When was the last time you bought new bras? Depending on your budget, a new bra might feel more like a splurge than a regular purchase.

Often, the higher the quality of a bra, the more expensive it is. We all know that there is a lot that goes into the pricing of a piece of lingerie, but it can be incredibly frustrating when you fall in love with an expensive bra or wear a hard-to-find bra size that renders new bras out of your budget.

Unfortunately, bras aren’t designed to last forever. As such, we recommend refreshing your lingerie drawer every six months. By this point, your everyday bras will likely need to be replaced, repaired, or thrown out. Depending on how many bras you have in your lingerie wardrobe and how often you change your bra, your bras should last you at least six months (high-quality bras may last a year or more).

So how do you shop for lingerie guilt-free without overspending? Here’s how to work new lingerie into your budget:

Save a little each month

Try putting a small portion of your paychecks into a savings account dedicated to new clothes and lingerie. By putting money in a separate account, you’ll be less tempted to spend it day to day. Saving $20 or $30 per paycheck is a good start. After six months of saving, you should have around $120-$180 saved in your shopping account – enough for two or three new bras.

Another way to save money without really thinking about it? Try cutting back on daily purchases that aren’t necessities. For example, if coffee or makeup is your vice, consider making coffee a few days at home and playing with the makeup that you have for a month or two. The money that you would typically spend on those things could then be transferred into your shopping account for future use.

Be a savvy shopper

When you’re on a budget, sales are your best friend. Do you have a favorite local lingerie boutique? Ask them how often they have sales and if they have any promotions or discounts currently going on. Some stores offer ‘Buy one, get one’ promotions and gift with purchase promotions throughout the year.

If you’re wondering what the best time to shop for lingerie is, plan your shopping trips around January and July. Nordstrom, for example, has a big sale called the Anniversary Sale every July. This is the perfect time to stock up on new lingerie at a reduced price (and you’ll be shopping next season’s trends early which is a plus).

Shopping online has its perks too. Subscribing to your favorite store’s email newsletter and social media accounts can help to keep you updated on their sales and promotions so you never miss a good deal.

By saving a little throughout the year and shopping around for the best sales, it’s possible to shop guilt-free for bras and underwear and stay within your budget.
