self love quotes

Every single woman out there deserves, nay needs to love herself. And we all have days that are harder than others. If you’ve been neglecting your own well-being and emotions for far too long, it’s time to do something about it once and for all. Here are eight tips that will help you do just that.

1.  Banish negative people from your life

Negative people are a drain on your time and emotions. There. I said it. Someone had to. We all have those friends who make us feel low, rather than lifting us up. Whether it’s a toxic girlfriend who is always pointing out your flaws or a bestie who moans all the time about her life without ever asking about yours, these people are not adding anything to your life. Worse still, they might be taking away from it. If there are people in your life that do you more harm than good, they have to go. Period.

2.  Be grateful for all the things you have

There are times when we get into a spiral of ‘what ifs’ and ‘why nots’. While you may wish that things were perfect in your life, your negativity could mean you’re missing how great they actually are. We should all be grateful for the blessings we have, whether they are big or small. Each day, make time to consciously think about all the things that are going well for you right now. You may have a loving family, great friends, or a supportive partner. Be grateful and count yourself lucky.

3.  Make time to practice mindfulness

Mindfulness isn’t just the latest psychology buzzword, it’s something that really works. At times, it’s only natural that you may get stressed out or feel overwhelmed with your life. It happens. We’re all busy people, after all. Taking the time to recharge your batteries now and then can only be a positive thing. It means that you get a chance to think about things and enjoy some time out. Needless to say, people practice the art in a variety of different ways. You could, for example, use an app or watch YouTube videos about it to get you started. Go ahead — try it now.

4.  Silence your inner critic

No offense, but sometimes your inner critic can be a real buzz-kill. There’s nothing worse than that tiny, niggling voice telling you how truly terrible you are all the time. Sure, we all fall into the trap of criticizing ourselves now and then, but that certainly does not make it right. The moment you notice yourself thinking negative thoughts about yourself, you need to quit it. Replace them with a positive spin. So, rather than thinking about how you wish you had another job, start getting excited about a new role that you may take on.

5.  Learn how and when to say no

Psst… ‘No’ is not a dirty word. You can say it whenever and wherever you want. While you might think that you need to please the people around you all of the time, that’s simply not the case. For the sake of your own well-being, you need to learn to say no now and then. For example, if you have a friend who is asking for too much of your time or a family member who asks for endless favors, it’s okay to have a cut-off point. Giving yourself permission to put you first isn’t only an act of self-love, it’s essential to your happiness on a daily basis.

6.  Care for your own well-being

Your general health and well-being is your responsibility. If you don’t care for it, no one else out there will. That’s a fact. So, you need to start looking after everything from what you eat and how active you are to how much you time you get each day. Ensuring that you have all you need on a day-to-day basis might sound like a chore, but it’s sure to make you feel a hundred times better and happier. At the end of the day, what could be more positive and self-loving than that?

7.  Don’t take on someone else’s emotions

Emotions are highly contagious things. If you are around someone who is always down and miserable, you will start to feel the same soon enough. It has to stop. You need to protect your own emotional well-being. The moment you find yourself taking on someone’s negative emotions, you need to exit the situation. And, if you can’t do that, you need to stay strong and remind yourself that their feelings are just that — theirs.

8.  Empower the women around you

Finally, you must never make the mistake of thinking that ‘self-love’ has to be all about you. If you want to feel your very best, you must also support and even empower the women who are closest to you. When you’re showing these ladies how very special, strong, and brilliant you think they are, that will reflect back onto you. The next time you’re out with a group of friends or even just one special friend, take a moment to think about how you’re treating them. Could you up your game here? If so, you know what to do.
