pregnancy bra size change

From puberty to menopause and everywhere in between, your breasts will likely change a few times throughout your life.

If you’re like most women, you’ll probably wear a bra every day for much of your life. While you might prefer to go braless, we can’t stress the importance of wearing a proper-fitting bra enough when you do actually wear a bra. A bra fitting can help make sure you’re wearing the right bra size and help you feel confident in your lingerie.

Thinking your bra size may have changed recently? Here are five life events that can affect your bra size:

1.  Pregnancy

Pregnancy can have an impact on a woman’s breast size. Breast shape and size may change during and after pregnancy. Maternity bras are a great option to wear during pregnancy and nursing bras are often worn after if the woman plans on breastfeeding.

If you’ve recently become pregnant or had a baby (congrats!), you may want to get a proper fitting for new bras to make sure you’re comfortable and wearing the right bra size.

2.  Weight Loss

Does your bra feel too big? Weight loss could be the reason. With weight loss, you may notice that your current bras feel too big in the band. We recommend getting a bra fitting because it will help determine your new bra size. While you’re shopping, consider trying a bra in your bra sister size. If the cup fits fine, you may just need a smaller band size.  Keep in mind that any change in weight can affect a woman’s bra size – whether it’s related to weight loss or weight gain.

3.  Weight Gain

Just like weight loss, weight gain can also have an impact on your bra size. Each woman stores weight differently. If you’re noticing a difference in the way your bras are fitting, it might be a good idea to get a bra fitting. Keep in mind that any change in weight can affect a woman’s bra size – whether it’s related to weight loss or weight gain, so a bra fitting is always a great place to start.

4.  Menopause

Did you know that menopause can change your bra size? It’s true. Menopause may change the shape and size of your breasts. A change in hormone levels can also make them feel sore and tender. In fact, it’s not uncommon for your bra size to increase or decrease during perimenopause and menopause. A study from The Netherlands reported that 18.6% of the women in the study found they needed to buy a larger bra (compared to 1.7% who reported needing to buy a smaller bra size).

5.  Hormones

The hormones in your birth control might be responsible for a change in your bra size. With birth control, there is no guarantee that your bra size will change. It’s different for each woman. Some women don’t see a change in their breast size, while others might experience an increase of 1-2 cup sizes or more after starting birth control.

Many women experience changes in their breast size and shape throughout their lives. A change in breast size and shape is typically normal, but if you do not notice something that doesn’t feel or look right, it’s best to talk with your doctor.
