Our bras, it seems, can be friend or foe. When they fit properly, they can do everything from make workouts more comfortable, a certain blouse looks better around the bust, enhance your cleavage, take some strain off your back and shoulders, and even making your breasts look more even. However, when they don’t fit well, they can be quite the nuisance. You should never have to deal with straps that continually fall down or underwire that pokes you.

That’s why we rounded up some of the most common bra fitting problems — as well as some suggested solutions.

Cups with extra room

bra cup too big

If you aren’t filling out your cups, the most obvious solution would be to opt for a smaller cup size. However, this issue may also be an indicator that you need to tighten your straps, so definitely try that first. It’s also worth noting the bra style. If you have a small bust, a demi cup bra or balconette bra may be a better option than a full cup bra, which may simply offer too much coverage.

Gaping cups

bra cup gap

First thing’s first: Try tightening your straps or going down a cup size to see if any gaping or puckering in the cups goes away. If that doesn’t work, you may want to explore some different bra styles. Asymmetric, slender, and teardrop breast shapes tend to deal with this problem more often since the majority of the breast tissue (and thus, the weight) is at the bottom of the cup, leaving extra room at the top. Try a plunge bra or push-up bra, as the cups are angled, minimizing the chance of gaping.

Back bulges

how to get rid of fat on back under bra

Last but certainly not least, an all-too-common problem is the dreaded back bulge or “back fat” caused by an ill-fitting bra. One easy fix may be to simply go up a band size, as a band that’s too tight will squeeze the skin, or up in the cup size, as a cup that is too small will comprise the fit of the entire bra (even if you’re wearing the right band size for you). Another strategy to consider is seeking out bras with wide bands, which can offer extra support and prevent any potential bulge. You could also try a longline bra, which offers supreme smoothing benefits.

Straps falling off your shoulders

why does my bra strap fall off my shoulder

There’s nothing worse than constantly having to pull your straps back up. Of course, tightening them might do the trick in terms of resolving this pesky problem, but if they’re still falling down, you may want to try a different style. Specifically, you should seek out a bra style featuring straps that are set closer inward, as they’re far less likely to fall off your shoulders. Note that a racerback bra can also help you to avoid this problem. Certain styles (like balconette bras) that tend to have wider set straps are more likely to cause strap slippage if your shoulders are narrow or sloping.

Straps digging into your shoulders

bra straps digging into shoulders

Whether you notice indentation marks on your shoulders or the straps simply aren’t comfortable, there are several ways to prevent them from digging in. First, you could try a smaller band size. This pesky problem may be a sign that your straps are doing a lot of the work in regards to support, while the band should actually be doing the heavy lifting. By going down a band size, you can ensure it’s doing its job (instead of forcing the straps to pick up the slack, thus putting more strain on your shoulders). Don’t forget that wearing a smaller size means you may very well have to then go for a larger cup size (see: bra sister sizes).

A rising bra band

how tight should bra band be

The band on your bra should lie in an even horizontal line all the way around your rib cage. If it’s rising up in the back, you likely need a smaller band size. Or, if it’s an old bra, it might simply be time to replace it — bras gradually lose their elasticity and stretch out over time with more and more wear.

Of course, one of the best ways to effectively solve any bra fit problems is to get assessed by a professional bra fitter, which we recommend every 6 months at the very least. An expert may be able to quickly identify the source of the problems you’re dealing with, as well as provide recommendations for specific bra styles that will work well for your breast shape and size.

Happy bra shopping!

One of the first things we do when we’re getting ready for the day is put on a bra. Many of us wear them all day, every day, and some of us even wear them through the night. So needless to say, bras play a big part in our lives. And when they don’t fit properly, they can be downright uncomfortable or unsightly. So, how do you know whether you’re wearing the right size?

Obviously, if the underwire poking into you or your bra is otherwise causing you any pain or discomfort, you need to get fitted. Here are some other ill-fitting bra symptoms that can help you determine whether you’re wearing undergarments that are too small or large:

Your bra band rides up in back.

