buying bras when losing weight

Shopping for bras while losing weight is hard. First things first, you don’t want to spend a lot of money on bras since your bra size may change. But you can’t go braless in the meantime. So what do you do?

If you’re buying bras when losing weight, we recommend shopping for bras that fit. Wearing a bra that fits well gives you peace of mind and allows you to focus on other things. You won’t have to worry about your band moving or your cups gaping throughout the day. Instead, you’ll have the headspace to focus on your goals and celebrate your milestones along the way.

So how should you shop for bras when you’re losing weight? Read along for our top tips!

1.  Start with a bra fitting

You might think it’s not necessary to get a bra fitting whilst you’re losing weight, but that’s not the case.

Bra fittings are crucial – especially at the major milestones of your weight loss journey. A bra fitter can help you find bras that feel comfortable and keep you supported as your bra sizes changes. Plus, what could be better than treating yourself to a beautiful new bra or panty as you reach each of your weight loss goals? Definitely something to look forward to!

2.  Pay close attention to the details

With bras, the cut and fabrication are very important. Stretch mesh and stretch lace tend to be more forgiving and are often used in unlined wired bras and bralettes – making those two styles a good place to start.

You might also want to try a push-up bra with removable padding – just remove the padding inserts now and then add them back in as you lose weight.

For sports bras (and everyday bras), opt for a snug band and fasten it on the loosest hook. You want a bra that feels snug and supportive without causing any pain or discomfort. By starting the bra on the loosest hook, you’ll be able to tighten the band as you lose weight – which helps you get more out of your bras.

3.  Seek affordable styles

As you lose weight, your bra size will likely change as well. You might find that the bra size you wore two months ago no longer fits. While it’s tempting to splurge on beautiful lingerie, now is the time to seek out affordable, well-made bras that will last you the few months before your next bra fitting. And, if you’re shopping on a budget, set a budget for yourself before you get to the store and stick to it.

So how many bras should you buy? Depending on your lifestyle, you’ll likely need 2-3 everyday bras to rotate throughout the week, 1 bralette or lounge bra, and 2 sports bras. Skip the strapless bra for now – you can pick one up later if it’s not a style you wear often.

For panties, opts for sets or packs of panties as they tend to be less expensive than single pairs. Sales and panty promotions are good places to start.

4.  Shop the clearance rack

If you’ve always been nude and black kind of gal, now’s the time to try some of the fashion colors that you’ve being lusting after. The clearance rack is the perfect place to find a bargain if you’re open-minded about color and style options. We recommend checking out your local lingerie boutique first and if you’re still in need for more bras, head online and check out the deals there too. And be sure to sign up for the email newsletters for your favorite lingerie stores so you won’t miss any of their sales!

5.  Buy bras that fit you now

As you get closer and closer to your weight loss goals, you might be tempted to buy smaller bras thinking that your boobs will shrink into them, but that’s not the best idea. There’s no guarantee your bra size will change to that size during your weight loss journey. You might find that your band size changes but your cup size doesn’t or both change or they both don’t change at all. Weight loss affects every woman’s body differently – why not save the money you’d spend on a smaller bra and spend it on a bra that fits you right now instead?

6.  Most importantly, be kind to yourself

It might take some time to get used to your changing body. Weight loss can make anyone feel vulnerable and self-conscious, so try to be kind to yourself. Remember: You don’t have to be at your goal weight to buy yourself new lingerie. No matter what you weigh, you deserve beautiful lingerie that you feel good in. Your weight does not define you and neither does your bra size. So, buy the lingerie that you feel good in and celebrate every single milestone along the way!
