what is a plunge bra

Looking for a lingerie review or more information on a product before purchasing? You’ve come to the right place.

In this series, we’re sharing our favorite styles (and a few reasons why you’re sure to love them too.)

The Emma Plunge Molded Bra is a seamless contour bra with a plunging neckline. It features foam molded cups with a microfiber overlay and a microfiber band. The short center panel and low plunging neckline lift, center, and shape breast tissue – no push-up padding needed.

The enclosed top and bottom band elastics provide comfort. The seamless cups virtually disappear under t-shirts and form-fitting tops and dresses. This style can also be worn in an X-back style by crisscrossing the detachable straps in back.

The Emma Plunge Molded Bra is a supportive plunge bra designed to be worn under your favorite t-shirts. The low plunging fit lifts and enhances breast tissue without the use of push-up padding – making the cups lighter than they would be in a push-up bra.

If you’re looking for a supportive contour bra that you can wear under low cut and v-neck tops and dresses, this could be your new favorite. This style is reminiscent of the Jeanie Plunge Molded Bra and Casey Plunge Molded Bra.

A few fit tips: When trying on bras, be sure to scoop all of your breast tissue into the cups to get the best fit. Plunge bras are constructed to bring breast tissue to the center of the bra for maximum cleavage. If you’re wearing the right size and your breast tissue is spilling out of the cups near the center panel (or if you’re experiencing gaping at the top of the cups), a demi bra may work better for you. With any bra, your breast shape will help determine if it’s a good style for you or not.

The plunging design of the Emma Plunge Molded Bra combined with its seamless cups makes this chic style a lingerie wardrobe essential. It’s perfect for wearing under fitted tops, low cut necklines, clingy fabrics, and form-fitting dresses. This supportive style will keep your bust lifted and you won’t have to worry about it showing under your clothing. Pair with a fitted top or sweater and you’re good to go!

The Emma Hipster is a hipster cut panty in all-over microfiber. This style has the perfect amount of stretch – it will cling to curves without digging in or riding up. The smooth microfiber fabric makes this an ideal style to wear under loose fitting skirts and dresses and the hipster fit provides more coverage than a bikini or thong panty. Overall, it’s a comfortable option to wear at home or out with a favorite outfit.

Care

 washing bras

Proper care is crucial if you want your lingerie to last. We recommend washing bras and panties in cold water and avoiding the dryer at all costs. Hand washing lingerie is the gentlest option (as it involves the least amount of agitation), but machine washing on the delicate cycle is also an option if you don’t have time to hand wash. If you do machine wash your bras, be sure to hook them first, separate the colors (bright colors may bleed onto your light-colored bras), and sort them into mesh lingerie bags. Panties should also be sorted by color and placed in separate bags so the bra hooks don’t snag delicate underwear.

To wash, use a gentle detergent or laundry soap designed for lingerie and wash them on a delicates cycle in cold water. Once they’re washed, either hang dry them (drape the center front of the bra over the hanger – don’t hang a wet bra by its straps) or lay them flat to dry (away from sunlight which can cause the colors to fade over time) with the cups facing up.

Lastly, be extra careful when storing your bras. For molded bras, line them up in a drawer with the cups facing up – one bra in front of the other. Unlined bras, bralettes, and non-molded sports bras can be folded in half and stacked on top of each other to save space. Panties can be folded and sorted by color or style in a lingerie drawer.

One last thing…

Education is a big part of my job as a bra fitter. I feel fortunate to be partnering with Parfait on creating lingerie-related content with the goal of helping readers make educated and empowered shopping decisions. There is so much to bra fitting that we can’t cover in a single blog post, so the goal since the very beginning of the blog has been to tackle it one article at a time.

If you have any questions about any of these products or if you would like us to do a review on one we haven’t done yet, let us know in the comments below.
