bra fitting

Have you ever had a bad bra fitting experience? We hope not. While we wish all bra fitters were trained the same, not all bra fittings are created equal. Each store determines how to train their staff on bra fitting. Typically, local lingerie boutiques have more control over the quality of bra fittings than major chain stores.

A bra fitting could turn sour for a few reasons: the bra fitter might not understand what you need, she might not be trained well or properly, or she might not have your size and try to sell you something on hand. All are valid reasons for feeling like your time was wasted, but they’re not a good reason to skip bra fittings entirely. There are certainly expert bra fitters out there (many of which at your local lingerie stores) that would be happy to fit you and help you find bras that make you feel supported and comfortable.

Worried your bra fitting is going in the wrong direction? Here’s how to turn it around and get out with what you need.

Speak up and ask questions

Do you feel like the bra isn’t fitting as well as the fitter says it is? Or maybe you hate the color or style you were given. By letting your bra fitter know how you feel immediately, she’ll be able to change course and pull you bras that you do like.

Did she get the size wrong? If she’s unsure of your size, she might ask you to try on a few bras to get the fit right. So, unless you were given a 34B and you normally wear a 36D, the bra fitter may have simply pulled the wrong size or converted the size wrong. Mistakes sometimes happen!

Ask to shop the floor with the fitter’s help

Maybe the bra fitter isn’t connecting with what you need. If the bra fitter did a great job determining your bra size but is bringing you bras that you just don’t like, ask if you can shop the sales floor with her or pull up a few pictures of bras you like online. By showing her what you’re looking for, she won’t have to guess what you’re interested in.

Ask for the size you think you need

Are you worried your bra fitter may be inexperienced? Don’t be afraid to ask for actually what you need. If you know how a brand fits and you know your size within that brand, ask the bra fitter if she can pull you the size you think you need. Then, use this guide to check the fit of the bra to make sure it fits.

If all else fails, try a different store

If the bra fitters at the store you visited aren’t able to help you or if they don’t have your size in stock, try a different store. That store might be not the best fit for your needs. For local lingerie boutiques in your area, check out our store locator here.

Fortunately, not all shopping experiences are nightmares. And, if you’re lucky, you’ll never experience one. But, every so often you might have an experience that is less than noteworthy. Before taking to Yelp or Facebook to leave a review, try reaching out to the store manager. If your bad experience was due to a poor bra fitting, the store manager may suggest coming back in to be re-fit or offer something else to make you happy.

Bra fitters want you to be happy with your shopping experience at the store, so give them feedback if you don’t have a good experience. It’ll help them improve and hopefully avoid providing the same experience to another customer in the future!