Take a peek over your shoulder in a mirror. Does the band on your bra lay horizontal at an even height all the way across your back? A band that rides up at all is a telltale sign of an ill-fitting bra. And it’s also one you should definitely pay attention to, as the band provides the vast majority of the support. Make sure, of course, that you haven’t simply adjusted the straps too tightly (which can cause the band to ride up). If it still isn’t laying at an even level, then you definitely need a different band size.

Your bra straps won’t stay up.

It goes without saying that this symptom is a nuisance — after all, who has time to keep pulling their straps back onto their shoulders? But it’s also an issue because it indicates that you’re not getting adequate support from the straps, either. If they’re still slipping even after tightening them a tad, you may need to try a smaller band size (or a different bra style altogether).

You have shoulder indentations.

If you have the opposite problem and your straps stay up but they’re digging into your shoulders, then you’re likely not wearing the right size, either. This suggests that your straps are taking most of the weight of your breasts, meaning the band isn’t providing sufficient support. A smaller band size might do the trick, taking some of the slack back and relieving the strain on your shoulders.

Your breast tissue is spilling over the bra cups.

It doesn’t matter if you’re wearing a push-up bra or a demi-cup bra aimed at creating cleavage. Spilling out of the top, sides, or bottom of the cups are all signals that you need a different bra size — most likely a larger cup or smaller band. A bra that fits flawlessly will remain flush against your body rather than create any dreaded quad-boob effect, adequately encapsulating the breast tissue. In fact, it will keep your breasts contained even when you raise your arms in the air (speaking of which, is a phenomenal test to put your bra through to make sure it fits).

The cups are wrinkly.

If you notice that the fabric on the cups is dimpling or wrinkling at all, then you may very well need to go down in cup size. Properly fitting cups shouldn’t bunch whatsoever — they should lay smooth so as not to show under your form-fitting tops and dresses.

Your bra is giving you a back bulge.

Sure, some of us have some back fat, but when your bra is creating the appearance of more than is actually there by digging into or squeezing your skin, then you may need a larger band size.

The center of the bra doesn’t lay flat against your chest.

If that panel in the middle of the cups (called the center gore) is lifting off your chest, you certainly aren’t wearing the correct bra size. That piece should lay flat against your sternum, even when you lift your arms up.

And the final sign that you’re wearing the wrong size? If you figured it out on your own. Don’t be shy about getting some professional assistance in this matter — these experts can ensure you know your accurate size, thus helping to prevent any of the aforementioned pesky problems and furthermore, making bra shopping a breeze.

Is it time to give your lingerie collection an update? Maybe your bras and panties are showing signs of wear and tear. Or, maybe you just don’t love the way your intimates fit and look on you anymore. Updating your lingerie with new bras and panties is empowering. You get a fresh start with items you love and fit you well.

If you’re ready to update your collection, you’re in the right place! Here are the types of bras and panties you need in your lingerie drawer:

Bras

Two or three every day bras

Every woman should own two or three every day bras. This ensures you can rotate the bras for proper care. If you have only one go-to bra, you risk wearing it out and shortening its lifespan. Wearing it for too many days between washes can also deteriorate the bra’s materials and break out your skin.

There many bra styles that are perfect for serving as your go-to. The Tess Unlined Wire Bra gives you a lift while accenting your natural shape since it’s unlined. A bra that’s seamless under your tops is also a great choice. The Lynn T-Shirt Bra is lightly padded with minimal details, making it an everyday staple.

A convertible bra

A convertible bra adds versatility to your wardrobe because it can be worn several ways. Some convertible bras can be worn up to five ways. The Jeanie Contour Bra, for example, has straps that can be worn as one shoulder, halter, criss-cross, strapless and regularly.

A convertible bra is a must for your lingerie collection update. You virtually get five bras in one, omitting the need to buy various styles.

A sports bra

You’ll need a good sports bra in your new lingerie drawer as well. How many sports bras you need depends on how vigorous your exercise regimen is and how often you wear sports bras.

