underwire bra pain

Women don’t wear bras for the heck of it. You wear them to feel confident and comfortable in your clothes. Wearing a beautiful bra that makes you feel beautiful is like having a secret tool in your confidence treasure chest. And, bras can enhance parts of your body too. Sure, they enhance your breasts by lifting them or giving them a rounder shape. But, bras can also enhance your figure. Needless to say, if your bra doesn’t make you feel better about yourself when you put it on, there’s a problem.

If you don’t like the way you feel in your bra, you’ve come to the right place.

Let’s diagnose the issue with your bra by asking the following five questions:

Is the bra not your style?

This is the first and easiest question to ask yourself when you don’t like your bra. It’s possible that a bra you loved a year ago no longer fits your personal style. Perhaps the bra is a style that you don’t feel comfortable in anymore. Or maybe the bra feels too plain or too decorative.

Well-maintained bras last longer. But, just because a bra is in good condition doesn’t mean you must keep wearing it. (You can always donate lightly worn bras so they go to good use.) If it’s a different style bra you’d like, first figure out what you don’t like about your current bra. Tell the sales associate these thoughts when you go bra shopping so she can help find the best style bra for you.

Is the bra worn out?

A bra that is showing signs of wear and tear won’t make you feel confident. (And, boosting your confidence is half a bra’s purpose!) If your bra has stains, snags or tears, it could be the reason you don’t like wearing it. It’s also possible your bra’s elastic has stretched after years of wearing it. A stretched-out bra can’t do its job of supporting your breasts. Buying a pretty, new bra will make you love wearing one again.

Is the bra painful?

There are many bra myths out there, such as all bras are painful. However, no bra should be painful. A good fitting bra will not cause you any discomfort. In fact, you should barely notice a bra that truly fits. If you experience back, shoulder or neck pain from your bra, or even chest pain, you’re wearing the wrong bra size. Get a bra fitting at your local lingerie store to ensure your next bra is the right size and won’t cause you discomfort.

Have you lost or gained weight?

Any fluctuation in weight can alter your bra size. At a previous bra fitting, I told the associate I’d lost about seven pounds. After she fitted me, I realized I needed a smaller band size and a bigger cup size. What?! If you’ve lost or gained even just a few pounds, it could be the reason why you don’t love how you look in your bra.

Is the bra the wrong size?

Many women don’t like their bras because they are wearing the wrong bra size without realizing it. There are telltale signs that you’re wearing the wrong bra size. If you’re bra is too big, you might experience a gap between your breast and the cup; a band that rides up on your back; or loose straps. If the bra is too small, your body may hurt; your boobs may spill over the tops and side of the cups; or the center panel of the bra may not sit on your chest.

Wearing the wrong bra size will make you hate your bra every time. If you think you could be wearing the wrong bra size, opt for a bra fitting as soon as possible.

Your bra can make or break your self-confidence. And, you deserve to feel amazing every time you put your bra on. If you don’t love how your bra fits you, it’s not your body’s fault, it’s the bra’s. Find a lingerie store near you for a free bra fitting, so you can be matched with your perfect bra.
