how to boost confidence

We all have off days. Sometimes you wake up, and you’re just not feeling yourself. Whether it’s an ugly pimple or lack of sleep – little things can cause our confidence to fluctuate. But, what if there was something you could do to boost your confidence on those days? There is! In fact, there are several things that will do the trick.

Here are six simple ways to immediately give your confidence a boost:

1.  Get a little more dressed up than normal.

How you dress affects how you feel. Wear old jeans and a baggy t-shirt, and you’ll likely feel a little lethargic. But, you’ll walk a little taller when you put on your favorite blouse and best pair of jeans.

Get a little more dressed up than normal when your confidence needs a boost. That could mean wearing heels, a dress or even extra accessories. Just wear an outfit that makes you feel gorgeous and fierce. Your confidence will follow suit.

2.  Do the primping.

Taking a little extra time to primp will make you feel polished. Simple things like wearing lipstick or fixing your hair your favorite way makes you feel and look put together. When you feel put together, you hold yourself differently. Because you feel confident.

The next time you’re feeling down and want to roll out of bed and go, don’t. Make a point to do some primping, and your confidence will thank you.

3.  Have positive thoughts.

Your thoughts affect your attitude. Have negative thoughts, and you’ll be in a fowl mood. Have positive thoughts, and you’ll feel much more cheerful.

Give yourself a pep talk, take note of your positive attributes and have only positive thoughts. Your confidence level is mind over matter.

4.  Say “hello” to people.

Saying “hello” to people is so much more than a greeting. It’s you seeing people. It’s you being seen. It’s you boosting others’ moods, and in turn, boosting your own. Say “good morning” to people – whether you’re dropping the kids off at school or grabbing a coffee. Talking to people inevitably puts a smile on your face. The more you smile, the happier and more confident you feel.

5.  Make healthy food choices.

The food choices you make also affect your mood and overall confidence. Consider how you feel after eating a cheeseburger and fries. Your belly likely feels bloated and overly full, so you feel a little sluggish. This type of feeling doesn’t make you walk into a room with your head held high. Now, consider how you feel after eating something lighter – like a chicken salad or a wrap. You’re comfortably full, and the feeling in your gut doesn’t weigh you down. (Pun not intended.)

It’s normal to want to reach for foods that are unhealthy when your confidence is lacking. But, those foods will plummet it even more. Make healthier choices – especially on those days – and feel your confidence increase.

6.  Do something you love.

It’s important to do something you love if you’re not feeling great about yourself. The alternative is to sit around feeling sorry for yourself, and that doesn’t do any good. So, make a point to spend a small amount of time doing something you enjoy. It could be going for a walk, sitting in a coffee shop or taking a bath. Partaking in a favorite activity makes you feel like yourself, which puts some pep in your step.

It’s totally normal to not feel yourself 100 percent every day. But don’t let that mindset dampen your day. Take control by doing small things to boost your confidence. Your entire day will be brightened, and you’ll feel empowered.
