perfect bra

Bra shopping can feel daunting. With so many bras, sizes and styles, where do you start? Well, you start with a bra fitting to ensure you know your correct bra size. From there, it’s helpful to know the signs that a bra is the right fit, so your bra shopping trip is easy and efficient.

Ready to make your next bra shopping experience a success? Here are 8 key features of the perfect-fitting bra:

1.  The bra stays in place.

A perfect-fitting bra will stay in its place as you move around. When trying on new bras, take time to lean over, sit down, etc. to ensure the bra continues to cup your breasts firmly as you move. If you need to adjust your breasts into the bra after moving, it’s not the right fit.

2.  The bra straps don’t fall off or dig into your shoulders.

The bra straps should rest firmly on your shoulders, without falling off or digging into your shoulders. Of course, you can tighten the straps to help them stay in place. However, if you start get a gap in the bra cup after tightening the straps, it’s not the right size bra. If the straps dig into your shoulders, you likely need a bigger size.

3.  The band doesn’t ride up on your back.

The bra band will rest evenly on your back as this provides utmost support. A bra band that stays in place helps carry the weight of your bust. The bra isn’t a good fit if the bra band rides up on your back, as it’s no longer being supportive.

4.  There are no gaps in the cups.

The right bra will leave no extra space in the bra cups. Whether you’re sitting, standing or bending over, there shouldn’t be a gap between your boobs and the cups.

5.  It fits comfortably on the tightest hooks.

Ideally, you should be able to wear the bra fastened comfortably on the last or second hook. The reason for this is because, as the bra ages and stretches, you can fasten it on tighter hooks for a better fit. Buying a bra that fits well on the tightest hook doesn’t leave you any room to tighten it as it gets worn out.

6.  The bra’s underwire doesn’t rest on top your boobs.

The center panel of the bra between the cups (also called the gore) should rest on your chest between your boobs – not on your boobs. The bra’s band or underwire should rest comfortable on your breast bone – again, not on your boobs.

7.  Your boobs don’t spill over the cups.

A bra that fits perfectly won’t force your breast tissue to spill over the cups. A little side boob is normal, especially if you have bigger boobs or aren’t wearing a full-cup bra. However, bulging out of the cups from any side is a sign the bra is too small.

8.  The bra is comfortable.

Most importantly, a perfect-fitting bra will always be comfortable. You won’t have shoulder, back or breast pain because the bra fits and hugs your body in the right places. If you love the bra, but it just seems a little off, it probably is. Try a different size or maybe even a different bra style to find the most comfortable fit.