A bralette

A bralette is a feminine accessory that can spice up your wardrobe. Many are unlined and wire-free. This makes them comfortable, but not super supportive. They’re a good fit for women with smaller breasts.

Panties

Seamless panties

A lingerie drawer is not complete without seamless panties. Not only is this panty style ultra-comfortable, but it helps omit panty lines. The Jeanie High-Cut Brief is a full-coverage panty that offers a smooth and sleek silhouette.

Every day panties

You have some seamless panties and thongs, so now it’s time to find panties you’ll love to wear every day. (If you prefer seamless styles or thongs for every day wear, then just stock up on those styles!) However, if you like a little more design or coverage to your underwear, we have some suggestions for you.

The Lydie Bikini Panty features smooth microfiber on the back and front with geometric lace detailing on the hips. Or, perhaps you’ll like the Casey Boyshort Panty. With a smooth band and flirty, sheer lace, this style is comfortable and feminine.

A matching bra and panty set

A matching bra and panty set boosts your confidence and makes you feel femininely fierce. So, every lingerie drawer needs at least one – especially the Charlotte Padded Bra and Highwaist Brief. This matching set features sexy contrasts of matte and satin, and the panty comes in a bikini or a high-waist brief.

What comes to mind when you think of bridal lingerie? Probably the color white! White is the traditional color of wedding gowns and bridal lingerie. However, many women don’t want to wear a white dress, so they opt for an alternative color, like blush or ivory. So, can brides wear non-white lingerie and consider it bridal lingerie? Absolutely! As long as the lingerie makes you feel beautiful and bridal, it can serve as bridal lingerie.

Tips For Selecting Your Bridal Lingerie

The color of bridal lingerie is not necessarily what gives it a bridal feel. Instead, the bridal elements are in the small details – lace, embellishments and style. Here are some tips for selecting non-white bridal lingerie.

1.  Choose something that makes you feel beautiful.

Lingerie should make you feel beautiful – regardless of the occasion. It’s okay to stick to a style that you know will make you feel comfortable. If you want to try a new style, go for it! Just make sure the lingerie makes you feel confident.

2.  Opt for light-colored lingerie.

Light-colored lingerie pieces are perfect for brides. Think of pastels and neutral colors, like blush, peach, ivory, gold, silver or light blue. These colors are dainty and feminine and are great alternatives to white.

3.  Select lingerie that matches your wedding colors.

Another way to select non-white bridal lingerie is to opt for lingerie that matches your wedding color scheme. This works regardless of your wedding colors – yellow, mint green, royal blue, fuchsia or purple. After all, how could you not feel like a bride when your intimates coordinate with your wedding?

4.  Look for the small details.

Remember to pay attention to the small details when shopping for bridal lingerie. Sometimes it’s lace detailing, meshing, diamond accents or a specific fit that makes lingerie look bridal. Longline bra styles are timeless and beautiful as bridal lingerie. And, small blue accents make lingerie look bridal, too. For example, a blush thong may have metallic, light blue polka dots on it.

Every woman is different, so it’s essential you choose wedding lingerie based on how you feel in it.

The right bra is something every woman is after. It’s the missing link in boosting your confidence and your comfort level. So often, you go bra shopping, and come home with a bra that you think is perfect. You realize it’s not so perfect after wearing a few times. But, you’ve already spent the money and worn it. You either accept that you’re stuck with it, or you try your luck again at finding the right bra.

Of course, finding the right bra depends on several things.  Let’s walk through the steps of finding the right bra for you.

1.  Have an idea of what you want.

The first step in finding the perfect bra is to have an idea of what you want. It’s great if you’re open to various bra styles, but it’s helpful to know what you’re after. Do you want to lift your bust? Do you want to add volume? Are you looking for something to minimize your bustline?

Having an idea of what you’re looking for in a bra will save you time and frustration while bra shopping. You’ll be able to only try on bras that can give you what you want.

