Here’s How To Put On A Bra Without Over-Stretching The Band
Be honest: Do you hook your bra in the front and slide it around to the back? You’re not alone! Sometimes it’s easier to put a bra on this way, but did you know that hooking the bra in the front and sliding it around to the back can cause the band to stretch out much quicker than it should?
It’s true. Fastening your bra in the front can put unnecessary stress on the band and stretch the straps over time. Since straps can be only be tightened so much, this is a method that we definitely recommend avoiding as much as possible.
Sure, most of us have been hooking our bras the same way for as long as we can remember, but maybe it’s time to try a new method. Here are a few tips to keep in mind next time you’re putting on your favorite bra or trying out a new style!
Back closure bras
Chances are most of the bras in your lingerie wardrobe fasten in the back. Back closure bras provide a great deal of support and allow the wearer to tighten or loosen the fit of the band with a back hook and eye closure. Here’s how to put on a back closure bra:
First, put your arms into the straps and slide it on so the cups are over your boobs. Then, hook the bra in the back by connecting the hook and eye closure. Lastly, starting with the left side, hold the side of the left cup with your left hand and scoop your breast tissue into the center of the cup with your right hand. Repeat with your right side. This quick step will ensure that all of your breast tissue is inside the cups. You might also know this little insider trick as the scoop and swoop!
If you’re having trouble with this method, you may find it easier to hook the bra first at your waist in the back and then slide it up and on. Either method works just as well.

Front closure bras
Front closure bras are ideal for anyone with limited mobility because they hook in the front and only involve a small range of motion to get them on. Most racerback styles are front closure bras. Both our Matilda Padded Racerback Bra and Lynn Y-Back Front Closure Bra styles fasten in the front.
Here’s how to put on a front closure bra:
Slide your arms through the straps and pull the cups around toward the center front of your body. Using both hands, line up and join the left and right sides of the bra’s front closure (this is even easier if your bra has a magnetic closure) to fasten the bra. Then, scoop your breast tissue from the sides into the center of the cups. Voila!
Bralettes and bras without a hook and eye closure
If your bra doesn’t have any hooks or closures, chances are it’s a pullover style (a style that slides on over your head). Bralettes and sports bras are among the most popular pullover styles. These styles are easy to throw on when you’re in a rush and don’t have time to fuss over the fit of a bra.
