what is the best bra for support

Old habits (and bras) are hard to kick. We’ve all got that old bra that was once a favorite, but we just can’t seem to part with. But, there are lots of reasons why you should toss an old bra, even if it was expensive and was once your go-to.

Buying a new bra is empowering. But, sometimes it takes getting rid of an old one to encourage you to replace it.

Here are five reasons to get rid of an old bra:

1.  It doesn’t fit like it once did.

If an old bra doesn’t fit like it originally did, it’s not you – it’s the bra. Bras become stretched with lots of wear. Your body stretches it, but it’s also exposed to elements that can stretch it. Sweat and body oils rub off onto the bra, and over the years, these products break down the material. Remember how amazing you felt when your bra fit well, and let that be your motivation to toss it.

2.  It’s damaged.

Damage to a bra comes in lots of forms. There could be stains, frayed materials or broken parts. Though some of these damages seem cosmetic, they’re usually a sign it’s time to toss your bra.

Frayed materials expose the bra’s elastic to water, sweat and oils. With direct contact to these elements, the elastic will stretch faster. Broken parts of the bra, such as unsewn straps or exposed underwire, prohibit the bra from doing its job well. All parts of the bra must be in tact for the bra to support, lift, enhance or minimize your bustline.

3.  It doesn’t boost your confidence anymore.

There are a number of reasons why you won’t feel great wearing an old bra. Perhaps it looks tired and shows signs of wear and tear. Maybe it’s no longer your size, whether that’s from a change in your bustline or aging of the bra. Every bra you wear should make you feel comfortable, empowered and confident. If it doesn’t, get rid of it.

4.  It doesn’t provide its original level of support.

A bra that’s old simply can’t provide the appropriate level of support. With every wear, it gets a little more worn out. A new bra has all new components, meaning it will hug you in all the right places while giving you the support you need. Even if you think an old bra is providing ample support, it’s likely not. Try on a brand new bra, and I promise you’ll notice a difference.

5.  You don’t wear it anymore.

Another reason to get rid of an old bra is because you don’t wear it anymore. This could be because it’s no longer your size or style. It could also be because you’ve bought more bras and no longer need the old one. It’s important to only have bras you love to wear in your lingerie drawer. This ensures you can grab any bra out of the drawer knowing it will make you feel beautiful.

When you decide to get rid of a bra, don’t be too quick to trash it. It’s possible your bra could be donated. Donated bras must be true to their size and gently worn. And before buying new bras, always get a professional bra fitting. You want to make sure your new bra is the best size and fit for you.