2.  Get a bra fitting.

You should get a bra fitting before you start trying on bras. Many lingerie stores offer bra fittings at no cost – whether you buy a bra there or not. One of the store’s associates will measure your bust to determine your measurements. This omits the guesswork in finding the right bra size. You have your measurements, and you and the lingerie associate know exactly where to start. Getting a bra fitting is the only way to determine your exact bra size. And the right bra size is the one of greatest factors in finding the right bra for you.

3.  Try on various styles.

You know what you’re looking for in a bra, and you now have your size. The next step is to try on various bra styles. Let’s say you’re wanting a bra that will add volume to your bust line. There are lots of bra styles for that, including push-ups and demis. So, it’s best to try on multiple styles to see what you like best.

It’s also a good idea to try on bras at different stores. Brands design bras differently. A 34B in one brand may fit differently than a 34B in another brand. Test out bras from multiple brands to see what feels good and natural.

4.  Make sure the bra fits.

Do a quick check to ensure the bra truly fits before scurrying out of the fitting room. The cups should fit your breasts snugly, but your breast tissue shouldn’t spill out of the cups. Move around and make sure the cups remain in place. You should be able to wear the bra comfortably fastened on the first or second hook. The bra band and bra straps shouldn’t dig into your skin. The underwire shouldn’t feel like it’s poking into you. The underwire and bottom of the bra shouldn’t rest at all on your boobs. Instead, the bottom of the bra should rest on your ribcage. Your bra is a good fit if it passes all these little tests.

It’s important to allot yourself plenty of time – a few hours – when bra shopping. You want to ensure you’re not rushed when trying on bras. And you certainly don’t want to skip important steps because you’re in a hurry. Take your time, and you’ll come home satisfied every time.

Is there something you don’t like about your boobs? The truth is that many of us may dislike something about our bustline. We may even think that some of aspects of our boobs are abnormal. But, there’s no such thing as perfect breasts. That’s because they’re all imperfectly perfect.

Here are six common breast imperfections that are totally normal:

1.  Asymmetrical boobs

It may be tricky to go bra shopping for uneven boobs, but even boobs are not odd. Asymmetrical breasts affect more than half of the female population. So, you’re not alone, sister! Health professionals aren’t certain what leads to asymmetrical breasts. However, some potential causes could be weight loss or gain, hormonal imbalances, menopause or simply the anatomy of your body.

2.  Nipples that face different directions

Don’t be concerned if your nipples face different directions. The direction of your nipples depends on the placement of your areolae. If your areolae are further down on your breasts, the nipples may face downward. On the contrast, nipples may face upward if the areolae are higher up. Either circumstance is fine, and it’s okay if the nipples face slightly different directions. Even on the same woman, two breasts aren’t the exact same.

3.  Different breast shapes

There’s no breast shape that’s considered “normal” because they’re all normal. Some boobs sag more than others. Some are fuller on top, while others are fuller on the bottom. The shape of your breast is highly dependent on your genetics. Your genes affect your hormone levels, and those hormone levels decide your breast density. Other factors, like weight gain or loss, breastfeeding or menopause, also affect your breasts’ shape.

4.  Small and Large Areolae

Large breasts with small areolae, small breasts with big areolae – they’re all perfectly ordinary. It’s also not odd to have areolae that are different sizes or shapes. The size of your areolae is, again, dependent on your genetics.

5.  Stray hairs

You may not like the stray hairs found around your areolae, but many women have them. It’s okay to remove the hairs. Personally, I tweeze or shave mine. However, it’s suggested to use scissors to remove nipple hairs. Experts say plucking or shaving can cause irritation.

6.  Stretch marks

You likely won’t find boobs without stretch marks. The stretch marks appear after a woman’s breasts have changed sizes. The breast becomes larger, stretching the skin. You see stretch marks when the breast decreases in size. A change in breast size can occur from natural growth, pregnancy, menopause or weight gain and loss.

