how to find the right bra

The right bra is something every woman is after. It’s the missing link in boosting your confidence and your comfort level. So often, you go bra shopping, and come home with a bra that you think is perfect. You realize it’s not so perfect after wearing a few times. But, you’ve already spent the money and worn it. You either accept that you’re stuck with it, or you try your luck again at finding the right bra.

Of course, finding the right bra depends on several things.  Let’s walk through the steps of finding the right bra for you.

1.  Have an idea of what you want.

The first step in finding the perfect bra is to have an idea of what you want. It’s great if you’re open to various bra styles, but it’s helpful to know what you’re after. Do you want to lift your bust? Do you want to add volume? Are you looking for something to minimize your bustline?

Having an idea of what you’re looking for in a bra will save you time and frustration while bra shopping. You’ll be able to only try on bras that can give you what you want.

2.  Get a bra fitting.

You should get a bra fitting before you start trying on bras. Many lingerie stores offer bra fittings at no cost – whether you buy a bra there or not. One of the store’s associates will measure your bust to determine your measurements. This omits the guesswork in finding the right bra size. You have your measurements, and you and the lingerie associate know exactly where to start. Getting a bra fitting is the only way to determine your exact bra size. And the right bra size is the one of greatest factors in finding the right bra for you.

3.  Try on various styles.

You know what you’re looking for in a bra, and you now have your size. The next step is to try on various bra styles. Let’s say you’re wanting a bra that will add volume to your bust line. There are lots of bra styles for that, including push-ups and demis. So, it’s best to try on multiple styles to see what you like best.

It’s also a good idea to try on bras at different stores. Brands design bras differently. A 34B in one brand may fit differently than a 34B in another brand. Test out bras from multiple brands to see what feels good and natural.

4.  Make sure the bra fits.

Do a quick check to ensure the bra truly fits before scurrying out of the fitting room. The cups should fit your breasts snugly, but your breast tissue shouldn’t spill out of the cups. Move around and make sure the cups remain in place. You should be able to wear the bra comfortably fastened on the first or second hook. The bra band and bra straps shouldn’t dig into your skin. The underwire shouldn’t feel like it’s poking into you. The underwire and bottom of the bra shouldn’t rest at all on your boobs. Instead, the bottom of the bra should rest on your ribcage. Your bra is a good fit if it passes all these little tests.

It’s important to allot yourself plenty of time – a few hours – when bra shopping. You want to ensure you’re not rushed when trying on bras. And you certainly don’t want to skip important steps because you’re in a hurry. Take your time, and you’ll come home satisfied every time.
