where to buy swimsuits

A well-fitting, stylish swimsuit is a summer essential, no doubt about it. Whether you’ve got a vacation on deck with your SO, a regular poolside girl’s day planned, or are simply hoping to hit the beach with your family a few times, you definitely want to feel confident in what you’re wearing. You may have a couple bathing suits from last summer (or even farther back), but are they going to cut it? Or do you need a new swimsuit?

If you’re on the fence about whether it’s time to go shopping, here are some of the top signs you need to ditch your bathing suit and find a replacement:

It doesn’t fit perfectly

No question, fit is the number one most important factor. So try your swimsuit on and assess whether it hugs your body flawlessly.

Swimsuits will inevitably become increasingly stretched out over time due to wearing them and washing them. So take a look at the top and bottom and make sure it’s not sagging anywhere. After all, saggy material means the bathing suit won’t offer the support you need (not to mention it could translate to an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction).

Make sure you evaluate the bathing suit top carefully. Does the band feel snug? Are your breasts completely contained? It’s important that your swimsuit provides sufficient support. Especially if you’re large-busted, you may decide you want a swimsuit top that has separated cups and underwire.

Maybe you bought the bathing suit last summer, and you’ve experienced some weight changes since then. Just because the bathing suit has never been worn doesn’t mean you should keep it around. You deserve a swimsuit that fits your body perfectly.

It has seen better days

All that swimming in the ocean or pool, lying in the hot sun, and sweating can slowly wreak havoc on your swimsuit. Perhaps you notice the color is fading. Or, perhaps there are snags in the fabric from washing it too aggressively or sitting on an abrasive surface. Water, sunscreen, perspiration, and the sun can all cause elastic to deteriorate over time. And damage to the elastic on a swimsuit is particularly problematic. Not only does it impact the look of the swimsuit, but it also definitely won’t fit as well.

It’s not comfortable

Who wants to be pulling at or adjusting a swimsuit when they’re enjoying a beautiful summer day? No one. If you’re bathing suit is remotely uncomfortable, it’s time to toss it. That means if the underwire is digging into you at all, the straps are cutting into your shoulders, or the bottom hits at an awkward spot on your derriere, you’re in dire need of a new swimsuit. Fit obviously plays a huge role in comfort, but the issue could also be simply that the bathing suit isn’t the right style for your body type. Consider your shape when choosing a swimsuit style that will flatter your figure, showing off your assets and creating some aesthetic balance.

You’re just not feeling it

At the end of the day, if you aren’t psyched to put on a bathing suit, then it’s not worth keeping in your collection. So if you just can’t put your finger on why you don’t like it, that’s a good enough reason to replace it with a new one — even if it fits properly and it’s comfortable. It could be that your personal style has changed, or it could be that you’ve got your eye on a new trend. Either way, don’t feel obligated to wear it if you’re simply not feeling it.

We believe you should feel like your most fabulous self in a swimsuit — so if any of the aforementioned signs apply, go ahead and find a new bathing suit that will inspire you to strut out into the sunshine with pride.