No two women’s breasts are the same. The small differences between breasts may seem like imperfections, but they are not. The differences are simply caused by the genetic makeup variations within each of us. Finding the right bra can help if you don’t like an element of your breasts. Whether you want to lift, cover nipples or add volume, a bra is your secret weapon.

It’s normal to be a little hesitant about getting a bra fitting. Whether you’ve had three bra fittings or none – the situation can make some women uncomfortable. It could be because there’s a stranger in your personal space. Or that you don’t know what to expect at a bra fitting. Or, maybe you just feel a little embarrassed. All are perfectly normal ways to feel about getting a bra fitting. However, I guarantee you’ll feel at ease (and happy you’re there) once your fitting begins!

Need a little boost to get a fitting? Here are five reasons why you shouldn’t be shy about bra fittings:

1.  It’s a judge-free zone.

Bra fittings are done in completely judge-free zone. It’s just you and the lingerie associate behind a closed curtain. And, the associate is not judging you. In fact, she wants you to feel secure and comfortable. That’s why she’ll carefully take your measurements and provide you a variety of bra styles to try. Not feeling great about your body? That’s okay! Have some lingerie questions you want to ask? Ask away! The lingerie associate is on your team – she’s not there to judge you.

2.  Bra fitters are professionals.

A store’s lingerie associates are professionals. This means each bra fitter is a pro at what she does. She knows the ins and outs of the lingerie industry. She knows which tweaks to make in style or size to fit the right fit. She knows how to tell if a bra truly fits you. The bra fitter working with you is there to help. Trust in her and let her work her magic.

3.  Bra fitters have seen it all.

We all have things that we’d rather people not see – back acne, extra weight, stretch marks, scars, etc. Bra fitters have fitted numerous women for bras, and they’ve seen it all. Again, the associate isn’t there to judge you or hone in on your insecurities. She’s there to boost your confidence by finding you a bra you’ll love to wear.

4.  It’s the best way to find a bra that fits.

A bra fitting is the best first step in finding a bra that really fits. You know, a bra that doesn’t hurt, require adjustments or make you wonder why you even wear it. Yeah, that bra exists! But, you need a bra fitting to determine your bra size, so you can find it. Don’t skip the fitting and opt for the trial and error method of trying on bras. That route can be tedious and frustrating. You’ll likely end up wasting money on a bra that’s not your size.

5.  It’s not as awkward as you may think.

I know a bra fitting may sound awkward. Someone is taking measurements of your bust, and they’re a little too close for your liking. However, the bra fitting isn’t as daunting as it may seem.

What Is A Bra Fitting Like?

The bra fitter may or may not ask you to remove your shirt for the fitting. (The reason she’ll ask you to remove it is so extra material doesn’t skew your measurements.) Then, the measurements are done pretty quickly. (Again, she’s a professional, so she knows how to get in there and get it done.) After that, she’ll bring you bras and give you privacy to try them on. So, be sure to speak up if you have a question about the fit or want to her take a look. She’ll likely only come back into your fitting room if you request it.

Don’t let nerves stop you from getting a bra fitting. Every woman needs bra fittings to ensure she buys the right size and fit. Walk in confidently, and remember that the process will make you feel fabulous and comfortable in your bra.

Planning on a romantic evening in while on vacation? Then you have to bring the Sandrine plunge bra and panty set! (Grab the wild pink version for color that screams “spring!”) The Sandrine Plunge Longline Bra gives you a beautiful lift and looks luxurious. How To Pack Bras

Instead of throwing your bras on top of your other clothes, we recommend rolling bralettes, sports bras, and shelf bras in your suitcase. For molded cup bras, be sure to fasten the hook and eye closures and stuff the cups with socks and underwear so they don’t get crushed. If you’re bringing multiple molded cup bras, we suggest packing them together with the cups inside of each other. Non-molded underwire bras can be packed with the cups folded. If you’ll be traveling for more than a week, don’t forget to bring your laundry essentials with you – a mesh lingerie bag and a 3.4 fl. oz or less bottle of lingerie detergent (opt for a no-rinse wash like Eucalan if you won’t have access to a washing machine).
