donate bras

There’s something magical about shopping at the start of a new season. While you’re looking for new pieces to freshen up your outfits, why not refresh your lingerie drawer too? Chances are you haven’t given it much thought since the first of the year (who else starts the new year off right with new bras?), so it’s probably time to give it more than just a once-over.

First on the list: Bras. Here are five bras you should get rid of ASAP:

1.  Bras that don’t fit

First things first, give yourself 15-20 minutes to clear out the bras that don’t fit. Why 15-20 minutes? Depending on how many bras you have, you’ll need time to try everything on before deciding if you want to keep, toss, or donate it. Be sure to try everything on in front of a mirror so you can check the fit and follow our guide here if you need a reminder on what a proper fitting bra looks like.

2.  Bras that are torn or stretched out

If a bra can’t be fixed, it’s time to throw it out. Bras with wrinkled cups, torn straps, broken hooks, and bent underwires all fall into this category. Why hold onto things that are no longer serving a useful purpose? You know you’re not going to wear a broken bra, so make get dressed a little easier and get rid of it!

3.  Bras that you’ll never wear again

There are some pieces that are worth keeping – like a luxurious bra and panty set or lingerie you wore for a special occasion. But we’re talking about the nursing bras you bought two years ago and the bralettes you still have but never actually wore two bra sizes ago. These are the bras that once served a purpose in your lingerie wardrobe but are no longer a part of your regular bra rotation. So unless you’re keeping them for sentimental reasons, it might be a good time to toss or donate.

4.  Bras that make you feel bad about your body

Are you wearing bras that do your figure a disservice? You deserve better. Lingerie isn’t designed to make you feel bad about your body. In fact, it’s just the opposite. You should feel comfortable, empowered, and supported in your lingerie. If your bras (and panties) are riding up, digging in, and creating unflattering lines under your clothes, do yourself a favor and throw them away and find better options.

5.  Bras that you’ve had since high school

Are you holding onto bras that you’ve had since high school? It’s time to let them go. Don’t be surprised if your bra size has changed since you were a teenager. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight gain, weight loss, hormones, and menopause can all affect breast size. It’s not uncommon to wear different bra sizes throughout your life. Don’t be afraid to get rid of bras that you no longer wear – it’s actually quite cathartic! Remind yourself that you’re making room for beautiful, new pieces that you’ll look forward to wearing. We can’t think of anything better than that!
