red and black bra - 5 Reasons To Consider Red Lingerie

There’s no denying that red is a bold, eye-catching color. When someone walks down the street in red, you take notice. And when you walk into a room in a red dress, heads turn. Consider this: So many symbols and objects that represent romance, passion, and sex, are red: red lipstick, red hearts, and red roses, for example. In other words, red is a color that we subconsciously associate with seduction.

So, it’s about time you incorporate some red into your lingerie collection. Why? Read on to find out.

It complements any and every skin tone

Did you know that red is a universally flattering color? It’s true — it can work for any complexion. The key, of course, is finding the right shade to complement the undertones in your skin.

If you have fair skin, a blue-based shade, like a true ruby red, isn’t too harsh and will look stunning against your alabaster complexion. On the other hand, if you have olive skin, go for a vivid scarlet red or rich wine red. If you have warm, golden undertones in your skin, don’t shy away from orangey shades, like a brick red. On the other hand, those with medium skin and cool undertones may want to go with a scarlet or garnet red. Is your skin on the darker side? Lucky you — you can wear pretty much any shade of red and get away with it — though bright cherry and berry shades look especially striking.

It’s an exciting alternative to black

Take a look in your lingerie drawer, and notice the spectrum of colors. If you see a whole lot of black, white, and nude, it may be time to infuse a little excitement into your collection — and there’s hardly a better way to do that than with red.

Sure, black is a timeless option that works just as easily for date night or the office, depending on what you’re wearing over it. But if you feel like your collection is starting to look a little humdrum lately, you can bust the boredom by adding a piece of red, whether that means a red contour padded bra and matching low-rise red hipster panty or a flowy red babydoll with lace accents. Besides, you may be surprised by how versatile red can be. You don’t have to reserve those crimson pieces for special occasions — you can easily rock a red bra with a simple black T-shirt and jeans or a patterned casual dress. Just knowing it’s there underneath your laid-back outfit may put a self-assured smirk on your face.

It can give you a boost of confidence

Speaking of self-assurance, wearing red has been shown to have a positive impact on a person’s confidence. And it makes sense, given that in addition to being associated with love and lust, red is also linked to status and power. So it’s no surprise that a 2017 study conducted by German researchers found that wearing red can make you feel better about yourself. For the study, 180 college students wore either a red or blue shirt and then sat in front of a mirror to observe their reflections before completing a survey. As it turned out, the participants who wore red rated themselves higher in both attractiveness and sexual appeal than those who wore blue. Feel like you need a little boost? Then try rocking a red lace bra — and you just may walk a little taller.

It’s the perfect choice under white

When you’re wearing a white T-shirt, blouse, or tank, you may think a white or nude bra is the best option. After all, those neutral shades won’t show under a white top, right? While nude is a viable option, white is actually not the best choice, as it will contrast with your skin and stand out. And you might be surprised to know that a red bra actually works rather well under a white shirt. Why? Well, the way in which the color red absorbs light makes it blend in with your complexion, thus causing it to virtually disappear under white garments.

Pro tip: if you really want a red bra to look invisible under a white shirt, make sure to go with a true red, or one that’s deeper and errs on the side of burgundy. Avoid reds with a lot of pink or purple undertones, like fuchsia.
