Bra Shopping Guide: Bra Styles You Need To Know Part 4
How well do you know your bra styles? We’re covering your favorites and more in our multi-part guide.
Read on for part four of our simple guide with two more bra styles you need to know – high neck bras and molded balconette bras.
1. High Neck Bra
What is a high neck bra?
High neck bras typically feature a high neckline with straps that fasten or tie at the back of the neck. These bras can come in a wide range of cup styles – molded, wireless, soft cup, etc. Underwire isn’t necessary with a high neck bra, though it can make a supportive fit possible for large cup sizes.
What’s the difference between high neck bras and halter bras?
Though both styles tie or hook in the same place, high neck bras and halter bras have a few key differences. High neck bras typically have a full coverage overlay of a sheer fabric such as stretch mesh or lace over cleavage. Halter bras are typically designed with a plunging fit and a low center gore and leave little to the imagination. Both bras can be supportive – provided the band is snug and the woman wearing it isn’t relying on the straps or ties for support.
High neck bras are actually great plus size bras as they can be designed with flattering demi or balconette cups that show off cleavage under the sexy overlayer.
Why wear high neck bras?
High neck bras work well under high neck tops and dresses as well as low-cut tops and dresses (making plunging necklines less revealing). They’re often cut in closer to the body on the sides – preventing the bra from rubbing against sensitive underarm skin. High neck bras flatter a multitude of breast shapes and are a gorgeous addition to any lingerie wardrobe.

2. Molded Balconette Bra
What is a molded balconette bra?
Molded balconette bras typically feature molded balconette cups for a rounded breast shape. Molded bra cups are seamless and designed to be worn under t-shirts and fitted clothing. Balconette cups are cut lower for a sexier fit – making them a great choice for round breasts, teardrop, asymmetric, and wide set. Balconette bras can be tricky to get right as it’s important for the center gore to tact to the sternum – which is difficult to achieve with full busts and wide set busts.
Why wear molded balconette bras?
We love molded balconette bras because they provide a seamless look under clothing – making them one of the most versatile and desirable bra styles.

Molded balconette bras can be worn with almost any neckline. Pair with your favorite t-shirt, sweater dress, or fitted top and you’re good to go!
