you can feel the bra band digging into your skin. If that’s the case, a bandless bra could be a better option. Another solution could be exchanging the bra for a completely different style or opting for a wireless bra instead.

Wearing a bra shouldn’t cause you pain or discomfort. If you’re unhappy with your bras for any reason, it’s best to contact the store directly and see about a return or exchange. You deserve beautiful bras that fit well and feel amazing. Plus, your health and comfort are way too important. Don’t ever compromise!
