how should a sports bra fit

Is it time for a new sports bra? Whether you’re a complete gym bunny or just a casual jogger, having the right bra for you is vital. If you’re a full-busted lady, this is even more important. So, where should you start? Here are some things that the ideal sports bra should definitely have.

1.  It should be comfortable

First things first, you need to make sure that the bra you choose is comfortable. That’s really a baseline requirement here. When you try on the sports bra, you need to take account of how it feels. You will be wearing this particular bra when you’re feeling at your most active. If it’s not cozy and comfortable, you’re going to end up with a real problem.

2.  But also stylish too!

Now, we’re not saying the gym has to be a fashion show… It doesn’t. It’s about fitness. However, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with looking your best while you get your sweat on. Long gone are the days when a sports bra was merely a functional piece of your wardrobe. Oh no, now there are loads of different styles from which to choose and loads of patterns that you may want to rock too. Dare to be creative here!

3.  It should have quality material

It should really go without saying that your bra needs to have the highest quality material. Buying a new sports bra is really a type of investment. You need to make sure that you’re getting what you pay for here. When looking at the various options out there, be certain to touch and feel the material. Doing so will help you figure out whether the fabric is worth it.

4.  But needs to be breathable

Of course, the fabric doesn’t only need to be high-quality. No, it also needs to be breathable too. The last thing you want is to be sweating away and having material that makes the whole thing a load worse. Nightmare. Make sure that the fabric is light enough that it will allow your skin to breath while you’re working out. If you don’t get this simple thing right, you will find that the bra is uncomfortable. It’s that simple.

5.  A sturdy, thick band is a must

Now, let’s take a moment to consider the support you need. If you’ve got larger breasts, this is certain to be one of your biggest considerations. You don’t want to make the mistake of buying a bra that doesn’t keep you firmly in place. One of the ways that you can ensure that this is the case is by looking for a sturdy, thick band. Believe it or not, much of the support comes from this stretch of material.

6.  As well as thick straps too

Of course, you don’t want to overlook the straps! Having some thick material here could make all the difference. It could also help to get a racerback style piece, which will ultimately offer you some more support as well. When you’re checking out the sports bra options out there, take some extra care over this aspect of the piece. You should check out how thick the straps are and how they are attached to the main part of the bra.

7.  The cups should fit well

Before you even think about getting a new sports bra, you absolutely have to make sure that you get measured. That should really go without saying! However, that’s not all you need to keep in mind. When you try on a bra, you should also make sure that the cups fit as well as possible too. Often enough different styles offer a different type of fit. You need things to be snug but not too tight in the cup area.

8.  And your breast tissue shouldn’t spill out

It’s safe to say that if your breasts are spilling over the top of the bra, it’s probably not the right one for you. That much is obvious. But wait, there’s another test you could do as well that’s super easy. When you try the bra on, raise your arms above your head. If you find that you ‘pop out’ below the bra, you’ve got the wrong size. Trying this is essential if you’re trying to find the right sports bra as movement is everything.

9.  It should be right for the sport

Did you know that there are actually different types of sports bra out there? It’s true. There’s a real difference between a low, medium, and high impact sports bra. Which you ultimately choose to get depends mostly on the type of sport that you want to do. Should you be taking part in something that’s ‘low impact’ like yoga or pilates, you need a bra that matches. Equally, if you plan to do high-level aerobics, you will need a bra that works for that too. Consider this when you choose your bra.

Every single woman out there needs to own at least one good sports bra. There’s no way of getting out of that one. However, don’t make the mistake of believing that finding the right one has to be a chore. So long as you follow the advice here and look for all of the above, you should have no problem.
