how to store bras

Your bras do a lot for you. Every day, they provide a proper base for your ensembles, making them look even more fabulous, while simultaneously offering much-needed support for your bustline all day to night. So it goes without saying that they deserve a little TLC when it comes to storing them.

Proper storage of your bras is important for several reasons. For one, the right strategies can prevent pesky creases, lumps, and wrinkles. Storing them correctly also ensures your bras won’t get bent out of shape somehow. Not to mention, when you smartly store your bras, it’ll be a lot simpler to find the one you’re looking for.

If you’re eager to protect your lingerie while also making your life a little easier, follow these foolproof guidelines:

Do:

Do choose a system

For example, you might separate them by color (and then lightest to darkest within each hue), or style (such as T-shirt bras, pushup bras, and convertible bras). It’s also a good idea to keep the ones you wear the most often toward the front of the drawer or rack. This way, when you’re specifically looking for a nude demi-cup bra, for example, you’ll spot it faster.

Do stand them up

If you’re storing molded or padded bras inside a drawer, be sure they’re standing up with the cups lined against each other to preserve their shape. Depending on how many you have, you can either store them free-standing or purchase a special drawer organizer to separate bras.

Do hang them on pretty hangers

If you have the room in your closet (or, alternatively, are short on drawer space in your dresser), hanging your bras is your best bet for avoiding wrinkles. You might consider hanging special occasion bras, for example, which may have more embellishments and luxurious materials you want to preserve. Clip hangers can leave dents in the fabric, so opt for standard triangle hangers or, better yet, flat padded hangers, instead. Seek out hangers with grooves for the straps whenever possible, so they’re less likely to fall off. You can save space (and create an aesthetically pleasing display) by stacking hangers one on top of the other so all your bras hang in a vertical row.

Do pair them up

Tucking any matching panties inside the cups of bras you store in drawers will help save you time when you’re getting ready.

Don’t:

Don’t try to pack too many in drawers

This can cause them to become misshapen.

Don’t invert or push cups to fit inside each other

Doing so can lead to puckering and dents in molded bras.

Don’t fold your bras in half

While it may be tempting to do this to save space, it’s another method that can wreak havoc on padding, molding, and underwire. That goes for sports bras, bralettes, and other non-molded bras too — if they’re unlined and wire-free, consider rolling them up instead to avoid wrinkles.

Don’t forget to secure any hardware

To avoid snags and other damage to the delicate fabrics on your bras, you always want to make sure any hook-and-eye or other kinds of closures are secure.

Don’t be afraid to get creative

A tie rack, belt organizer, or coat rack can easily be repurposed to hang bras in your closet. You can even install a tension rod and use shower curtain rings to hang your bras.

By taking these suggestions into account, you’ll not only reap the convenience benefits of a more organized lingerie collection, but you’ll also promote the longevity of all your favorite bras.
