What’s The Trial And Error Method Of Bra Shopping?
Bra shopping isn’t typically something you look forward to. (Unless you know you have the wrong bra size and are excited to buy new bras.) Shopping for bras can be time-consuming and frustrating if you hate trying on clothes.
In an effort to make the sh1opping trip as quick as possible, I bet you’ve gone the trial and error method of bra shopping before. Not sure what I’m talking about? Keep reading to find out what this method entails and why we don’t recommend it.
What’s the trial and error method of bra shopping?
The trial and error method of bra shopping is exactly what it sounds like. You head straight to the racks and grab bras you think will fit. You try on bras and self-diagnose the issue when one doesn’t fit. Then, it’s back to the racks to find another size. The trial and error method is the least efficient way to bra shop.
Why is the trial and error method the wrong way to bra shop?
There are several issues with going the trial and effort route when bra shopping. Let’s talk through why we don’t recommend buying bras this way:
1. You guess your bra size.
The trial and error method of bra shopping doesn’t let you accurately determine your bra size. Knowing your true bra size is key to finding the perfect bra for you.
2. It wastes time.
Because you don’t know your bra size, the trial and error method can be lengthy. You spend more time trying to find a bra that fits instead of spending time finding a bra style you like.
3. You’ll likely buy the wrong size.
Even if a bra feels like it fits, it’s possible a different bra size would be fit better. Many times, you may purchase a bra using the trial and error method, only to realize it doesn’t fit as well as you thought it did when you get it home.
This is usually because you try on multiple ill-fitting bras in the fitting room. When one fits better than the rest, it feels like the one. But when you’re no longer comparing it to bras that clearly don’t fit, you realize it’s not a great fit either.
What’s the right way to bra shop?
The best way to bra shop is to start the shopping trip with a professional bra fitting. One of the lingerie store’s associates will measure your bust to determine the best cup and band size for you.
After the fitting, the lingerie associate will bring you various bra styles in that size for you to try. She may find that your bust is between sizes, and she’ll know exactly what tweaks to make to the sizing to get you in a good-fitting bra. Sometimes it requires going up a cup size and down a band size – or vice versa – to find the perfect fit. She can also help find your bra sister size if the store is out of your exact size.
Getting a bra fitting and having a lingerie professional in your corner saves you time and helps you buy the best bra the first time. However, if you prefer to browse on your own after the fitting, that’s perfectly fine. The most important thing here is to get a bra fitting so you know your size.
The next time you’re tempted to skip the bra fitting and go the trial and error method, don’t. Starting with a bra fitting is the most efficient way to bra shop. It’s the only way to determine your bra size and find a bra that truly fits.
